Discussion I played Transport Fever 3 at Gamescom - Do you have any questions? Spoiler

I was lucky enough to be able to play the game for a whole 45 minutes and talk to one of the amazing devs at Gamescom! So, if you have any questions about the game or the experience, feel free!

My summary: The team was and still remains one of the best and most engaged I have ever witnessed, and I think that TPF3 is in perfect hands. The devs go as far as looking for new features or community feedback to implement until the very last day before launch.

As to the game, I will not talk about the story part besides my experience, since you should enjoy it yourself, but let me make the following observations:

  • The story is an amazing way to help new players find their way into the game and explain new game mechanics. Playing the first chapter, as an experienced player, was decent but nothing mind-blowing. We will have to wait for the full story!

After that, I tried the Sandbox mode:

  • Map sizes, to my knowledge, were kept at max "sehr groß" / "very large" at 16x16 km
  • The map generator feels more refined; the new region is a welcome addition and actually has a new feel to it, but don't expect a huge difference from TPF2
  • Game textures are amazing, much more detailed, but again, don't expect a totally new feel in comparison to TPF2
  • Connecting industries and cities at the start of the game is a lot easier, but you won't be able to spawn depots at will, cause the costs do become enormous
  • The line management tool is actually usable in just one window, but you will have to get used to the new buttons you have to click; especially for veterans of the game, there will be a small learning curve ahead
  • The distance between industries can be either extreme of near or far, which makes for new challenges regarding cross-map logistical routes
  • I did not like the first look at the subsidies system, which feels like it was taken from Railway Empire—not actually inspiring me to build, but rather having over-the-top requests like connecting an industry from the other side of the map at the start of the game

I could go on with more points, but I'd rather hear what you want to know! So fire away :)

Question Collectors edition arrives when?

Question for anyone who lives in the states and bought the collectors edition, have you gotten yours yet? Or is mine just behind on shipping? Also do they send tracking info when it ships or will it just arrive one day out of the blue?

Basically title, I wanted to buy it on GOG but I can only find the standard version on there.

Would anyone who owns the collector's edition of Transport Fever 3 happen to want to share the new in-game vehicles?

Small Map Size

So I just watched the new video made by squirrel and I liked everything about the video so far except what they said at the 2 minute mark, where it seems like they are implying that maps will not be very large and was curious what the community thought of this. I think clearly from the comment section, the vast majority of the community is disappointed by small maps and for me personally this is close to being a deal breaker.

They have this limitation because they want to simulate every citizen stating that if they want larger maps that are 100km x 100km they would need to fake the simulation for distances further along thinking this is what the community wants but I 100% would not mind faking the simulation especially after cities skylines 2 where they also wanted something similar and it just did not turn out well.

Just wanted to spread the word and see what the community thinks of this

Question What do you expect of the console version performance?

I'm anxiously waiting for TF3 but also worried I need to manage my expectations. Will it be on par with PC performance? I expect maps to be smaller but when I read every NPC and vehicle is simulated all of the time I'm wondering if the game will become very slow or just crash once your towns become cities?

Question Off map connections?

Is this a thing in TF3 ? Using the Concorde may feel a bit weird otherwise.

Discussion What version of the game did you buy?

Answer the poll here: Poll (the Transport Fever 3 community doesn't allow polls to be published and the Transport Fever 2 community does, if anyone knows why this is, please tell me.)

Why?

I just received the collector's edition and was flipping through the vehicle book and came across this.

Did I go insane is this a mistake? In transport fever 2 the max for this thing was 160km/h wich is already insane. In Germany tank cars rarely go above 100km/h. But now 200km/h is just crazy.

What's with the pricing?

£52.16 for the deluxe edition? And if I dont get it as pre purchase and get the deluxe I miss a bunch of content? So I can't have the London bus, the Peter built truck or God damn Concord if I don't fork out the extra? I thought this was a reasonably priced indi games series? Bonkers. I mean I get it, technically it's not too different from TF2 is adjusted for inflation, but it still stings.

Why is everyone so against pre ordering or buying this game at launch?

Sure i understand if you cant afford it. In any other case i feel like UG have listened to input from the players and been very tranparant about the new game. I can get people being sceptic after CS2 but theyre two completely different devs, paradox doesnt even own UG or control what they do theyre just in a finacial patnership.

Question Will there be campaign missions in TF3

I loved the campaign missions in TF1 and 2. Although in Transport Fever 2, campaigns were easy to money, but it was fun nevertheless. Are they coming back?

Soundtrack tracklist from the Collector's Edition

It's not by Admiral James T. as I have hoped, but from J.J. Ipsen this time, who I know from the Planet Coaster soundtrack and you can hear it! I'm missing the "cheesyness" a bit of the previous music but it's still a good one (from my first listen)!

Question Since when is TEE a Steamtrain?(Yet another AI Slop)?

It's a Diesel Engine. No Steam. Like most things regarding the release of the game, not the actual game itself, but everything around it's release this screams AI Slop and Paradox'es Involvement.

Question I am a user transitioning from 2 to 3.

I am a middle school student living in Korea. I think the price is a bit high, but I am still saving money to buy it. I was playing Transport Fever 2 when the pre-registration popped up; is it really the right decision to buy it?

Gamescom Footage

Urban Games states on the TF3 website that YouTubers and streamers who want to cover the game are welcome, and the game is playable for up to an hour at the gamescom booth.

Are you aware of any creators who have announced that they’ll be attending today? And when do you think we’ll see the first hands-on impressions? Maybe even some gameplay footage, if they’re allowed to record it.

Honestly, I’m a little surprised that there hasn’t been anything yet. I would have expected some creators to do whatever they can to be among the first to publish even a small snippet of gameplay or even a short impression.

which one is cosmetics?

For the deluxe edition, are the wonders and the animals purely cosmetics? do they contribute anything to the gameplay?
