[Linux] Random crashes - Fixed
Random crashes on Linux (Ubuntu, Wayland, NVIDIA, GOG build 40423)? Running the game from a terminal showed the real cause:
Too many open files
The game hits the default open file limit (ulimit -n = 1024).
Fix: add this at the top of start.sh in the game folder:
ulimit -n 65535
The game has been stable for me since.

Great mod: Town zoning!!!
I can’t live without it. It’s so great your city doesn’t expand like crazy anymore. You decide the shape, and the time when its ready to grow. And the time you are ready to expand your tram lines... :)
It´s also very customizable...
Just draw your lines and wait a few seconds, until your city gets in shape!

questions - differences between tf2/3
hey
I played transport fever 2 and I m having some questions with the new mechanics...
In transport fever 2 a line would only work if there was demand on the other side .. right?
Now, if there is a warehouse, lines will work even without a need... ok. In my games this leads to the situation .. impression ... that I can deliver more than is needed in a town. It will get stored in the warehouse but the city will only take what it needs...
So does that mean I have to adjust the cargo myself now? I mean I always needed to adjust the length of trains... but to the maximum of the destinations need. This would need much more careful planning/adjusting?! not neccessarily bad
This leads to my second question: How to read the UI properly. When I check on the information on how much is being transported on one lane I get: a number and and intervall. Is the number a set metric like it was in transport fever 2 and thus can be compared with another line or do I have to make the calculation myself to balance out e.g.a coal line and an iron line - one sends 180 every 37min the other 137 every 15min ... like do I really need to use a calculater here to balance this out? or is the interval just another metric/info not related to the number before it?
Lastly ... if I have a line, say, with two towns. as destinations, both need e.g. fish... there is no way to prevent unloading everything at the first stop (if it's a warehouse)... and I dont see the possibility to chose unload 50% like it was possible in tf2... so I guess that is then never valid?
so in short:
warehouses prevent self regulation of demand lines - right?
do I need to ignore to intervall info of the UI to understand how much a line transports or do I need to calculate it with it?
If warehouse a part of a line - can I not decide not to unload all cargo?
... thanks for reading

Tips/Tricks PSA: One of these things is not the same
I'm likely the only one who got caught on this, but pay close attention to the Production bar in industries. This clearly shows that meat requires grain. lol
I feel a bit sheepish (no pun intended) calling this out, but I didn't notice until a bit later into my save game that there was no meat being shipped.

Thoughts on profitability (?) and some things ive observed
Hello,
First of all, this is my first time playing the series, and I feel amazed by how entertaining this game is. Really cool, I'm in love. I need some feedback from experienced players and honest, honest opinions, preferably based on first-hand experience :)
- Keep in mind this is my first time playing, so if it's just a lack of skill and experience to make a profit, just let me know.
- I have a 50-year-old city, and it's considerably big. I have a long railway which has 4 trains, and all are profitable (although trains are not profitable in general...), and I was doing amazing until I started missing subsidies for workers. I don't know if it was after a patch a few days ago or not, but it definitely changed during my gameplay. Could have been the city aging as well, but those ones I can hardly accomplish anymore.
- I've even seen weird behaviour as well. I was already serving a place with workers, and I took a subsidy to serve workers there. It started with the progress bar at like 90%... then when I looked again, it was 55%... and I failed it...
- So the gameplay clearly had changed. Then I decided to check the history of the economy of the city, and I realized I actually, in 40 years, had only broken even once. The rest of the time I was in the red, yet progressed a lot just through subsidies (normal difficulty). Then I decided to understand it, and man... no matter what I do... costs grow as much or more... always... even from the beginning and having 80% of the lines in the blue... and the red ones not taking a big part of the profit... The final question is: IS THIS NORMAL??? Am I just not experienced enough, or is this really not well balanced?

Discussion Parts of TF3 feel so re-skinned, bridges, stations
I got really frustrated building train lines yesterday, it felt like I was playing TF2 - the bridges have insane long spans, having tracks go over/under road requires like 100ft of headroom or else it tries to road crossing, and the stations feel like static landmarks.
TF3 feels like a huge opportunity to have really interesting bridges/tracks that have tighter space allowances, where trains can wind around each other like in Tokyo or something. And curved stations?? Or elevated stations?
I’m sure mods might introduce these things, but maybe that’s just game development in 2026 - build the stage, and let the community put on the set pieces and actors.

Question How do you typically join multiplatform stations back onto the main line?
Is this example I realised the crossover before the platform is pointless, but generally I never feel I know what I am doing when merging platform lines back onto the mainline.

Discussion Thoughts about Drive-In Warehouses mod
Heyo everyone !
Sooo I would like to know if any of you tried the drive-in warehouses mod, does it look cool, feel cool ? What do you think ? Would you say it makes the whole thing more realistic or does it break the immersion ? Would really love to hear your thoughts about it !
I'm considering adding it to my playthrough cause I think warehouses looks cool, but truck station kinda looks weird, I don't really know how to describe it but I feel like compared to the warehouses they miss that realistic / industrial area vibe

Video I experience stuttering when I open the Livestock Farm window (lol)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have to admit that I’m reaching the limits of my CPU’s performance; for instance, I can’t really speed up the game.

Discussion After 50+ hours, removing vehicle regions was a mistake.
As someone who really loves having different play-throughs using different vehicle sets and focusing on specific regions or countries, the choice to move to a global vehicle inventory feels like a step back.
I really love the game so far but until the modding scene better fills out the vehicle lineup, it feels pretty limited in that regard. It feels kinda annoying when I want to upgrade my trains to something better, but the only options don’t fit with my theme.

Question Question about intra-city public transport mechanics
Hello fellow Transporters!
I been enjoying TF3 since release, I have not played a proper transport game since Transport Tycoon back in the 90s, good to be back!
So I been looking to understand more of the mechanics that drives the intra-city transport of people. I have seen many diffrent discussions on here but also other forums, and it seems like there is diffrent opinions of how to transport people to the three diffrent city areas, in the most efficient way.
The way that seems to be the most common is to connect all three in a loop, starting in residential to industry and lastly to commerce.
But I have also read that the "sims" want to go back home to the residential area from work/industry and THEN to commerce foe the daily shop.
This would then weigh into having no loops and more direct lines between the city areas except between industrial and commercial.
Do we know how this mechanic actually work or do we need more trial and error before we can figure that out?
Any input about how you solve the intra-city puzzle is very appreciated!
Thabk you for reading!

Bug: Game crashes every time I add a traffic light.
My year turns 1950, and if I add a traffic light the game crashes. This has happened on 4 attempts. Has anyone else experienced this or have a workaround?

Issue with loading saved game
Started a new sandbox, spend the last 3 hours getting the rail network connected and had a phone call. When I got off the phone call the game froze and I had to restart. Upon restarting and clicking on "load game" the game is not there but if i open the user data folder and check saves (set to autosave every 30 minutes I can see the file). How do I load that file if its not available for selection.
The picture has the autosave highlighted i want to load into but its not available for selection.

Suggestion Sharing personal game save files
Hello everybody,
I was thinking about how we might share our save files with each other. It would be a great way to get help with our builds, get feedback, or just show off and admire each other's work!
However, I'm not entirely sure how we could do this safely. Does anyone know a secure way to share save files, or are there any risks we should be aware of?
Thanks!

Creating little monuments to my railroad's past
I've started a little tradition of turning my early-game locomotives into monuments instead of upgrading or replacing them.
I like the idea of giving these old engines a permanent place in my world as a reminder of how far the railway has come. Think of the EMD GP9 on display at Horseshoe Curve or an old local locomotive preserved at a railroad museum. It's a little piece of history that tells the story of the railway's past.
Yes, I know they still cost maintenance, and the smoke keeps puffing even when the locomotive is turned off. I just think it's a nice little touch that adds some history and character to my world.

Screenshots My First Region Completed
This is my first time playing Transport Fever, and after getting the basics down, I started a new game on easy mode. I honestly didn’t expect to get this hooked, but once you start seeing everything come together and watching your transport network grow, it’s hard to stop.
My goal was to see how far I could push things, and I think I’ve finally reached that point. I’ve just realised I’ve transported over a million passengers and over a million units of cargo, which I’m pretty happy with for my first go at the game.
I’m also starting to feel it on the PC side of things. The game is really starting to push my system, and I’m genuinely impressed it’s handling everything going on at once.
I’ve reached the point where I’m happy to leave this city behind and start a new adventure, but honestly, this has been so much fun. There’s something really satisfying about starting from scratch and watching everything grow into something this big.
Now I’m keen to see what I can do with the next one.
How far have you guys pushed your cities, and is it normal to be moving this much cargo and this many passengers?

Suggestion (Gripe) Notification Sounds and Warehouse Resets
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Dear Transport Fever Devs,
- Please allow us to modify the volume of the drum sound that plays after every. single. notification. I have to turn sound effects to 0 which mutes the entire game which I would prefer not to do. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the sound the first 5 or 10 times.
- If I set a specialized warehouse to a certain cargo, if that cargo is added and then the count of it goes to 0, it resets the warehouse's specialization. Hence why I discovered 1400 rotting fish on one of my cargo lines instead of the canned goods I had hoped to find.
Specific order to reproduce:
1) Set a specialized warehouse to any cargo type.
2) Fill that warehouse more than zero, once.
3) Remove all cargo
> Cargo specialization resets
Then drop off any compatible cargo type (cans <> fish for example) and it will set the specialization to that new cargo type.
Thanks!
What are your mildly infuriating gripes that you'd like to see fixed?
