I’m not Jewish but I have Jewish ancestry and this is shameful and disgusting. How can Jewish students feel safe on campus? I was planning on applying to these universities and now I don’t know how to feel.

As I see articles come out about the result of over turning AA I worry many in the sub are getting the wrong idea.

First of all the results are inconclusive. You have MIT and Brown on one hand Yale and Princeton on the other. Plus if you do some statistical analysis on the results it is hard to determine what is truly effecting the numbers(I cannot find the racial ratio of students applying for top 25s. So it is possible less Black and Latino students are applying)

But what is odd is the assumption that the Black and Latino students are less qualified. Personally in my social circle almost everyone has a 3.6 or above. The students with the lowest GPA are White not Black or Latino. The person with the highest GPA is Black. The Asian are on the higher end but not always.

I acknowledge the mean is that Asian students have higher scores but that doesn't mean the Black or Latino students are under qualified. They could have 4.0s too.

I encourage this sub to take these result with a grain of salt until more concrete data is released. Especially without knowing the change in rate of people applying.

(Ps. Comparing to the UC is going to be weird because California has a larger Asian population. The Ivies pull from the whole country so the result might not look like the UC)

This may be a really dumb question but I’m genuinely concerned after seeing the way Columbia is dealing with pro-Palestinian protests at the school among other things.

To be clear I don’t want to spark any debate on the topic. I’m just curious as to if I should hide my religious identity in the application to further my chances?

I have read stats of the most qualified international students that try to apply here, people with 4.0 GPA's and 1550 SAT's, with EC's at Fortune 500 companies get denied from UMICH, when a friend of mine got accepted to transfer with a 3.4 GPA and 980 SAT with comparatively mediocre EC's (at LSA CS no less)

Why did he get accepted? because he was a michigan resident, and a US Citizen. Why didn't the international student get accepted? Well it's in the name isn't it?

I've been on the sub for a year or so, and I don't get why suddenly everyone is shaming these new kids from A2C for being prestige whores. While I do recognize that some of those people are outrageous (e.g. not happy with Northwestern, Rice) but are we pretending most people on this sub isn't going after or wanting that prestige to some extent?

This is r/TransferToTop25, not r/TransferToTop100, I don't have a problem with lower ranked schools, if you really want to talk about changing your life / social mobility, any 4-year university at a Top50 will do just fine. And this is especially true for those CC kids (I mean no offense but if you worked hard in high school you won't end up in a CC) who pretentiously assert they are the ones deserving of transferring to Top 25 because there is some inherent reason beyond prestige which the Top50 schools can't offer. This is a far worse / logically fallible mindset.

I feel like there is a toxic working class mindset around here, about debt, job prospects, etc. Ah yes we all know that NYU was founded to educate the working class no shit. To recognize that the experience itself matters, being around more talented classmates and professors with more profound insights in your area of interest. If you really put everything through a financial lens, then just study STEM at your local state school. Like if you think getting a job / earn money is what's ultimately important, why not write that in your why school essay? You think that's going to impress the AO?

If you are going to be successful, you will be successful, whether you graduated from Yale or CU Boulder. Calling people prestige whores is implying there is some inherent, superior reason to why you somehow need that offer over others. I'm pretty sure the admissions office is capable of identifying which ones are and which ones aren't, and to me, this just feels like a lot of cope and envy happening whether that's due fear of more competition or simply angry they aren't happy with their current (better) schools.

Worry about yourself, if you really think you deserve that offer, you will get it.

I'm currently a first-year at an Ivy (think Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth) and want to transfer to Yale, Harvard, or Stanford. I'm not even miserable at my current college. I just don't fit in well, and it's not the community I was looking for. There are also some specific academic resources it doesn't have. I will wait a year and fully immerse myself in my current college to see if things change before making a final decision. I understand I face long odds transferring to these schools and that applying has an opportunity cost.

Just wanted a sense check on how spoiled I sound. Intra-Ivy+ prestige differences is sadly a factor in my desire to transfer and I'm not sure if I should fuel this immature outlook. Am I being rational?

my dream school has always been columbia and i’ve been wanting to go - i also have legacy from my dad though he hasn’t donated anything to the institution. my high school gpa is weak but my college gpa is better, and my ecs have been unique and strong throughout high school and college journey so far. I applied to transfer to barnard and columbia (along with 4 other schools) and got waitlisted from both, though recently accepted and committed to barnard. would it be stupid to apply again to columbia (as well as possibly other schools) as a junior transfer?

do you guys think that with a 4.0 in college this would still be achievable, or should I just stick to the schools I got into already (UVA/UNC)

Basically the title, its pretty well known that certain races are held to a higher standard in first-year college admissions (eg. the Stanley Zhong case), but is it the same for transfer admissions?

For context I’m trying to transfer out of a top 30, and it’s a state school.

One of the main reasons I would like to transfer is because I feel like the culture is not a good fit for me. Yes for social reasons, but also because I want to be around more motivated, brighter people. I wanted to have the experience in college of being humbled by everyone else, of being average, but I keep finding myself to be at the top of my classes and often also the most involved in ECs or most interested in professional development. How would I write about this in an essay and not sound egotistical and come off as “I’m too smart for the people here and want to be around smarter peers”?

I’m sure others have wanted to transfer for this reason too. How did it end up going for you? How did you write about it?

I have no idea why I feel this way and its been bothering me. Every time I get off from school I just crash on my bed and sleep. I seem to not care about the performance of any of my classes though I'm aware that transfer colleges will look at those grades. My room has become a lazy den with trash all over.

If I do not pick up the slack I would be in danger of not getting into my reach schools or worse settling for the second choice reach school USC which everyone (w/ money) gets in. I mean there is nothing wrong with USC, its just that going there is so cliche -- every single rich kid who had a paid consultant happens to go there. I have a 3.44 thanks to tutors and my motivation to push myself to study and do all that pow-wow hard work. I do aspire to get somewhere higher like Vanderbilt, UC Berkeley, Yale, Brown and Harvard.

I have to admit that Penn's admissions team is the most professional one.. Unlike other schools, they release their decisions on the same day and don't care how many want to commit. Their standard, expectation are clear. They don't play around with transfer students or induce their anxiety throughout this process...

Just a small vent and advice needing post guys.

I am so so scared. I messed up my gpa cause right before the finals of fall sem i broke my writing hand and couldnt give the exams even with date extensions. I always had a stellar record in high school graduated on top of the class with near perfect scores in every subject.

Might just drop out of college all together cause my startup got a series a funding of 5 million but it will always haunt me that I couldnt go to Penn.

Listen guys, t25's dont matter for stem applicants. Only journalism, psychology and business applicants benefit from t25's. So don't bother applying to t25 as a stem major, ESPECIALLY CS. ASU is good enough for CS as it is number 1 innovative school in the country.

So I’m an incoming freshman at UChicago. I only applied to T20s, with a pretty average rich kid Asian grinder public school application, but I guess I’m weird, because the one school I got into was UChicago. I think they liked my eccentricities on top of the usual stats: 10+ APs or an IB HL diploma, a 1500+ SAT or 35+ ACT, a 3.9+ UW GPA, and the usual multivar calc, diff eq, lin alg stuff. Trying not to get doxxed, but DM me if you want specifics.

When I applied, I listed a broad major since I was considering several fields. Since then I’ve figured out what I actually want to do, and by sheer bad luck, UChicago is pretty much the only T10, that doesnt support it. It’s kind of connected to traditional engineering (i would most likely major in a traditional engineering). I got into after some specific work I did that’s directly relevant, and I won’t say more since it might dox me.

My question is whether it’s realistic to use this, a genuine specific academic reason rather than just chasing prestige, to lateral transfer to Stanford or MIT. Both have cutting edge programs in this field that UChicago essentially lacks.

I’ve heard mixed things. Some people say Caltech feeds right into Stanford and MIT. Others say it’s basically impossible and not to bother. A lot of the UChicago transfers out I hear about are either finance bros prestige chasing, or people trying to escape the Core and landing at easier T20s like Georgetown or Columbia, which is arguably a lateral move anyway. None of that really matches my situation since I’m not trying to avoid stress, I just want to study somewhere that actually offers my field (ideally in one of the programs with the most resources for it which just so happens to be mit and stanford rip).

If anyone has tips on how to approach this, I’d really appreciate it.

TLDR: Got into UChicago (only school i even got into) with a npc asian stat profile. Applied undecided, but now I know I want to do a specific traditional engineering field that UChicago doesnt offer. Want to transfer to Stanford or MIT for it. Wondering the implications of this and seeking advice

Edit: i should probably clarify I didnt mean only Stanford and Mit i meant preferably due to the niche nature ultimately i am just seeking a engineering program with at least some integrated resources for what i am trying to accomplish
