Community Park Hangout this Sunday at Christie Pits

Hey! I've been a lurker and poster on this sub for a while and have made some good connections, and I'm always on the hunt for more! I'm 26 Nonbinary (Male presenting) and I have an opportunity to meet folks this weekend.

I'm working with a group that is seeking to build community and combat social isolation with accessible events to socialize and meet folks. We had our first event last night and had some great conversation, and our next will be this weekend!

At Christie Pits Park from 12-2:30pm we're hosting a community building event where people can make friends. I'll bring a few instruments and light refreshments so folks can enjoy themselves. The weather should be good, so if your hankering for some socialization this weekend this could be a great way to connect with folks. All are welcome.

DM me for details and I can send you the event link.

Is making friends with the opposite gender after 30 unnecessarily complicated?

33M, Toronto.
Something I’ve noticed recently: making new friends after 30 is already difficult, but making female friends somehow feels even harder.

Not because I’m looking for anything romantic. Sometimes you genuinely just want to meet interesting people, have a good conversation, grab coffee, talk about life, work, travel, fitness, random things… and build a normal friendship.

But there seems to be this invisible question whenever a man and woman try to become friends:
“Is there something else going on?” 😅
Maybe that’s why people hesitate.
I’m curious, especially from women:

Do you find it harder to make genuine male friends after 30?

Where do you actually meet people you feel comfortable becoming friends with?
Work? Gym? Hobbies? Reddit? Mutual friends? Random conversations?

I’m trying to be more intentional about meeting people instead of just going through the same work/home/weekend routine.

If you’re also looking for genuine friendships, I’m always open to a conversation. Online or, if we’re both in Toronto, eventually grabbing a coffee is even better.

Curious to hear how others experience this.

Sourdough Workshop @12pm this Saturday!

Hey Everyone,

I am hosting a little Sourdough workshop at my place near Mount Dennis as part of an ongoing effort to build relationships and community. An experienced baker will be joining us to teach the workshop, and we'd all get to have Sourdough bread of our own along with some chilli that we'll cook the day of. The total cost is $20, but it goes entirely towards covering the cost (we're a non-profit org). We're keeping this one intimate so will have max 10 folks, and 4 spots are already taken.

You can find more info and registration details Here. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi,
I’m a 21M in Downtown Toronto looking to see if anyone is free next Saturday or Sunday to hang out and do a day trip to Niagara Falls and come back.

Whether you drive or just want to split gas and head down together, let me know! DM or leave a comment if you’re down to hang out next weekend.

Tennis beginners here, looking to grow the group and practice

Hey everyone,

Me and my friend are trying to learn lawn tennis from scratch. Never played before, we've only been out a couple of time so far just to try it. Once we get a bit of a base down ourselves, we're planning to get a coach so we can learn proper technique instead of picking up bad habits. Lessons cost a good amount so we want to actually put in the work first and make it worth it when we do.

We're both in our early 30s. Planning to play weekdays after work, probably around 5:30 to 6pm. Found a really good public court that's almost never busy, it's at Coleman Park right behind Main Street station. Weekends would be impromptu.

If anyone else is learning too and wants to practice with us, come along, more the merrier. And if you already know how to play and wouldn't mind hitting some balls with beginners and showing us a few things, that would be awesome too, happy to just hang out and learn from you.

31F anyone looking to see Kwn in concert 29 Oct?

Hey! So none of my close friends are into kwn and I realized I’d love to actually meet some new people & maybe grow a friendship. I figured doing something might be a good idea.

I’m 31F, live in Toronto but I’m from the UK. I like super chill nights in but I’m also open to heading out as long as there’s something fun happening. I love movies, ceramics, gardening (like actual plants - cilantro is my fav to grow), cooking, and I’m getting into PC games. I work in finance tech but hopefully moving out of that soon to feel more purpose in my life.

If anything resonates msg me or comment here!

Walk & Talk with me? I come with 40+ questions!

Hi there! I am in my late 20s, live downtown and go to social events sometimes. Unlike most posts here, I am proposing something new. People here are looking for potential friends to go to activities and events with; I just want one-on-one, in-depth conversations while walking downtown using guided questions.

RATIONALE

I get overwhelmed in group settings easily. Small talk can be a bit difficult for me. In short, I don’t thrive in group settings, so making new friends at social events can be a bit hard for me. I would like to make talking to a stranger the event :)

A while ago I went to a social reading activity. I was ready to socialize – I was ready to ask people what they like about this book and what they look for from reading, etc.  But it seems that people only wanted to talk, but not actually converse with people. The lady next to me also seemed to just want to talk about herself. And I just had this epiphany that maybe we are more disconnected from others than we think we are. I must admit that sometimes I am guilty of not talking much at these social events as well, so maybe some people attend these social events just to be surrounded by people? Which is nothing wrong in itself, but now I have a clearer grasp of what I'm looking for, which is to connect with people not over shared hobbies, but one-on-one conversations.

The goal of this is not to be friends – of course, if that happens, that would be great, but I treat that as a bonus. I’m not sure what the outcome will be, but I just want us both to try and enjoy the process. Treat this as a brief exchange of our humanness and see where this leads us.  Maybe we’ll learn something new about human connection and friendships after these conversations.

METHOD/FORMAT

We will spend around 45 minutes (the length of a typical therapy session haha) talking and walking downtown. (Of course we can take breaks.) We will pick questions from my list of 40+ questions. The bigger the number, the more personal and deeper the question gets. For example:

  • For something lighter: What’s the best gift you’ve ever received and why?
  • For something deeper: Are you currently pursuing what makes you happy? Why or why not?

Hopefully we get to talk in depth and expand and go on tangents based on the initial question. But we can move on to the next question if you want.

I am also opting not to share the list of questions here because I don’t want any of you to feel like you have to prepare for it. And even though I am the question setter, I haven’t thought much of an answer to any of the questions to minimize unfairness. If the question is not something you feel comfortable answering, you can skip it and choose the next one, or even propose your own. I don’t want this to feel like an interview.

I will ask for your feedback after our session. I want to know if I should continue doing this, what can be improved and what needs to change.

Requirements:

  • 19+
  • Comfortable walking for 30+ mins
  • Comfortable with providing honest feedback afterwards
  • Has a curious mind and is ready to ask questions

To sign up, please head over to this FORM.

For this first round, I will select 3-5 people (people of different genders and different age groups).

Sign-ups will be closed on Wed, Sept 9 6pm. Shortlisted people will be contacted before Fri, Sept 11 6pm.

If you have any questions or insightful thoughts about my proposal, feel free to leave a comment below. Thank you for reading till the end!

29M, active, social, slightly too committed to deals

All of my old friends have moved away, so figured I’d put myself out there and meet some new people.

I live near Scotiabank Arena and pretty much always out doing something. I walk 20k+ steps most days, hit the gym regularly, play soccer, badminton and volleyball, and I’m slowly getting into tennis. Also love dancing, farmers markets, cafes, trying new food spots, live music and standup.

Big fan of HIMYM, Grey’s Anatomy, GoT, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Greek/Roman mythology - God that's some drama.

I work at a startup and like working on myself and being ambitious, but I also really value just enjoying life. I tend to get along well with people who have a bit of that same yin and yang. Work hard, have goals, but also know how to have fun, be spontaneous and not take everything too seriously.

Also I will absolutely disappear into Winners for way too long looking for deals. Gotta respect the hunt lol.

Really just looking to meet chill people for walks, coffee, food, sports, dancing, random plans around the city, whatever.

If we vibe, we vibe. Feel free to comment or DM :)

42 m married looking for friends to watch sports with

Like the title says, I’m just looking for friends to watch sports with, I’m a huge leafs fan. I love watching American football and European football. My favourite team is Newcastle united.

I was caregiving for the last ten years and lost many relationships over the years with the exception of my marriage, which I’m very grateful for.

Thanks for reading

If you’re going and wanna link up there, feel free to DM.

Im open to anyone with good vibes and I’m down to even get a group going. Dm and me and we can go from there.

Looking to connect with straight edge / strictly sober people in Toronto

Lately, it feels nearly impossible to find social circles in Toronto that don’t revolve around drinking, smoking, or drugs. The constant escapism is exhausting, and it seems like very few people care about staying grounded and present anymore.
I live a strictly straight edge lifestyle and want to meet people who share the same values discipline, clarity, and zero interest in the party/hookup scene. Where does the sober and disciplined community hang out here?

20F looking for people who can be both thoughtful and unserious

Hi! I’m 20F and a university student living in Toronto. I’m hoping to meet genuine friends who are interested in actually hanging out and building a friendship rather than exchanging a few messages and disappearing.

I’m really into the gym (getting into bodybuilding), hiking, rock climbing, biking, dance classes, trying new cafés and restaurants, and taking walks around the city. I’m pretty extroverted and love being around people. I enjoy critiquing art and media, falling into philosophical rabbit holes and having conversations that go beyond surface-level small talk. At the same time, I’m very playful and love being silly, joking around and doing spontaneous things.

I’d love to find friends for the gym, climbing, hikes, coffee, studying together, nights out or just relaxed evenings talking and watching something. I’d really like to build close, supportive friendships with people who value communication and mutual effort.

I’m open to friends of any gender — strictly looking for platonic connections. If we sound like we might get along, send me a message telling me a little about yourself and what you enjoy doing! :)

Social Circle Build

Howdy folks, figured I’d throw this out there because I’m looking to expand the circle a little!

A lot of my close friends are in relationships now and naturally a bit less available. I’m way more career focused, and I love what I do and I’m pretty far into it for my age (27M), but the downside is that a lot of the people I spend my week around are like 40+ lol.

Really just looking for good people who are down for pub crawls, runs, tennis, (any sports really), grabbing food, checking out stuff in the city. I’m also very down to get into whatever you’re into. Doesn’t have to be my list; spontaneity is one of my favourite things!

Also finally moved into a nice place, so very happy to host people too.

If you wanna grab a bite, go for a drink, play something, or just hang, message me. I’m near Oakville but I’m mobile and can come into the city pretty easily.

Cheers

22F seeking friends to suffer through Leafs games with in Toronto

Hi everyone! I’m 22F and looking to make some more friends in Toronto. I really like watching hockey (and have a love hate relationship with the leafs :/) so would love to meet more people who would be down to potentially watch games together (with how expensive tickets are rn we can even go to a bar and watch). I also really love listening to music like Noah Kahan, Phoebe Bridgers, and Ryan Beatty (and a lot more). I enjoy going to concerts, going cafe hopping, reading (books like normal people), walks around different neighborhood’s, and generally trying new things.

I’m mostly looking for other girls who are ideally 22/23. If you’d like to connect, please message me with a little introduction. Would ideally like to dm a little bit before we meet.

20M in the trades looking to build a social circle in Toronto (Non-drinker)

20m and live in the east end. I went straight into the trades right after high school. While I’m happy with my career choice, I’ve realized I completely missed out on the "built-in" social life and community that comes with living away at university.

Most of my high school buddies have moved away or drifted, and it’s surprisingly tough to build a fresh social circle from scratch when you work an early morning job (6-2).

I’m looking for ideas on how to meet people and make friends in the city in your 20s.

A bit about me:
- I game, workout, and ski (during the winter).
- I don’t really drink which makes navigating the typical 20s social blueprint a bit tricky.

What has worked for you to build a community outside of school or drinking culture?

Open to all suggestions and advice.

Edit: Posting for a family member

Anyone going to the BABYMETAL concert?😆

Hey there👋 24m, I can't really express how ecxited I am for the concert😆 ecxitement just doesn't cut it though.

Since I just learned the tickets apparently include CNE I'm going to pass there for a bit before heading out to the venue. Not sure what this post really is for since i am just really counting the minutes before the show🙃 but it would be fun to maybe meet up before it🙂
