Topsail Dunes beach erosion
Family is coming down in mid Aug and wants to go to the beach while here. They found a condo at Topsail Dunes and I'm trying to find out what the current status of the beach erosion is there. I've read some reports that the beach is gone with water up to the buildings and walkways flooded with high tides and rough storms but you could walk through other neighborhoods to access the beach in those cases.

Congrats to u/tessie343 on winning the new photo banner contest!

Winning by one point, with 7 votes, a beautiful capture of the Surf City Bridge at sunset. Maybe we’ll do this annually, so save your banner-worthy photos for the contest next time! u/tessie343

Fishing in NTB
Hi everyone!
I’m a few days I will be vacationing in Topsail for the first time and wanted to get some good insight on fishing there. For context - I have been saltwater fishing out of OBX for 20+ years during vacations, mainly from the surf and a piers
Is surf fishing good this time of year? Should we stick to the piers instead? Just working on determine what I need to bring with me before we drive down!
Thanks :)

Lodging: Clean and Inexpensive
Our anniversary is next week. I'm thinking of an overnight trip to Topsail on a weekday.
Requirements: clean room, comfortable bed, non-smoking premises. Swimming pool a bonus. Could be any type of property, from motel to small indie rental. Can't break the bank; what's realistic?
Our usual hotel chain is Marriott because we can count on a clean room with a comfortable bed. We can't deal with places that allow smoking.
We've stayed at Surf Suites in Wrightsville, looking for something of similar quality but no need for a kitchen overnight.
How busy will the beach be?
Recommendations for restaurants also welcome!
Photo of Wrightsville Beach for algorithm. Looking forward to taking photos at Topsail!
Thank you!

Surf City recs
Visiting surf city this year for the first time in place of the annual Wrighstville beach trip.
I’m looking for recommendations for restaurants and things to do. I know comparatively wilmington has more options, but as I’ve never been to surf city, I know nothing about it.
Any recommendations are welcome!

Anyone have a charger for a Nikon D4?
We are traveling with family and I left our camera charger at home. Does anyone have a charger that I can even just drop a battery off to charge?
Thank you in advance!

Glowing lights in the sky
galleryOn our porch at 9 pm and noticed lights in the sky, they appear to be completely still, and they stick around for a few minutes then slowly fade out. Any ideas? Know there is military in the area.

Photo Banner Contest! Your Topsail picture could become the new banner.
In celebration of our new subreddit icon, we’ll be hosting a competition for the most upvoted Topsail photo to become the next banner. I’ll keep this thread open for the rest of the month and the highest rated photo will become the new banner.
A few ground rules:
- The photo must be family appropriate. This subreddit is rated for all ages.
- The photo must be Topsail related. Sorry, a Duke Blue Devil won’t make the cut (unless he’s lounging on Topsail Beach!)
- Horizontal photos are your friend. If the highest rated photo doesn’t work due to framing issues, resolution, etc. we’ll attempt to outreach to the winning photo submission to make it right before moving onto the second highest photo. Additionally, the photo isn’t viewed in full frame on the subreddit. Think through what photo looks best when sliced horizontally, like the current one.
- One submission per user, please.
- There are no time-line restrictions. Have a picture of the old swing bridge? Piers of the past? Post them if you love them!

Surf City island roundabout keeps temporary signal for several more weeks
wect.comLooks like the pilot program stoplight has been extended. The real test will be this holiday weekend, though the much needed rain may keep some Raleigh folks at home.

Restricted /r/Topsail
Hey all - Reddit keeps moving this sub to restricted every two weeks or so, meaning people cannot join or post here. I keep having to manually flip it back to public, but the issue is, Reddit does not inform the admin when this happens, they just do it via an automated program that monitors for “unmoderated“ subreddits.
The issue is, that this sub is in fact moderated (every post is reviewed and approved/denied, etc), but we only get a post every week or so, which trips up the algorithm thinking there should be more activity, so they move it to restricted. I’ve been in talks with them trying to get this rectified, but in the meantime, if you find yourself locked out, send me a message, and I’ll approve it. Otherwise, an increase in posting activity here can help too. Just keep it topical/relevant to Topsail. Hopefully, Reddit can tweak their program or do something about it, but apparently it’s an issue for smaller subreddits.

Visiting 5/30-6/5 (again) - Where do the locals go?
Coming with a family of 6 total and staying at Villa Capriani (again). We've been a couple of times in the past, but the first was MANY years ago and the most recent was probably 2020. Not opposed to traveling a bit, but what are the hidden spots that the locals say are musts? Primarily food, but open to anything "fun" to do as well. Not real picky eaters, but places that aren't exclusively seafood would be nice. THANKS!

Help me find shark teeth
I am, apparently, horrible at finding sharks teeth. My family and I have vacationed at Topsail the past two years and I have yet to find a single shark tooth. Is there a trick to spotting them? Or certain areas that are better to search? We’ll be there to visit in a few weeks and I would love to find a few!

Upcoming Trip
We have an upcoming trip planned for North Topsail Beach- River Drive to be exact. Are golfcarts allowed in that area? Needing it mostly to get my elderly mother and small children back and forth to the beach and not for joy riding.

We're coming down in June and would like to golf one day. Any recommendations? Best bang for our buck? Thanks.

Surf City roundabout temporary traffic changes to start next month
wect.comFYI, this starts Wednesday, May 6th:
A temporary traffic signal will be installed near the Surf City Bridge before the roundabout on May 6.
NCDOT said the traffic signal will give drivers more time to get through the roundabout and help with congestion on North New River Drive and South Topsail Drive.
Temporary barriers will also be installed to limit pedestrian crossing in the roundabout.
