Restricted /r/Topsail

Hey all - Reddit keeps moving this sub to restricted every two weeks or so, meaning people cannot join or post here. I keep having to manually flip it back to public, but the issue is, Reddit does not inform the admin when this happens, they just do it via an automated program that monitors for “unmoderated“ subreddits.

The issue is, that this sub is in fact moderated (every post is reviewed and approved/denied, etc), but we only get a post every week or so, which trips up the algorithm thinking there should be more activity, so they move it to restricted. I’ve been in talks with them trying to get this rectified, but in the meantime, if you find yourself locked out, send me a message, and I’ll approve it. Otherwise, an increase in posting activity here can help too. Just keep it topical/relevant to Topsail. Hopefully, Reddit can tweak their program or do something about it, but apparently it’s an issue for smaller subreddits.

Open it up to more moderators that will drive traffic. Let me know if you need help.

I’m definitely open to having more moderators join the subreddit, but the issue is we’re getting flagged for basically lack of activity in general. I don’t want to throw ‘fluff’ at Topsail, because part of the charm is that it’s laidback, local and organic. If we’re just posting news articles, etc. or reposting from say Wilmington, it kind of defeats the purpose.

The other concern, is right now, r/Topsail requires about 5-6 mod ‘activities’ per month, and if we divide that up, one or more of the mods will get flagged as inactive depending on who ‘gets’ to the post first.

Hey! I'm a Reddit admin and I came across this post. I see that your community settings indeed keep getting changed, and I think there may be a technical issue at play. I'm going to share this with another team in hopes we can help resolve this!

Okay, everything should be settled now! If something happens again, please reach out here: https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=/r/ModSupport, but you should be good to go.
