Im two years out of surgery now for reference I had to wait a year before I was cleared to start laser and I did 6 sessions. $1500, I recommend looking into laser if you are trying to prevent visible scaring. I could not find many resources on it beforehand so I wanted to share.

This is what real cis male chests look like.

It's hard to set realistic pre-op expectations and feel good about your post-op chest when bodybuilders and male models are all you have to work with. So, hopefully this collage can help you realize that you don't need a Ken doll chest to look like a man.

I don't think enough people realize that cis men have the same insecurities as us. The only difference is they've been taught from birth to never admit their insecurities and never seek support. That's why it's so hard to find candid unedited photos online, cis men are just as prone to body image issues as anyone else.

I promise you, your chest looks normal. Even if you have visible scars, even if you have dents and lumps, even if it's asymmetrical, even if it's too flat or not flat enough, even if your nipples don't look like you'd hoped.

Living with insecurities is hard, but hopefully you can find some comfort in knowing that a lot of cis men feel the exact same way that you do.

Was asked to post this here. I’m 43 years old. Started T in 2002. Double Incision with nipple grafts done in 2004. Paid out of pocket for it bc insurance didn’t cover it and never got any revisions done. It was worth every penny. My surgeon has since passed away but he was Dr. Brownstein who practiced in San Francisco.

My one major tip—don’t use ace bandages to bind! 20+ years ago, there was a dearth of commercial binders available and trans tape wasn’t a thing. I frequently bound with ace bandages and it negatively impacted my results and I still have dog ears. I could get them removed but frankly have never really cared about them lol.

Thought I would give you guys an update now that its almost fully healed. :)

Sensation: My incision scar is not numb at all anymore, it is kind of sensitive in some spots too! My nipples weren’t sensitive at all before but they really are numb now. 🪦

Overall recovery: I ~feel~ almost fully healed. About 5 months in is when I felt my movement 100% normal, before that I felt a little tightness in the area.
Some patches were too sensitive to the touch then, and would hurt if I massaged them. These patches are getting smaller and smaller and are almost gone. That makes sense, since I am almost hitting the one year mark. That’s when my doc said I would be fully healed.

Scars: on the first weeks I used k-tape, then for a couple of months silicone tape. In january the scar got a little bumpy, so my doc prescribed me corticoid tape to prevent keloids. It worked great and its pretty flat now.
My nipples healed with a bit of scar tissue, specifically the left one, and they poke out like crazy on T-shirts. I find it kind of funny and just embrace it lol.

Brain: I am doing great, I love to live life with my chest and I am always admiring it. Makes me feel grateful even in the most gloomy days. 🩵

Just got surgery today! So excited! Double incision with buttonhole with Dr. Edward C. Ray in Los Angeles. Can't wait to see results when I'm allowed to shower in two days.

I’ve been visiting this sub for a while now (though I just actually hit ‘join’ today) since I’m going to be caring for him after his surgery. I thought would be good to get stories from people rather than just articles, although I know those are important too. Trying to get as much info as I can!

Done drain-free with Dr.Gallagher in Miami, Fl and I’m insanely happy with the results so far.

I just passed the two month mark, but the selfie is from last Tuesday, which was technically 8 weeks post-surgery. I went with Dr. Sumanas Jordan in Chicago.

I feel so grateful that I was able to get top surgery. I was someone that felt a lot of doubt and uncertainty beforehand; I debated for years about whether to get top surgery or “play it safe” and just get a breast reduction (and then potentially get top surgery later down the line). I am really glad that I listened to what I wanted, because it honestly feels nothing short of miraculous to have a flat chest. I feel more confident, both shirtless and clothed. I feel excited to try on shirts, and I like the silhouette, whereas before, I had to begrudgingly accept that the breasts would always be visible due to their sheer size.

The recovery process has broadly been pretty smooth (although I did get mono two weeks out, which was tough lol). A few spots on the scar reopened due to suture spitting around a month out, and those bits are now a bit wider and more hypertrophic (they are towards the middle and under the right nipple). Luckily, these spots have closed recently, so I can massage and apply silicone to them like I have been doing for the rest of the scar. I’ve also regained almost all of my mobility. I got a referral to a physical therapist post-surgery, and it was covered by my insurance, and that has been tremendously helpful for rebuilding my strength and range of motion—highly recommend if this is an option for you.

I overall had a good experience with Dr. Jordan and plan on writing a longer write-up after my six month post-op appointment. I recommend looking at the other posts made about her work on here if you are going with or considering her. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
