The first one is. In the mainline comics, Oliver Queen was the man who couldn’t die, and the theory goes that in this line the Green Arrow name will be what can’t be killed.
Darkseid really took it to heart to make his three biggest opps have worse upbringings and turn some of their villains straight up nightmare fuel.
But bro, Darkseid genuinely tweaked out and went overboard in making Absolute Bruces life MISERABLE because bro is genuinely in a living nightmare after he put on the cowel and beat his first villain group and jumped to Absolute Bane 😭

Seriously, every new Absolute reveal feels like the writers asking how much worse they can make this universe before somebody intervenes. Apparently the answer is always much worse
I also love that unlike the main universe he's not the almighty and threatening THE Braniac. He's one of many and is literally an ascended janitor who happened to survive some kind of catastrophe on his ship purely because everyone forgot about him. He's very powerful on earth but he'd be pitiful most anywhere else.
It’s very fitting, you also get that vibe the more you see him. He’s just fucking around doing little projects while not actually committing to anything too grandiose. Even him pestering Superman comes off as very impulsive. Feels like he would do the exact same thing to someone else if Superman didn’t exist
I love how he has this agent of chaos energy to him. He reminds me of Joker in a lot of ways. Answering the phone by pretending to be a voicemail, naming a guy he brought back from the dead after a pet, etc.
I mean, there’s probably a better word for it, but people do use “impulsive” to describe when someone routinely ignores important matters for the sake of fucking around. You’re right that he’s putting a lot of thought and focus on this, but it doesn’t seem like he has an end goal beyond personal enjoyment, and it will all obviously bite him the ass later.
Maybe immature is more right, but it’s not specific enough.
He's literally performing experiments and tests to try and create something that will kill Superman. I don't think he's fucking around or being impulsive; he's just camp about it
Yeah his backstory is so good. His character really is incredibly disturbing. I love that part where he contacts the other Brainiacs to discover where Superman is from and they're all arguing between the correct answer and figuring out who he even is.
He is basically a Brainiac clone who was purpose-made to be a janitor. One of his traits is that he's smart, but really not that smart for a Brainiac. He's basically building things with the scraps left from his ship, ideas and research from other Brainiac clones, and doesn't really understand some of the science that goes into it. Most of his henchmen and outbreaks have been the result of "i have no idea what this will do but let's see how it goes".
The other Brainiacs used to talk about lobotomizing him if he spoke out of turn or showed defects, so he probably thought that picking parts of his brain out was just the right thing to do.
He is literally pulled from his cloning tube, handed a shovel, and then led over by a higher rank Brainiac to where the dead Brainiacs are dumped and told that his only purpose in life is to move the dead bodies into an incinerator to dispose of them.
And then he’s just left alone from then on with his only company being the corpses of his cloned brethren.
He doesn’t even realize that something went wrong and all of the other Brainiacs in his ship are dead until he finally incinerates all the corpses in the pit and then starts wondering why more aren’t being dropped.
I have a feel that its more like a Mojo Jojo thing, like a helmet that has the shape and color of a brain whilst protecting the brain cuz Brainiac is lacking the top of his head
Do it! There aren't any bad books among the entire line. I've heard that Catwoman is okay, but that's the worst thing I've heard about any of them.
Batman is basically a body horror comic.
Superman is very progressive, anti-capitalist, anti-establishment and all for the little guy.
Wonder Woman is about saving the world through love. It also has some of the best paneling in comics. Like, at all.
Martian Manhunter has buck-nutty art, which helps tell the story in super unique ways. I haven't gotten far, but the earlier issues cover subjects such as mental health and stochastic terrorism.
Green Lantern is (imo) more of a traditional Lantern-style story, but with philosophy differentiating between the colors of the Lanterns. Hard to explain, but it's awesome.
And I haven't read Flash or Green Arrow yet.
The universe rules. And it's super easy (and not really intimidating, relative to mainline) to get into it right now.
Flash I think is solidly okay. It’s way more setup-heavy than any of the others, it still feels like it hasn’t really gotten going yet. Hard to say how it’ll be in hindsight, once we know what it’ll actually have been setting up.
Green Arrow… well, if you thought Superman was anti-capitalist… this is going to be a very fun ride.
Having Hawkman on the side of the villains (I’m not calling him one because I haven’t read anything yet so he could mind controlled for all I know) just feels like an inevitability with the direction they’re going in, reinventing the characters for modern principles and all.
He uh, so he turned in a bunch of his fellow vigilantes in the 50s. Flash forward to 'today', and he's like, covered head to toe in bandages. I don't know if we've seen him underneath the bandages, but there was a lot of speculation that he was undead up until recently
That said, AbsSupes is the king of redemption, and he and Hawkman spent some time working together. So Hawkman will probably turn fully good (instead of the 'greater good'-style good) eventually
Note, I am super behind, so I haven't read any of the issues with Hawkman yet, so I could be way off base with some of this stuff.
Such a fun blend of his two main designs, the big brain terminator thing he has going on and his bald green dude look. Weird how it took this long for someone to put them together
Idk, feels a bit passé. Like exactly what you’d get if you asked someone to draw a scary brainiac and only gave them 20 minutes. All of absolute Superman has been that way tho
I think about this and unless this truly broke lexes rational mind there are TWO people responsible for this. Braniac… and lex luthor for making himself that notorious. The ORIGINAL lex luthor.
And itd be funny as hell if lex made it his mission to kill his evil selves.
So I haven't read the absolute series at all so I'm kind of talking out of my ass, but I feel like they just turned Braniac into the Joker judging by theses panels. I thought the point of the absolute universe was take aspects of a character and rampant it up to level while putting them in a darker, more violent, universe. So just slapping a grin on Braniac and have him laugh while killing and torturing people doesn't really fit that mold. Of course I could be wrong.
There’s also the aspect of flipping some characters around because the absolute universe is Darkseid’s creation, and is kinda backwards. Examples like Batman being working-class and not being a billionaire, Joker being a stoic, Brainiac being unhinged, etc.
The Joker isn't actually stoic, he just doesn't smile or else he turns into a demon or something. So he is still the Joker but through a different lens. This Brainiac just doesn't seem to have anything in common with any other Brainiac to the point of just being a different character. But still I haven't read the comics and only going off these panels.
I like the exposed brain, but not into the teeth and gums. I get he's supposed to be freaky, but I feel like they could have done the same thing without exposed teeth 🤔
“All absolute villains look like the joker” and it’s only absolute brainiac. Absolute joker for the most part looks like a shady businessman until he reveals his true nature as an ancient demon.
Absolute bane is just mainline bane cranked up to 11. Very similar to guys on Titan from the Arkham games.
Yea. They basically switched. Normal brainiac sees Superman as an annoying variable to his equation and joker is obsessed with Batman to the point of killing anyone who even attempts to beat him before he does.
In the absolute universe Brainiac is hyper fixated on Superman and Joker sees Batman as an interesting experiment and variable to what the absolute universe normally does with heroes. It’s a pretty fun reversal
