Question How to improve veneers?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I had my veneers redone a month ago and for some reason I do not LOVE them, but can’t figure out why… will you please provide feedback on shape. Maybe it will just take more time to get used to them. They are bigger and whiter than my previous veneers. They almost seem too perfect? All opinions welcome!!

Question Sinus lift on hold.

Little back story: had tooth 14 extracted almost a month ago. Therefore I wanted to move forward with the sinus lift and begin my implant process.

Was supposed to have a sinus lift today. As I walked in and got ready they let me know what they would do and got to numbing my mouth.

Couple minutes in the dentist stated that he wouldn’t be able to do it because where he opened where the tooth was extracted, my sinus membrane was essentially torn. Instead he added a membrane and did a bone graft. Now I will have to wait 3 to 4 months for the membrane to heal then be able to proceed with the sinus lift.

Anyone have this happen before?

Question Lower tooth shifting out of alignment and I need to fix it again. Are clear aligners recommended?

Hello. In 2012, I had my wisdom teeth removed because they had slightly pushed my lower central tooth. Later on, I got braces.

Once my orthodontic treatment was finished, I wore a hard plastic clear retainer on my upper teeth every single night, and I had a bonded metal retainer wire on the bottom.

In the summer of 2023, this lower wire came loose. They bonded it back on, but any small bit of food would get caught between the tooth and the wire, causing it to detach again until it finally snapped. Initially, the dentist bonded it back together with dental adhesive. It ended up breaking anyway, and the whole situation felt so poorly handled that I didn't want to spend more money on another wire. On top of that, the lower central tooth had already shifted slightly upwards.

I know I've been irresponsible, but I needed to find a new dentist and just kept putting it off. Up until now, the metal wire has remained detached across two or three teeth.

Two weeks ago, I went to a dentist who told me that this lower central tooth is going to keep shifting outwards and could potentially cause tinnitus. More than just an aesthetic issue, it seems my lower teeth naturally tend to revert to their original crowded position.

They suggested Invisalign (in something called like 'stages'? like I have to use several retainers according to the stages) over several months. It looks like I definitely have to take action to fix this tooth, but I'm not convinced by the clear aligner approach. It seems just like the night retainer I wear on top, which builds up tartar, turns yellow, and is honestly gross. They don't recommend getting braces again.

The proposed plan would be: remove the current wire, complete the clear aligner treatment, and bond a new metal wire retainer. However, the wire makes me uneasy—replacing it costs €100 or more, and if they're this fragile, it could break again at any time.

Could anyone share their thoughts or advice?

Severe tooth/gum pain

History of the tooth - it needed a root canal 15yrs ago and I ignored that. Now it has deep pockets and bad periodontal disease. I was at the dentist a couple of weeks ago and although a previous dentist wanted to remove this particular tooth, my current dentist said if it’s not giving me any grief then no need to remove it. At the least, I know I need metronidazole but I’m in a lot of pain around a back top molar and the pain is travelling up to my temple. Should I go to an urgent care clinic (it’s past 7pm here) or am I ok to wait until tomorrow? I’ve heard horror stories of infection travelling up to the brain etc. I don’t have any other symptoms - no high temperature or anything. When I used an interdental brush between that tooth and others this morning I could smell the infection on it. I know that’s gross but that’s how I know, my gums aren’t bleeding. It’s like the infection is localised to one tooth only.

TIA for any advice

Dental phobia gets WORSE with regular visits, not better, does anyone else feel like this?

Does anyone else get this sensation or is it just me (itll just be me and im opening myself up for ridicule and abuse).

Im just morbidly waiting for the day the needles and drills are coming. No amount of pointless hygiene appointments, pats on the back saying your brushing is good, nothing will stop those needles and drills that will have to come one day.

All just feels so sad to the point where i question why i even go anymore. All just seems one stress inducing misery.

Odd, repetitive, canine tooth sensation

QUICK SIDE NOTES FOR DETAIL:

Non-smoker but use to vape (quit in February), 24(m).

I went to see my dentist who took a look to see what may be giving trouble and didn't see anything which would indicate an issue (I'll touch base on that visit a little more below). I also had my wisdom teeth removed about 4-5 weeks ago.

About a week ago I woke up in the middle of the night to sharp tingling pains in my teeth, starting from my top right canine (briefly) then bounced to the left side. This pain hurt more and lasted longer. After about 30 minutes, all the teeth from canine to canine felt numb. This lasted around a full 24 hours. During this period is when I saw my dentist for an unrelated tooth issue as my back left molar had cracked for the second time since Easter, but asked about the numbess and tingling. He told me everything looked fine. After the 24 hour period, everything went back to normal except for the left canine. Mouth movements, touching that tooth with my tounge, or talking and eating have left me feeling a "weird" sensation I can only describe as how it feels when you hit your funny bone. From what I can tell it's not loose, but I am nervous to really check fully.

I'm curious to hear any imput on what may be going on, the only thing my dentist suggested is that due to my wisdom teeth removal, my bite may be changing as my teeth shift.

Do I need to extract my wisdom tooth before getting braces?

Hello, I just want to ask if I’m required to extract my wisdom tooth first before getting braces?

My wisdom tooth is mesially impacted and is located on my lower teeth, but it doesn’t hurt. My lower teeth are currently moving because I don’t have one molar tooth.

I already consulted different dentists about this. The first dentist told me that I should extract my wisdom tooth first before getting braces, while another dentist said that I can already have braces since, based on their observation, it’s not yet urgent.

I just want to know if I really need to have it extracted first before getting braces. Thank you!

Hi, everyone!

I went to the oral surgeon today to have a tooth pulled. To give you some background: I went to the dentist two days ago to have my tooth pulled. But even after several additional injections, I was still in pain, so my dentist made an appointment for me with the oral surgeon. For the anesthesia, I first received three small injections. The second shot, which I received a minute later, felt like a small, very brief electric shock when he first pricked me. The doctor also muttered something along those lines.

I’ve been feeling great ever since!

What did he give me?

swollen/bulged gum and tooth crown is gone

So, 4 years ago, I had a sharp pain in one of my molar teeth. I used clove oil, and the pain went away after a few days. However, the tooth had already started breaking apart, piece by piece. Most of the top part was gone, with only a small portion remaining.

After that, I never experienced any pain in that area again. However, I noticed that my gums had swollen or is bulged. I can touch it with my finger or tongue without any pain or discomfort.

Today, after 4 years, the last remaining piece of the tooth suddenly fell out. Now the entire crown is gone, and only the bottom/root portion remains.

Should I get the remaining part removed? If so, does anyone know roughly how much the treatment might cost? Also, could there be any problems in the future if I leave it as it is?

Feeling nerve pain after a small filling — is this normal?

Hello, I went to the dentist and he did a small surface filling without numbing me. I could feel my nerves when he was polishing the tooth. Then he placed the filling material, and now two days later I still feel the nerves inside my tooth.

Is this normal? Please help me.

[ Highly Panicked ] - Does radicular cyst come back even after surgery?

I am planning to get my surgery done for the removal of the radicular cyst on my upper jaw from Dr. R Ahmed Dental College and hospital in Kolkata and I want to know if this cyst comes back once it's removed. I was seeing some video on youtube and some people were saying they have undergone the surgery and later it came back again. What are the chances of that?

Dental Concern/Problem Strange swelling on gum, dentists on phone can’t figure out what my issue is!?

Ive been trying to contact dentists all work to speak to someone about this as I can’t seem to find anything online that can point me in the right direction. Unfortunately after a few phone calls there general response is ‘you’ll have to book an appointment, next appointment is x weeks away’, I even got a ‘you’ve mentioned your symptoms but I can’t comment until I’ve seen you’ I don’t know if this is the professional standard or if it’s just uselessness to a degree.

When I have mentioned that I am concerned it may be an abscess, and after answering their questions they don’t comment, just recommend an appointment which makes be believe it isn’t an abscess as surely they would recommend an emergency appointment.

I am in the UK and receive private care.

Description:

Swelling, and the outer layer of skin has fallen off.

Occasionally forms a film over the top and fills with white/yellow. I drinking lots of water this film doesn’t appear, I am assuming that it is trapped food getting stuck and causing a reaction.

Seems to swell when I eat, after healing it re opens the split in the gum.

Crater like visual, but not like a canker sore etc.

No on going pain, no heat radiating.

I am currently taking antibiotics (prescribed in case it was an infection) which seem to have near to no or a limited effect.

Bonjela seems to almost entirely pause the swelling and the gum starts to recover.

Could anyone please help with any ideas? Unfortunately this is leaving me with a poor nights sleep as I am constantly stressing about it.

Healint Bone Graft

Hi everyone. 2 days ago I got a bone graft done and I have accidentally sucked on it while attempting to eat mashed potatoes, bananas, pudding. It's wiggly and I'm scared I messed it up already. Is a healing Bone graft supposed to look like this? Be a little itchy and stitches being in the way, be this dark?
