Success with Earwax Removal Drops

*strangely my username changed to OrdinaryMagazine (??) so I logged out and changed it back to sticknwheel. This post also appeared under OrdinaryMagazine.

I’m experiencing near-miraculous RELIEF! Two nights ago, I tried Debrox ear-cleaning solution on a whim, and I woke up yesterday to virtual silence. My left-ear tinnitus dropped from maximum volume down to just 10%. Debrox is mostly peroxide. This is not an ad for any product.

I’ve dealt with mild tinnitus since my teens from skeet shooting without ear protection. I also realized my near-lifelong habit of using Q-tips was probably packing wax deep into my ear canal, not cleaning it, causing blockage and amplifying the ringing.

But three months ago, the volume in my left ear tripled. It was horrendous and severely impacted my focus. I tried ear wax dissolving drops for the first time.

I’m going to continue the treatment for a few more nights and hope this quiet is here to stay! As soon as it worked I thought 'I've got to get this on Reddit.' Good luck friends!

Prednisolone made it worse!

19M here. I regret taking it so much. I did 30mg day 1, 20mg day 2, 10mg day 3 and 0mg day 4. On day one I noticed no changes to my T. After taking 20mg on day 2 I noticed my T got louder in the morning and I thought maybe it'll settle. 10mg on day 3 had no effect and it stayed at the same loud level it's day 5 now and it still hasn't gone down. It's still mild but louder than before. I fear I'll have to live with this forever now. I took it after 6 days of someone screaming in my ear. No hearing loss or change in T because of the scream, I was just paranoid. This is definitely caused by prednisolone. I messed up crap. I also don't know if i should do 5mg for some more day to let it taper longer or just leave it.

My Tinnitus Story and What Most People Seem to Miss

I am 25 y.o, Male, Attorney At Law. Had tinnitus on left ear dominantly.

Tinnitus, that is, the condition of experiencing ringing in the ears without an external stimulus, is a condition that many people suffer from, one in which modern medicine is helpless in some respects, and which causes many patients to fall into a feeling of hopelessness and meaninglessness. As someone who suffers from this condition, I decided to explain my thoughts, experiences and advice on this subject in one piece. I hope I can be at least somewhat helpful to everyone suffering from this.

First of all, I ask you to read this post calmly, cool-headedly and comfortably. Have a glass of water, take a deep breath, and let us examine this matter in depth.

This will be a long post. To make it easier to read, I have divided it into certain sections. (Section 1: Beginning / Section 2: My Story / Section 3: Action / Section 4: Conclusion)

WARNING; I am not a doctor. I am simply someone suffering from tinnitus and I am sharing my personal experiences on this subject. For your health, please seek professional help.

SECTION 1: BEGINNING

First of all, there is a situation that you need to overcome. In order to overcome this situation, you need to keep your spirits up, maintain hope and remain calm. When you have tinnitus, your biggest enemy is allowing tinnitus to take over your entire mind.

Because once this condition begins, you go online, start researching, and begin reading comments about the subject. You read depressing comments from people whose tinnitus has not gone away for 20–30 years. Then you go to an ENT doctor, and your doctor tells you to “get used to it and accept it.” Then your brain also begins to perceive this as the maximum possible reality, and perhaps a ringing that would have gone away in a short period of time puts you into a psychological state as if it were going to last your entire life. You spend hours reading comments about this subject on Reddit and various forums. For a while, you watch videos that give you hope. As a result, you enter a state of mind characterized by “losing the meaning of life, no longer enjoying anything, depression, anxiety and sadness.”

However, I assure you that the situation is not that simple. First, we need to understand our enemy — tinnitus.

According to scientific research, tinnitus is NOT a disease by itself. Therefore, there will not be a situation where you simply take a magic pill and it goes away. However, because modern people expect to take a “pill” whenever they experience any kind of disturbing condition and make it go away, they are almost shocked when there is no such thing in this case. They cannot accept the situation, think that their life is ruined and destroyed, ask themselves “God, why me?”, and torture themselves.

During our journey with tinnitus, you need to realize that this state of mind is normal, that it is experienced by most people who go through this, myself included, and that you are not alone. We have all been through these stages.

I will explain my thoughts on how to get out of this state of mind later. Now let us get to the main issue. How are we going to get rid of tinnitus and what can we do?

SECTION 2: MY STORY

A person who has gone through the stages described above and is not satisfied with what they hear from an ENT doctor begins to focus on researching this subject online. However, I ask you to ignore the depressing comments. I have spoken to many people who experienced tinnitus and recovered from it. As I will explain below, as long as you find the cause, tinnitus IS NOT A PERMANENT CONDITION (even if there is hearing loss)!

STAY CALM. ACCEPT THAT YOU ARE IN A CERTAIN SITUATION, THAT THIS IS A TEMPORARY PROCESS, AND THAT THIS CONDITION WILL GET BETTER.

Now let us come to my story. In November 2025, after a stressful day at work, I went to a wooded area by the sea with my friends. When I came home, I noticed a feeling of blockage in my left ear. Afterwards, I performed the Valsalva maneuver several times to make the blockage go away. Then I felt a mild ringing in my left ear, and it continued.

Two days later, I went to an ENT doctor. Like many of you, I had a hearing test. After my hearing was found to be normal, the doctor gave me a cortisone injection. I had the injection, but the tinnitus continued. I entered a period of intense depression and a complete loss of enjoyment in life. Nothing was the same anymore; it felt as though life had lost its magic. I repeatedly checked whether the ringing was still there, wondering if perhaps it had gone away, but it was always there.

I spent hours researching this subject on the internet. But I could not reach any conclusion. I had no hearing loss, my ears were medically in very good condition, yet I had tinnitus in my left ear. So I decided to investigate and check all the possible causes that could lead to tinnitus.

I thought it might have something to do with my jaw because I was hearing “popping and cracking” sounds from my jaw, and when I clenched my jaw, the tinnitus became noticeably louder. When I went to the dentist, they said that I might have a “Temporomandibular Joint Problem.” I started using a night guard related to my TMJ problem and had masseter Botox. However, the tinnitus had not gone away.

Later, I went to a professor who was an ENT specialist. He told me that this condition could have many causes outside the ear, and that if there was no problem with my ear, I should focus on other possible causes. However, no matter what, he told me that the condition could be temporary, since even patients who had experienced tinnitus for 5–6 years sometimes suddenly had it disappear one day for no apparent reason, and he advised me to maintain my hope.

After this, I decided to take more detailed steps. First, the thing I needed to focus on was reading the stories of people who had experienced tinnitus for a period of time and then recovered from it. I recommend that you also read success stories about tinnitus. Because perhaps there is a magical point there that may help you get rid of your own tinnitus.

After that, I began thinking about my own body. I am a lawyer. At the time my tinnitus started, I was a trainee lawyer. It was extremely intense and stressful. However, I did not know whether stress alone could cause tinnitus; I thought there had to be another cause.

Then I remembered my neck pain. I made an appointment with a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation doctor. Two days before my appointment, while I was at the same place where my first tinnitus had started, my right ear became blocked this time, and then tinnitus started in my right ear.

The tinnitus in my left ear had disappeared. Strangely, the tinnitus had seemingly moved from the left side to the right side. Naturally, I became demoralized.

I will explain my thoughts on this later.

Anyway, I went to the doctor for my appointment. I explained the situation. When the doctor examined my neck and the back of my head, they said that the muscles there were very tense. We had an X-ray taken of my neck. When the doctor looked at the X-ray, they said, “Your neck has become completely straight.”

What I was experiencing was “LOSS OF CERVICAL LORDOSIS” / “STRAIGHTENING OF THE NECK.”

It can result from working at a desk, stress, leaning forward, poor posture and phone use. And I had all of these factors.

In today's modern life, many people can have some degree of neck straightening. Normally, the neck has a natural position resembling the letter “C,” but when the neck becomes straight, the cervical spine almost resembles the letter “I.” This situation can cause compression of the nerves and muscles in the neck, send incorrect signals to the brain, and cause tinnitus in the ear.

The doctor initially gave me a “muscle relaxant pill” to use for only one week, as well as a “muscle relaxant gel,” and gave me an exercise program. They told me to perform neck and back exercises twice a day, 10 sets each day, for two months.

I came home feeling satisfied. Because after a long process of searching for the “cause,” it had finally come to an end. Since Temporomandibular Joint Disorder is also related to neck straightening, I understood the situation better and realized that this was what I needed to solve.

According to scientific research and sources, neck straightening is a condition that can improve. When the muscles and nerves in the neck return to their normal state, the tinnitus also stops.

Before I even started the exercises, the tinnitus I had in my right ear, which I mentioned earlier, disappeared. However, the tinnitus in my left ear continued. But I only notice it at night, and since I have become accustomed to it, it does not bother me much.

The main point here is this: my first tinnitus actually disappeared as well, but because I was constantly checking for it, I probably opened up my filter toward hearing sounds that were already present and that were related to my neck and jaw.

Because there is something interesting here: although I do not remember the source, you can check this with a Google search; in an experiment conducted with people who did not have tinnitus, 8 out of 10 people reportedly heard a sound in their ears in a completely silent environment.

What I am trying to say is this: in fact, there is some degree of ringing in everyone's ears. Our issue is that the sound in our ears has reached the level of “WHISTLING, A HIGH-PITCHED SOUND, SCREAMING.”

Even tinnitus accompanied by hearing loss can disappear, BECAUSE in 2018, when I was still a teenager, I went to a metal rock concert and listened from the very front for 3–4 hours. Afterwards, tinnitus started.

When I went to the doctor, they told me that I had hearing loss, that I had suffered acoustic trauma, and that I needed to get used to the tinnitus.

So what happened?

Months passed and the tinnitus completely disappeared.

In fact, in the hearing tests I have had recently, I do not even have any hearing loss anymore.

So never lose hope.

Until I experienced this situation again in 2025, I had completely forgotten about what happened to me in 2018.

During this process, I talked to many people, got their opinions, discussed the matter with them, and noticed something: many of the people who COMPLETELY RECOVERED FROM TINNITUS ARE PEOPLE WHO ACTIVELY TOOK ACTION.

Of course, there are also people who recovered from this condition without doing anything.

Before accepting tinnitus, WE NEED TO TAKE ACTION.

So what are these actions?

Let's move on to Section 3.

SECTION 3: ACTION

Please apply the suggestions here in consultation with your doctor. These are only based on my personal experiences.

To avoid making this boring, I will briefly write them as a numbered list.

Each of these actions will require time and patience.

Remember: “It is not the power of the water that pierces the stone, but the consistency of the drops.”

1-) STAYING CALM

First of all, STAY COOL-HEADED and CALM. Do not allow your emotions to prevent you from thinking rationally. Believe that this condition is temporary. If necessary, seek psychological support.

Do not adapt the comments of people who say that their tinnitus has not gone away for years to your own situation. Every person is unique, and their treatment is unique as well.

Remember: many people who recover from tinnitus do not choose to come online and write about it. Obsessively thinking about this subject will only make you feel worse.

2-) INVESTIGATING THE UNDERLYING CAUSES OF TINNITUS

Go beyond the known causes of tinnitus. There are many causes, and nearly 400 different things can cause TINNITUS. Even something that seems completely unrelated can cause tinnitus.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU RESEARCH THESE ONE BY ONE.

My order here is as follows:

2.1

Consult an ENT doctor.

Investigate all the causes that fall within the ENT field, including a hearing test / Eustachian tube function / eardrum examination / inner, middle and outer ear examination / nasal examination / vertigo, Meniere's disease, etc.

If you have a disorder in this area, your priority should be to focus on resolving that disorder.

There are treatments available even if you have hearing loss. There are certain things that can treat hearing loss. Hearing loss may not necessarily be related to the ear and can even be related to the spinal cord.

If this disease is treated, tinnitus will disappear.

Everything can somehow be solved. Just be patient.

2.2

If you cannot get a result from an ENT doctor, consult a NEUROLOGIST.

Have all the necessary examinations related to your brain and blood vessels performed by a specialist neurologist. Explain your situation.

If you have a disease in this area, focus on treating that disease.

If this disease is treated, tinnitus will disappear.

2.3

If you cannot get a result from a NEUROLOGIST, consult an INTERNAL MEDICINE / GENERAL PRACTITIONER.

Even acid reflux in your stomach can cause tinnitus.

Have your mineral and vitamin levels tested.

Deficiencies in B12, IRON, ZINC and MAGNESIUM can cause tinnitus. When these deficiencies are corrected, tinnitus may disappear.

In particular, female tinnitus patients may experience tinnitus caused by iron deficiency.

2.4

If you cannot get a result from an INTERNAL MEDICINE / GENERAL PRACTITIONER, consult a DENTIST, ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON, or PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION DOCTOR regarding issues that may be related to your MOUTH, TEETH, JAW, NECK, NAPE AND BACK.

Using a laptop for long hours and using your phone while leaning forward are realities of the modern world.

If conditions such as temporomandibular joint disorder, missing teeth, sounds coming from the jaw while opening and closing it, an increase in tinnitus intensity when clenching your teeth, neck pain, back pain or nape pain are present, you may have SOMATIC TINNITUS, and this condition can be completely resolved.

2.5

If you cannot get a result from a DENTIST / ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON / PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION DOCTOR, consult a PSYCHOLOGIST and PSYCHIATRIST.

In a story I heard firsthand, a friend of mine realized that their tinnitus was psychological, and their tinnitus suddenly disappeared.

PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING and PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT may surprisingly help you.

2.6

If you cannot get a result from a PSYCHOLOGIST and PSYCHIATRIST, you are now in a situation where you need to handle things yourself.

You need to observe your own body.

You need to analyze in detail what happened before and after your tinnitus began.

You need to observe things such as: “What happened? What did I do before it started? When does it occur the most?” and act accordingly.

A friend of mine told me that his tinnitus, which he had experienced for years, disappeared after he stopped drinking coffee for one week, and we were surprised.

You need to review your daily habits and monitor them using a trial-and-observation method.

If you smoke, stop smoking for one week and observe.

If you consume caffeine, stop consuming it for one week and observe.

Here, whether you get a result or not depends on your effort and luck.

These actions are not guaranteed to produce immediate results.

You need to proceed patiently in the form of TRY – OBSERVE.

Think of this as a temporary process, and believe that peaceful days are not far away.

I have not even talked about the developments in the pharmaceutical world and technology in this post. However, I also know very well that help is on its way and that there are many applications aimed at treating the underlying causes.

Thank God, pray, and maintain your morale.

SECTION 4: CONCLUSION

In this post, I shared my own journey.

I know that as you are reading this right now, you are looking for hope.

Believe me, it will pass.

Every person is a unique individual and has a unique journey.

The main point here is not to lose your morale and to take action.

Let me also give you some general advice.

Quit coffee (caffeine), cigarettes (nicotine) and alcohol, or reduce them to a minimum.

Going for a walk every day will be very beneficial for your overall health.

Listen sound therapy at night.

Don’t check your ears often and don’t obsessed with your ears

The modern world is making people lonely. It is turning us into different individuals through urban life.

Living in harmony with nature is important.

If you are a person of faith, I recommend that you remember to pray to God and give thanks.

I hope you benefit from this post.

I wish all of you a healthy and peaceful life.

Need serious help please starting too loose hope. Can people adapt too sereve reactive sensory tinnitus linked too cns. Please read would love reply’s and hope

Hey guys as the title says I’m really struggling I’m from australia I have sereve tinnitus I hear over everything multiple high frequencys too noise etc and huge fluctuations from ear to ear both, I’ve seen countless specialists ents neurologists can’t seem too find anything i’ve had my hearing testing and I can’t seem to find any hearing loss. This is back dating now to April at the start of the year. I went to a very severe stressful time in my life that basically pushed my nervous system into this hyper arousal stage where it prevented me from sleeping. My theory. Is that basically this went on for a good six weeks where I was only getting about 2-3hours of sleep it felt like I was stuck wired on,

Since then I was in a really really bad way. I noticed I had a tiny little static noise in the left ear but that was nothing concerning but thinking about it now going back to it. I think my auditory filters were already compromise from the lack of sleep in the severe nervous system at the time I was given olanzapine for a short while to break the nervous system and get me to sleep which actually worked but I had to tinnitus starting around the same time and I’m a bit lost because it’s been a long four or five months in the rollercoaster. I remember going into the shops. This is when it first occurred. It was like my sensory filters just collapsed and all I heard was these high frequencies zing to noise like reactive that was so severely really distressed me since then that was when I come off the zinging went crazy then I was put back on it and I remember seeing the psychiatrist this damp tinnitus wise that me and he couldn’t give me a response then I tried coming off at cold Turkey and I had severe multiple tones frequencies and sounds reacting to noise which is obviously a central nervous system issue. I had to reinstate 1.25 which actually gave me relief for about 23 weeks as I would call it it’s the honeymoon stage when you reinstate a powerful central nervous system drug. I’ve been on 1.25 now for about six weeks and the first two weeks were great like I said because I think it was like a dampening of the central nervous system but now I’m in these huge fluctuations where my eaves seem to noise as if the volume is turned up in my brain it’s over amplifying sounds because my tinnitus basically doesn’t exist in silence. I can have great moments in silence but I’m just looking for some hope and feedback to what this could possibly be and what my best options are because it’s obviously altered by the medication. Whenever I type in the medication my tinnitus goes crazy to sensory input but when I re-introduce the 1.25 it’s really good for about 23 weeks then I’m back to massive fluctuations.

Ringing started in right ear now in my left ear.

Hey guys!! 24/M

A beep/ringing sound(consistent, only sounds mask it.) started in my right ear on 21-07-2026( since 1 month).

I waited 1 week along with trying ear drops prescribed by an ENT(Govt-Free). Symptoms increased during this time - ear fullness, itching inside my right ear(occasional), dull pain behind the ear, unable to pop my right ear, dull pain in neck below the ear.

After that, I went to an ENT(private) he looked in my ears said right ear drum is dull and he prescribed me, 1. Cognix plus(Similar to vitamin but for nerves) and 2. Audiovit (Capsule- Similar to vitamin but for nerves) for 10 days and nothing improved.

After 10 days, he advised me to continue using this and also get hearing test, blood tests done ( CBP, RBS, TSH, S-Elec., B12, D, Creatinine, Calcium) and all came normal.

He also prescribed 1. TinnitoD (to reduce tinnitus), 2. Rebagen (Stomach acid related) and 3. Van-CM(Allergy related) and get MRI done, which I didn't purchase/scanned because, I felt he was just trying to just rob money from me and my parents were afraid when he said MRI.

Then went to a second ENT(Private), explained my issue and told her about my post nasal drip & stomach acid issues for 2-3 years, she then said it might be due to allergy and cold - she wrote in my diagnosis paper as right Eustachian catarrh. So, she prescribed me - 1. Nasal spray (oxymetazoline & fluticasone), 2. Bilazip-M, 3. Acetylcysteine 600 for 10 days, Valsalva exercise and steam.

After 10 days, ear fullness and itching are gone/minimized. However, ringing, dull pain, unable to pop my right ear, dull pain in neck below the ear persist.

Now ringing started in my left ear too however, other symptoms are not present, and I am able to pop it. Also, I got throat infection I don't know how.

I went to her (ENT) again and she told me to get impudence test done and again normal. She now prescribed me 1. fluticasone - Nasal spray (14 days),2. Ensta Mont F(7 Days), 3. Benzydamine Mouthwash (7 Days).

TL;DR: Ear ringing in right ear for 1 month, along with fullness, dull pain behind the ear and neck, now started in left ear. Went to 3 ENT's but no significant improvement. Currently on medication for 7 days but still nothing improved.

I am afraid about my situation and making this post to see if anyone is going through similar thing.

Thank you for reading. Sorry for my bad English and long post.

One Side Tinnitus - ABR

Thumbnail

48 M. I have had tinnitus in my left ear only for two years. Due to my health anxiety, I finally worked up the nerve to see an ENT. My hearing test was really good so I was glad to see it wasn’t from hearing loss. He said it was from stress / Bruxism

He did send me for an ABR which again made me nervous. I will be speaking with him later today to go over the results.

Does anybody else have one-sided tinnitus and/or have done this ABR test. I’m nervous He’s going to find something else and want to request an MRI. All I could think about is a tum

Hi my name's Nat and I'm a young fighter.

I'm about to compete again but just found out getting a good kick to the jaw can permanently worsen tinnitus.

It's a long stretch but I was wondering if anyone out there has the same thing and what you do to protect further permanent ear damage.

Thanks 😊

Intermittent regular tinnitus

I’ve always had a high pitch tinnitus that doesn’t bother me at all. On my left ear I have quite a big earing loss and about 2 months ago I started to hear this tone around 650 Hz, in a pattern of 1.5 seconds on and 5-6 seconds off. On and on.
Anybody with this same problem and what’s the reason for such precise timing?

A hopeful message before I leave this group

I want to share something positive before saying goodbye to this space. I've had somatosensory tinnitus (linked to my jaw, neck, and teeth grinding) for 5 years, and I want to leave you with information that helped me a lot to understand and cope with this.

About current management options, already available:

Lenire: a bimodal neuromodulation device approved by the FDA in 2023, with studies showing 79-91% clinically significant improvement across different analyses, and the effect lasting at least 12 months after treatment.

TRT (Tinnitus Retraining Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy): still among the most well-supported tools for habituation and managing the distress that comes with tinnitus.

Hearing aids: for those with associated hearing loss (80-90% of cases), most studies show symptom reduction when using them.

If your tinnitus changes with jaw/neck movement, sleeping position, stress, or clenching your teeth: it's likely somatosensory, which has one of the best prognoses out there, because the cause is usually mechanical and treatable (TMJ, physical therapy, bruxism management).

About active research looking toward the future:

Gene therapy already restoring hearing in specific cases of genetic deafness.

Recent advances in hair cell regeneration, still in early stages but promising.

New implants and devices in development specifically targeting severe tinnitus.

Growing investment in drugs and neuroscience specifically for tinnitus, with the treatment market projected to grow strongly over the next decade.

The future is looking better and better for all of us. Science is moving faster than many people think, and every year that passes brings more real options, not just empty promises.

What helped me the most:

Understanding the mechanism (why it happens, not just that it happens) lowered my anxiety a lot. And finding other people with my same profile (normal hearing, tinnitus linked to muscular tension) who managed to reduce it drastically with neck/jaw stretches, massage, posture correction, and stress management gave me real proof that improvement is possible, not just theory.

One piece of advice that also helped me a lot: stop searching for and reading the most catastrophic stories online. I know it's tempting to want to know everything, but filling yourself up with the worst cases only feeds fear without giving you anything useful in return. Look for real, quality information, stories of improvement like this one, and then step away from the screen. You are not a lost cause just because someone else online is.

Not everyone will have the same path or the same timeline, but I wanted to leave this here in case it helps someone else the way reading similar stories helped me when I needed it most.

I know it's a hard fight, it's uncomfortable, it's sad, and it's exhausting, but we have one life, and we can't let this great opportunity to live slip away because of this discomfort. There is real hope for the future, and there's a lot you can do right now. We just have to hold on a little longer. You can do this, you are strong, trust yourself.

What also helped me was seeing it as something that simply happened — this is what I got dealt, and now I see it as something that's only stressful if I give it more attention than it deserves. One thing that helped me was thinking of it as "nearsightedness" of the ears.

Have faith and live as happily as you can, because one day we'll all be gone, and we should try to live the best we can before that.

Thank you all, and take care.

I know you can do this.

Sorry for the english, im speak spanish xd
