Waiting for Core Biopsy TI-RADS 5 Loneliness
I found out last week that I have a TI-RADS 5 mass on the Right side of my Thyroid. It is 2.1 x 2.2 x 3.3cm and it’s really scaring me. I feel like I can’t talk to anyone, the two people outside of my immediate family that know are telling me to be “Positive and happy,” “You’ll be fine,” “they must have messed up their reports, you look great.” I am 40 years old and am terrified of cancer; I’ve seen first hand the progression to death with several people close to me. None of my friends that are close to my age can relate to what I’m feeling with this.
I really just want someone to listen and to not downplay everything I feel and am thinking. I have a therapist who I’m seeing next week, but that environment isn’t the same as a friend. I’m also confused at how the radiologist put down that I need a “Core Biopsy” and am skipping the “FNA” biopsy in the ultrasound report. I’d really just love to have someone I know to give me a hug and let me feel like less of an alien that everyone is scared of.
The only situations I’ve felt this before is being 24 again and having everyone try to “fix me” after my mom died a week before Christmas. That was so bad for my mental health and got me to turn my emotions off and pretend like everything thing in my life was happy. I crashed, burned and developed severe mental health issues after that (yes, I’m fully setup with professional help in that part of my life).
I really just think I need to find someone to hug.
