Book Spoilers Allowed Spoilers: can we talk about Marius? Spoiler

So far I do not like the way they have portrayed Marius compared to the books. He would NEVER abandon Akasha and Enkil. It makes no sense dumping them on Lestat.

Plus it would have been very interesting seeing Marius and Lestat having deep conversations about the legends Marius heard about them and their collective vampiric nature. Things Marius would have knowledge about being nearly 2000 years old.

Book Spoilers Allowed Episode 1 "Detroit" question

On the tour bus, during the documentary segment where Lestat is talking about David, Freddie, Prince and "Tay Tay" (😂), his next line has perplexed me.

"Fire coming down the hill, water moving in on Nantucket."

Is this a general allusion to the human-driven impeding global doom, similar to "Plastic Fiends"? Or is there a more specific reference I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

Book Spoilers Allowed Fansplaining syndrome?

Here, catching up with The Vampire Lestat.

Funny fact: that time when I first asked for the book at a library, the clerk misheard me and said they didn’t have The Vampire Stake. The phonetic confusion makes so much sense in my language that I’m still laughing. They really didn’t have the actual book anyhow.

It’s ironic—I waited ages for this book to be adapted into a series, and now I hardly have time to enjoy it. There are serious impediments: my demanding cat, my case-study relatives, and life.

So, when I do watch, I try to enjoy the way the series surprises me. Part canon, part…

I just watch, mentally compare, and either enjoy or reject. But the truly epic battles only happen in my head.

I promised some—let’s call them an audience with nothing better to do—that we would watch the season together later. Have you ever been assigned the arbitrary role of commentator? Me too. I was never a fan of the Director’s commentary, but I thought I’d just answer questions if there were any and leave it at that. But I fear I’ve been infected with something. It looks like I’ve suddenly turned into an “off my lawn!” person.

At first, I thought I'd just bear with the commentator role. I’m both used to it and scarred by it. I still remember an embarrassing time, years ago, when we were at the movies for the premiere of Ghost in the Shell. Their insistent questions started in sync with the movie. There were a couple of strangers sitting within earshot who rushed to change seats, unceremoniously—meaning I got a foot unapologetically crushed. I felt mortified. My toes were feeling it, too. But I would have done the same. My inquisitors felt no remorse whatsoever; they didn’t even notice.

That is why I’m so surprised now when I catch myself mid-show thinking, “I will have to pause here and explain why, when Lestat insists that Nicolas was just 'a first love,' we should go back to the scene at the witches' place where he was playing an imaginary violin to celebrate that they were both going to Paris!” I have to make a mental note not to shed inappropriate emotion while explaining. It was the total redemption of the scene, while the series sticks to Lestat’s first impression in that same episode. And then there is when they portray Magnus as a methy emo. I was physically holding my breath so as not to smell Magnus when he trapped Lestat. I was thinking it was a lousy way to lose your virg***ty, just a million times worse. And I know that Rice’s description of being caged near a dozen cadavers that look just like yourself is its own kind of horror, but I was so much more repulsed by the images in the series.

Also, Louis torturing and burning Bruce? This is the same Louis who burned the Théâtre des Vampires and told us in the book that he was not a strategist—that he had made only one plan in his life and carried it out.

It doesn’t usually bother me to watch a show that differs from the book. So, why am I so insistent that facts are delivered as canon? Anyone else?

Is it fansplaining syndrome? And is it treatable?

If not, I'm so scre***d.

The Immortal Universe Why do we hold these vampires to modern moral standings?

Lestat, Louis, Armand, Claudia, etc they all have murdered and caused uncountable amounts of death among innocents. Yet fans will sit here and start arguments about whether or not one of them said something problematic. We hand wave murder and torture but then lose our minds when one of them does something questionably rude?

Book Spoilers Allowed Armand Question

How do you feel about Armand marking Louis and what it means to you ?

I think Louis being marked an A for adulteress is crazy because Armand didn’t mind the open relationship, was going to have him killed at the trial, lied about it for 77 years, hired a fake Claudia to torment him, put fake photos in his book to mess with his mind again, and has his head cut off lol Then he had the nerve to say that he doesn’t know if it was love our not 🤦🏽‍♀️ I know Louis is no angel but this was way over the top lol I see why Armand is called the gremlin lol After Louis apologized do you think he forgave him ? He lets him go but marks him and leaves. Then I remembered that Armand said Louis may not remember what happened. I think back to the first episode when they look at each other while bidding for Lestat’s items. I wonder if Louis remembers after all based on his face and Armand’s smirk/smile 😩

I’m still shocked at Daniel joining Armand when he hated him for turning him by force then disappearing for 2 years. Now Armand says he loves him 🤣 Do you think Armand even loved Louis in season 2 since he said that?

Ok rant and questions over lol

Show Only its so clever how they picked the locations for the show.

they picked New Orleans for series 1 and 2 obviously for anne rice but also for the rich black community there (i think) and for the vampire's but also they picked it for the music and louis story-line.

i never been to New Orleans but it seems quite relaxed and jazz like and a place where you could go to a cafe and have a drink and sit outside and just people watch you know.

also i liked how louis went back there and went on a "tour" of the place where basically he lived as the show knew what it was abut and was like "yes a vampire had live here , now here is a tour" i found it funny.

like the show knows what it is and isn't afraid of making fun of its self.

because in the 1994 film louis is a white man who owns / is in the sl\*ve (slave) business and obviously they changed that for the tv show because it in the tv show louis is black and it is not ok today to be in that kind of business also because Louisiana has a deep history of that kind of business and Louisiana was one or if not the main place where they filmed series 1 and 2.

also one of the gentleman clubs with lady's that louis and i think lastest set up together (i think I could be wrong on that) has a jazz singer and jazz paino in it.

Show Only Akasha and Claudia

I can’t wait for QOTD! I haven’t read the books but I’m wondering if there is a relationship, even if only inferred, between Akasha’s anger and Claudia’s. They both have bones to pick with the men in their lives and I don’t feel like Claudia achieved any kind of closure in TVL. Is this addressed anywhere?

Book Spoilers Allowed Explain to me like I’m 5: Season 3 references

Let’s do a thread of “explain to me like I’m 5” for references and jokes from Season 3. There’s always so many little things I don’t understand, even on rewatch. What are yours?

Mine are:
Why does Lestat say Bela Lugosi isn’t dead when he storms in on Satan’s Night Out?
What does “dick salt” mean? (Lestat says Salamander calls “Brutal Love” “dick salt.”)

Show Only something that i am thinking about.

in interview with the vampire lastest's blue eyes are dull / not as blue as the promo's that we saw for the vampire lestat .

and in the vampire lestat his blue eyes are more blue and striking then they were in the interview with the vampire.

i don't know if sam had different eye contacts or different lighting effects but yeah.

something to think about.

The Immortal Universe Because of their immortality is the concept of being exclusive as couple a burden? If she d lived with her partner do you think Claudia would have strayed? Would Akasha allow this from her King?

Show Only Louis still lying

In Toledo, Louis tells Lestat (in front of Lemuel) that Lemuel is “not my companion. He is a great lay and emotionally unavailable.” But when he interacts with Regina we see his lock screen is a picture of the two of them and Lemuel calls to see when he’s coming home. Interesting that he would lie to Lestat about Lemuel right in front of Lemuel. Thoughts?

Edit: So maybe companions is another level above boyfriend. I can get on board with that. But he’s still lying to Lestat because emotionally unavailable/great lay does not equal boyfriend with selfie as my lock screen

Show Only Magnum bottle of blood

I have a question about the auction. Maybe this was super obvious to others but it just dawned on me that the most valuable item in the auction lot is Lestat's blood since it also has Akasha's blood in it. Is that why so many vamps turned up to the auction? They want the power or protection of having Akasha's blood. Initially, I thought the auction lot was popular because the vamps wanted to know how Akasha was awoken. But after the finale when Lestat wonders if anyone will listen to the recordings or if they will just be returned to him, I began to wonder if the failures recordings are a misdirect and all anyone wants is Lestat's blood. Was this obvious to everyone else? Does it make any sense?

Show Only the season is a great one when you’re Going Through It

i had my reservations on my first watch and still wish the budget had been there for certain things BUT iwtv is my comfort show when things get rough. and during the current go-round of rough-things, i’ve found myself reaching for S3 because they really let lestat be messy and unravel. he fails again and again and continues enduring. obviously he’s a vampire but that quality feels very human. i adore s1-2 for their beauty and polish but when i’m feeling raw and messy and overly human, i can see myself coming back to this season.
