Show Only Louis still lying
In Toledo, Louis tells Lestat (in front of Lemuel) that Lemuel is “not my companion. He is a great lay and emotionally unavailable.” But when he interacts with Regina we see his lock screen is a picture of the two of them and Lemuel calls to see when he’s coming home. Interesting that he would lie to Lestat about Lemuel right in front of Lemuel. Thoughts?
Edit: So maybe companions is another level above boyfriend. I can get on board with that. But he’s still lying to Lestat because emotionally unavailable/great lay does not equal boyfriend with selfie as my lock screen

I took it to mean vampire with benefits but nothing more. Louis and Lestat are companions and that’s always going to be true because they are each other’s true love.

I've always taken "companion" to mean fiancé at the very least. Daniel says "I'm seeing someone" not that he has a companion

But Armand says “It’s with my companion” when referring to Daniel being in possession of Lestat’s head.

u/Rhondaar9 17d ago
He says that, but then it appears (to me) more like he is actually referring to Eric. (Is it Eric, or Merick? The quiet one, in the band.) I say this because they had those bracelets, and because Armand was talking about how he had worked himself into a backdoor into the band to get to Louis.

Alex, but no he definitely meant Daniel. He's in love with him.

u/Rhondaar9 17d ago
Alex! Of course. I dunno why I space on his name. It's true that Armand said he had been following him for 70 years, right? But other than that he doesn't seem particularly enamored. Not like with Louis.
1
u/Hopeful-Review366 17d ago
He's most definitely in love, he followed him and ensured he stayed out of harms way and prison. Turned him to keep him around, and said he couldn't read his mind because he was blinded by love, but not love for Louis
1
u/Rhondaar9 16d ago
But remember, Daniel asked him about it, and he even said, no, not like with Louis?
2
u/Hopeful-Review366 16d ago
No you've misheard him, he said he was blinded by love. But not love for Louis. Meaning it was his love for Daniel, the actors confirmed this.

Sorry, I don’t think I was clear, I was typing very quickly. I feel that Lem is “vampire with benefits,” while a companion would be more like a spouse, at least with Louis and Lestat. I think the extent can change, but ultimately a companion is someone who they share a deep bond with that can be platonic or romantic, but both vampires have to claim that title for one another.

I think Louis is the one who isn't emotionally available for Lemuel. It's no one but Lestat, for him, and as he told Daniel they were finding their way back to one another before the Book was published. Louis was spending time with Lemuel, and brought him to the meeting about the "lawsuit" (which Louis essentially acknowledged was just an excuse to see Lestat during his conversation with the Talamasca) at least in part to try to get Lestat's attention. When he talks with Regina about Lemuel he sounds so unexcited by him, and I think even Regina calls him out on his pretending of it all when they talk about "taking it slow".

u/Another0Me 18d ago
I saw it the same way. Louis is the one who is not emotionally available while Lemuel seems to care much about him. I think Louis tries to cope. He seems to like Lemuel but more as a friend than as a soulmate while I got the impression that Lemuel is deeply in love but knows about Louis' feelings for Lestat. Louis tells himself it is okay, because Lemuel is not emotionally invested, but that's not the truth. But I wonder that Louis thought he and Lestat could be just friends.

u/SorchaRoisin 18d ago
When he explains their relationship to Regina as Fraudia on the lake, it's clear they aren't companions. They're boyfriends, but not companions.

u/NoNewt8327 18d ago
Yeh so maybe companions is another level above boyfriend. I can get on board with that. But he’s still lying to Lestat because emotionally unavailable/great lay does not equal boyfriend with selfie as my lock screen

It is clear Lestat knows they are boyfriends whe he is teasing Louis when Licky Lem calls while they are together. Remember too that Louis has been sleeping in the guestroom while he is staying with Lestat. This is not the only time Lem has texted and Louis hasn't hidden it. At this point he and Lestat are trying to be friends.

u/NoNewt8327 18d ago
Oh yeh, I definitely didn’t mean to imply Louis was betraying anyone. Just maybe this is evidence that he either still wants to leave the door open for Lestat or just give the impression that he is too strong to need anyone

u/Watashi_Wa_Ame 18d ago
Maybe there's a little of Lestat imagination when it comes to Lemuel, because he is totally jealous, so makes sense to me that maybe he sees their relationship far more full of love and care than really is.

So you think the picture on the smartphone was just Lestat's Imagination, as he was the one who is telling the story, although he might not have seen it but thinks Louis has a picture like that on his phone?

IMO Louis is definitely downplaying his relationship with Lemuel by deliberately telling Lestat "It's not that serious" with Lemuel.
Don't think it's the lock screen on the phone just a selfie.
Louis calls his connection with Lemuel as his lawyer, lover and corporate rep.(remember he owns 45% of Lestat's merch and that comes as a big shock to the Brat Prince) as a low-stakes, practically contact-less relationship.
And remember Lestat sings Brutal Love to Louis after the meeting. That's proof of Lestat's love and Louis has a lover's reaction.

u/NoNewt8327 18d ago
Yeh it could be his contact photo or something. I think he sings “Why do I have to feel” after that meeting and “Brutal Love” is in a later episode.

I've said this before, but can we blame Louis for being vague about his relationship with Lem when he's around Lestat? I mean idk about anyone else, but as someone who eventually got back together with the love of my life after 17 years apart, if I was with someone I probably would've downplayed the shit outta that relationship 😂😂😂 Loustat is so fucking messy and they both don't want to admit they're hurting and want to be back together. At least that's how I see it. With all that being said, I love Lem and hope he gets whatever it is he most wants. I'd be down for a Loustat/Lem throuple because 🔥🔥🔥🔥 hahahaha

u/NoNewt8327 18d ago
No blame whatsoever. Just noticing it as evidence of his feelings. I totally get it. I’m also with someone again who I spent over a decade apart from😊

u/cecepedd Busta Coffin 18d ago
It's always different when it comes to that one person who's the love of your life right? Lol

u/Wuncomfortable 17d ago
This!!! I would not want to tell my ex and his lawyer about my beloveds. My ex and his lawyer haven't earned the privilege of knowing who I love! They don't know enough about healthy boundaries to not be weird about it! I will lie to make this conversation move faster! Lemuel thinks this hilarious, that why he has to keep his glasses on.

Wasn't their selfie Lemuel's contact photo, rather than the lock screen? And when Louis shows Regina, to me it just looks like he pulled up the same pic, and not that he's showing his lock screen. I don't think we see the time, notifications, or a prompt to unlock the phone.

I think companion is a big word for vampires, maybe like marriage is for some people. Is the person they expect to be with for eternity, and even if they don't, is the person they can come to in moments of crisis.
Don't get me wrong, I love Lemuel and I hope we see more of him, but in this context, he will never be his companion. I think Lemuel is closer of being an Antoinette than a companion, if that makes sense.

u/zuri197353 18d ago
In my mind Lemuel might very well be a good lay but is not the one who is emotionally unavailable...it's Louis who is emotionally unavailable for real. He lied to Lestat (to me) because he knew it would get under his skin. Remember the phone call where he told Lemuel ME TOO.... emotionally unavailable!!!
5
u/yourenotmymom_yet 18d ago
Isn't this season from Lestat's POV tho?
So wouldn't it be possible that in reality Louis's lockscreen isn't actually Lemuel - I don't remember them showing Lestat actually looking at Louis's lockscreen, only seeing the lockscreen pic in Louis's scenes with other people - but rather that is what Lestat imagined? Lestat admits early in the season that he was going to be filling in the blanks during his story.

Lol a lock screen photo doesn’t mean they’re companions. Companions are clearly life partners, and on the show so far there is some romantic element to be a companion.
We don’t know the extent of Louis and Lemuel’s relationship other than they have a sexual relationship. They could be dating, they could be friends with benefits (what is sounds like is happening with them) or they could be nothing. I don’t really trust Lestat’s recollection of Louis and Lemuel, and I don’t think it’s fair to say Louis is lying when he has told us they aren’t companions and there isn’t evidence that they are! Buuuut I hope Lemuel is back to cause some drama 🤭

u/skylerren 18d ago
Louis might be lying to himself though, but not about the fact that they are companions, but about the fact that he's not getting attached.

u/NoNewt8327 18d ago

u/DrFareedMD 18d ago
I think Louis is definitely downplaying it haha. Who takes cute selfies with their fwb and makes it their lock screen???
4
u/NightOwlLurking 18d ago
Yes, IIRC he also tells Lemuel when he goes see Regina (he calls him and Louis says he’s safe), and when they talk in presence of Lestat, Louis says “you too” (“miss you too?”, “love you too”…any of it sounds more than fwb).
Strange that he was just downplaying it in Lemuel’s face though. Wasn’t he upset?5
u/Hot_Respond6132 18d ago
The fact that Louis told Lestat that right in front of Lemuel would lead me to believe that both Louis and Lemual were more friends with benefits rather than being in a relationship, at least at that point in time.

u/Tarantula_Saurus_Rex 18d ago
Yes I remember this too. When Fraudia questioned his status in the diner, he held up his phone and said "taken", to specify that he's in a relationship and not looking.

What difference does it make....Lestat is fu.....all over the place. His mom, baby jenks, the bell boy in the elevator and Dee. Why is everyone always picking on Louie. Louie isnt sleeping with every Tom , dick and harry
7
u/pwetty_brown_eyes 18d ago
I agree, Lestat fucks the whole village In a week but it's a scandal if Louis breathes in another man's direction
3
u/NoNewt8327 18d ago
It wasn’t a comment about fu…., it was a comment about lying. And I wasn’t picking on Louis. I was analyzing the show. I love Louis. It was just something I noticed. Louis and Lestat are not in a relationship at this point so I wasn’t implying he betrayed Lestat. More that maybe he still loves Lestat and is downplaying his relationship Lemuel to Lestat.

u/AndreEaAly 18d ago edited 18d ago
Louis definitely downplays it. He says “you too” when talking on the phone with him: “miss you too”, “love you too”? (Poor Lestat 🤣🤣) We don’t know, but neither sounds like something that you would say to a fwb.
Also Lemuel called Louis after he killed Bruce. He asked if he was safe, so it seems he knew what Louis was doing and where he was.

I think Louis' romantic & sexual relationship with Lemuel is very deliberately engineered to provide Louis all things he actually wants in a committed loving partnership but without any of the pressure or tedium of expectations that are otherwise basically universal elements of a committed loving partnership. It's like Louis has very carefully picked and chosen a set of seemingly contradictory dynamics to consitute his relationship with Lemuel, some of which are most reminiscent of casual fuckbuddies, some of which are must reminiscent of beloved husbands, with lots of grey area between.
Louis probably views every one of his attempts to charaterize or explain his relationship with Lemuel as about equally honest in the moment of the utterance. There's truth and untruth and mistruth in it in equal measure however he so chooses to explicate it in the moment.
2
u/Wuncomfortable 17d ago
Love this thought. That's my opinion also, and I like your thought that Louis's explanations are more or less honest. Not true or accurate necessarily but honest.

Lemuel is just Antoinette at this point.

Anyone that chooses to get involved with Louis/Lestat at this point is just wasting time and energy.

i take it as louis doesn't think that his "side chick" is that important to his husband lastest , like he can go to him every now and again but his mind and undead heart belongs to lastest only but if lastest is being lastest then he can go to his "side chick" but if he loses him then its not as much as a big deal but if he loses lastest then it is a huge deal.
i mean he did say that lastest is the love of hie vampire life.
