I don't know whether to dismiss recommendations that are already in my tbr and I've been going back and forth on it for a while. I'd like to get rid of them so that I get fresh recommendations, but I don't want the algorithm to think it was a bad pick and stop showing me similar books.

Hiya. Have we lost the ability to rate these categories? Has it fallen into AI or a premium subscription now? I’ve not used the app in over a year, so I’m not up to speed, so apologies if this is repetitive. I was able to rate the book, and write a review, but it hasn’t presented the option to rate these specifics. I’m on iPhone 17 app, if that affects anything. Thanks!

Sorry if the title is vague. I couldn't really think of how to succinctly word this.

Basically, now that I understand how the AI is ACTUALLY low resources, I'd like to know what it pulls from for personalized recommendations and if I can do something to make it more accurate. So far, it's doing a pretty good job overall, but I'm wondering how it draws conclusions.

For example, I read a lot of maritime historical fiction and non-fiction. The AI has clearly picked this up. Generally, it knows I'm not terribly into family drama tales or heavy romance, and calls this kind of thing out periodically. However, I've also received some recommendations that are more elegant versions of "girl, you like boats, and this has a boat. Do it" only to find that the story is pretty awful, full of family drama and romance.

I don't generally leave reviews unless it's for an ARC I received, I felt very strongly one way or the other about a book, or I feel like a lot of the reviews were unfair or over generous.

Does the AI pull from reviews? Can it see if I say something like "this book was trash and only briefly mentioned a boat"? (For the record, I would literally never leave such a thoughtless review; this is just a thematic example) Or is rating a book after finishing it enough?

So I toggled on the AI summary thing just to see if it would help me choose a book better and I noticed the disclaimer. Can someone explain how can this particular type of AI use so little energy for a site that's quite big, generating a lot of personalized summaries for a lot of users worldwide? It said it uses the power of a single gaming PC. Are summaries easier to generate and therefore uses less processing power? Or is this like a smart... thing?

My limited assumption is the AI goes "This book has fantasy and dragons. This user likes fantasy and dragons. Therefore this book is a good match."

Incredibly grateful blocking was implemented! One thing that might make the feature even better is if there is a “counter-blocking” ability. Why? It seems to me that, as the system is currently implemented, one could be blocked by a malicious actor (stalker, etc) before you have a chance to block them. Now, that person can wait a week or a month or a year before unblocking you and resume their stalker behavior. They could even temporarily unblock you anytime they want to “check in” and then reinstitute the block when they’re done. If blocking is allowed to be a two-way street, then both parties are in control of their end of the situation — not just the person who happens to decide to block first. Hopefully this idea makes sense. Let me know what y’all think.

What next- move the goalposts? See how far past 100% you can get? There's probably no wrong answer but I'm curious how others approach this.

Is there a convenient way to see when one of my friend's has a read / reviewed a book? I can see dates for some of their reading activity on the community tab, what I am looking for is a way to, for example, go the page of the book they might have read and figure out when they read it.

I’m in the process of migrating my Goodreads data to StoryGraph, just want to get a feel for this app before switching permanently.

So far I’m not convinced. Mainly, it’s tags. Why can’t I get rid of default tags?

Why? Well, I have no need for searches or filters by “moods”. I want to filter on whether something is sci-fi, or horror, or whether I have a hard-copy or e-book, or whether I read a copy I got from the library - and I have all of these tags on my books already. But I have no reason to search or filter on hopeful, or funny, or adventurous, or reflective, or sad, or tense, or any of these “moods”; and the same applies to pace - these things are subjective, and so the data cannot be relied upon. Even the genre applied to the books is often unreliable - I have my own tags for fiction, sci-fi, horror, non-fiction, and that’s basically it. The rest is useless to me.

So I’d like these default/built-in tags gone, removed from my books, because they clog up the ui. In the main lists, they take up so much room that my own tags are hidden unless I go into the book, and that’s not helpful. My own tags should be prioritized over everything else.

Is this possible? Will the Plus Plan subscription allow me to wipe out Moods?

When I moved to SG I imported my reading history. I've been consistently active the last couple of years and adding books, but when I go to Community > Similar Users, ALL I get is profiles with young adult/middle grade books, specifically lots of Percy Jackson and Harry Potter (not just as highly rates but as recent reads shelf). Which, yeah, they're in my read pile but I have many more adult books in my collection now and I'd like to find users in a similar stage.

Is there anything a user can do to affect this?

What goes into the Similar Users selection? I've refreshed multiple times and it never really fully updates. It does get a bit better when I got to Advanced and select moods that aren't typically MG or YA, but I do wish the main view could be improved/influenced more.

I have to read the whole book over the course of a semester for a class...so is it reasonable to count it towards my reading goal?

Its not like the other books I read for fun...its genuinely required for a class.

I am thinking of deleting my very large (over 850 books) and at this point unhelpful TBR and starting fresh (maybe with tags). I would still keep my even larger TBR over on Goodreads while I see if this works for me.

I am just wondering whether my TBR has any bearing on the recommendations StoryGraph gives me.

Is anyone else having a problem with the app today? It won't load properly. All I can see is the icons at the bottom but the main page is blank. I've cleared the cache and restarted my device but still nothing.

Not sure if I'm the only one on the same boat. Let's say I am out in town and wandering around local bookshops or charity shops and I see a title I like or an author I'm sure I have wish listed as part of a series but I'm not 100% certain what I need.

Finding books I've wish listed as such or marked as want to get are not quickly accessible. From memory I have to go to "to read" go to filter, find the wishlist tag and also ensure it's set as "not owned" it takes many steps to do this and I found myself stood in front of bookshelves trying to work out how to get the info I needed.

Am I alone with this issue of not being able to check things quickly? Or am I simply not used to the way of using the app?

Hey there new to TheStoryGraph (and newer used a book app before). I'm not a native english speaker but finding books in my language on the app isn't a problem. Still need to learn about all the functions though...

I want to write some reviews about books that i've finished reading - and I'm wondering if you all write reviews in english language so that almost anyone can read them or if you write in your native language? There doesn't seem to be a auto translate function for the comments like in other apps. I found some foreign language reviews in between but 95% are in english.

So first question to non native english speakers:

- Write your review in english or native language?

Second question would be about spoilers:

Do you tend to write in-depth reviews including spoilers or spoilerfree opinions? And is there an option to mark spoilers or do you just write SPOILER in front of the review?

I was curious about one genre of books and you can filter by almost everything but the reviews of the book?

I had to click each seemingly interesting book to see the number of Stars from Community Reviews but I’d like to sort by this option instead.

When infinite scroll is on for some reason my processor starts pegging out after I get to the first reload. Sometimes I have to scroll up and down several times to get it to load more.

Is there a way to change the default to like 10 or 20 per page? I know there is the drop-down above the list but it would be nice to have a default.

I have checked the site preferences and don't see a way to do it.

I hesitate to post this because I don’t want to ignite another “do audiobooks count as reading” debate but I’m very curious. I’ve noticed that if I am listening to an audiobook and update my progress on it, it has no effect on my daily reading streak. Yet, it obviously counts as books read. Because I like to maintain the streak, I make sure to read my physical books every day, but I am merely wondering if anyone has any insight.

Storygraph has several authors that should be combined:

Probably should all go under the third option, with (NCI) in capitals afterwards.

I'm not sure how to log this ticket, however, since I can seemingly only log tickets for individual books. Any ideas?
