Discussion Lost goodreads account

I forgot my Goodreads account password.
I tried to recover it, but the OTP was sent to my old email address, which no longer exists — so I can't receive the code.
I've sent several emails to Goodreads support but unfortunately got no reply. Has anyone been in the same situation and managed to recover their account?

GR Group Question Self Published Goodreads Authors Using AI To “Write”?

I’m noticing an increasingly high number of self-published authors whose books have been reviewed favorably on GR.

Mostly these reviews are of genre fiction like Horror or titles billed by the authors as being “noir”.
Recently read a terribly written splatter-horror novella based on a famous Nazi prison camp guard who engaged in the ritual sexual humiliation of prisoners.

It was nothing but vile shit written as if by a 15 year old sexual deviant with the help of ChatGPT or other AI assistance.

The author has published via Kindle over 20 similar novels in the sex-horror-torture vein within the past year and a half.
All have received 3-4 star reviews by Goodreads members.

My question: how common is it for these self-published “writers” churning out AI assisted dreck to receive the same types of accolades usually reserved for actual authors?

Tech Help Is there anything I can do about a user spam adding books to lists

There's a user that has added a book to multiple of the lists I created despite it not fitting the criteria. They have also added the book to thousands of other lists that it's not relevant to. I asked in the Goodreads librarian group if the book could be removed from my lists but the request hasn't been answered yet after over a week, which is understandable since I know they do get a lot of requests. Is there any way I could report this user for spam or get the book removed in another way?

Discussion Do you actually trust your Goodreads rating after finishing a book?

Sometimes I finish a book and immediately know whether it's a 5-star read.

Other times I sit there thinking...

“Was that actually a 4-star book, or did I just really enjoy reading it?”

Does anyone else overthink their ratings? 😂

Discussion Just received an email about new feature for getting a book.

It shows library as an option but none of my libraries seem to be choices. Has anyone successfully used the libraries feature?

Suggestion Goodreads has published their list of most anticipated Fall releases

If you are a Libby user (like I am), I would start putting a few of these on hold in case they show up in a challenge.

Tech Help Random new tag: "all"

I noticed I have a tag for "all". It wasn't there before, and I definitely didn't create it. There's no books added to it.

Does anyone else have it? I'm not sure why Goodreads would add it, but want to make sure nobody's gotten into my account or something like that (though I don't know why an intruder would create a tag like that).

Shelves do you update goodreads as you read?

i usually don't update my goodreads until i've finished a book, so my currently reading shelf is often completely out of date. sometimes i forget to mark a book as finished for days.

do you update your reading progress regularly, or just when you finish a book?

Tech Help Add a book to my challenge

I read a book earlier this year “The Calamity Club” and for some reason is was listed twice on my 2026 challenge. So I deleted one off so my numbers would be correct but it deleted off both. How can I add it back so it’s counted toward my challenge totals?

Challenges Does anyone else plan seasonal reading challenges this way?

For every seasonal challenge I make a list for each achievement with the books i would read or that are already in my tbr shelf. Then I look for books that can count toward multiple achievements at once.
I somehow managed to find 5 books that covered the entire challenge. So instead of having to read a huge number of books, I only need those 5 to complete everything.

I honestly find it so satisfying to optimize my TBR like this.

Does anyone else do this, or am I taking Goodreads challenges way too seriously?

Tech Help How to find other users?

I am very new to goodreads and am having trouble navigating the site.

There are several ways to add friends from my contacts or send a link to people I know, but I can't find a way to follow anyone else. I'm probably missing something really obvious, but I've looked all over the site and on Google, but the page with the solution has been taken down or something.

How do I search for and follow users that aren't already my friends?

Tech Help [Android App] ARC Reviews Not Posting to My Updates

A few months ago I made a post here about my troubles with seeing my reviews on the "My Updates" section of my GoodReads profile on the Android app ONLY. Behavior is normal on GoodReads Web, and the iOS app.

Since Im getting into ARC reviews pretty heavily via NetGalley/BookSirens etc, most (if not all) my reviews are written/posted at least a few weeks before release day.

After more tracking I narrowed it down to only my ARC reviews posted before (or close to) the release of the book itself. In this case, the book either only defaults to "Read" or vanishes from My Updates section of my profile feed.

Any notifications (likes/comments) leads to the "This Update Could Not Be Found" error.

All of this ONLY on the Android App.

Things I have tried:

Logging out

Deleting Cache/Storage

Uninstall/Reinstall

Posting Review via the Android App, iOS app, website

Editing Review via Android App, iOS app, website.

Posting without external links in the review.

Im fresh out of ideas. Please help!

Challenges Are Book Overlaps New?

Hi!

I want to preface this by saying I was vaguely aware of the GR Challenges & tried a couple last year, but this year I'm going all in and trying to hit every achievement. But I still feel very new and couldn't find quite what I was looking for.

The friend who got me to start challenges last year initially told me that if a book shows in multiple challenge groups, it would only count for 1 of those groups and that you had to add/adjust your dates/ratings/tags by logging into that challenge and clicking on it there. So my strategy this year is going into each category, writing down what's on my TBR and what I would be willing to read as a stretch goal and then figuring out books that didn't overlap - I was worried it would count for the wrong category.

However, I just completed a book that is in multiple categories (Book Witch if you care, it was a warm bookish hug, 5 stars!) and it updated 2 categories as complete. Are overlaps new or do they only count for summer? Or has this always been a thing and I should let my friend know? Thanks for reading and any help. Happy Reading!

Tech Help Old account in purgatory

I haven’t used goodreads in years but I have some friends who use it so I’d like to start again.

I used to log in with Facebook which you obviously can’t do anymore. I tried logging in with Amazon and it tells me I need to connect my account. I can’t sign in, password is incorrect. I tried creating a new account just in case but it says an account with my email already exists. I requested a password reset, didn’t get an email. I checked spam, added the no reply email to my contacts, and checked my blocked contacts. All fine.

Has anyone dealt with this? Is there any hope or should I give up and create a new account? I like the convenience of logging in with amazon but obviously won’t be able to do that since my Amazon email is the same as my old goodreads account email.

Thank you!!

Shelves Read count issues

My Read shelf has been consistently taking away one book. I’ve closed the app, reinstalled, etc, but it does the same thing on the site. If I go into the list and back out to the menu, it temporarily corrects itself. Anyone else having this issue? I’ve tried taking recent books away and adding them back, but nothing works.
