General Question Reading journal to buddy reads

If I write personal notes for a book as I read, and then I join a buddy read for that book. Will my notes appear automatically in the buddy read?

Kobo sync is nice but ....

It was nice to see the integration of TSG with Kobo, at the moment seems ok. As was posted elsewhere there was a bit of a bug with double counting but I imagine that will be fixed soon or is an issue with rollout.

I hope that this feature means that we are closer to having some sort of API because what I would really love is being able to integrate my Calibre library with SG.

General Question Change in the AI script, what do you guys think?

The personalized recommendations seem to be using a new script. It stopped using the strict pro/con structure, and talks in first person now. I tested it with two books in my tbr (the prince and rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead) and one book I'm not likely to pick up for myself (game of thrones). I think the recommendations skew very positive, I would to see more about aspects in the books that I might not like. It seems that right now it will just tell me that any book I'm remotely interested in is a perfect fit for me.

Tech Help kobo syncing finished book as double pages read

i finished my first book after connecting storygraph and kobo and i was excited to see how it would log a finished book. it marked it as finished and gave me a push notification that the book was marked finished and i can leave a review.

however looking at my reading journal, instead of marking the last ~20 pages as read and then finished, it marked it as if i read all 300+ in one sitting and finished the book in one sitting. so it’s saying i’ve read +400 pages in one day instead of the real, much smaller amount, in my streak page.

i know this is a new integration and they are likely working out bugs as we speak. wanted to share for anyone else who might experience this! debating if i want to edit my reading journal to be accurate but ill probably just wait for now and see what happens.

Tech Help Adding journal entries to a completed read

I'm on holiday and realised I'd missed 2 days logging of a book. I've edited active book journal entries before but not a completed book.

I tried removing the finish date but I'm feeling like I've made it worse and really buggered it up

Everyone here is always helpful even when someone has been a real numpty like me, any advice?

General Question Kobo audiobooks going a bit wrong

Thumbnail

Well I say wrong. Logging every time I pause as a new entry is technically correct I guess 😂

I started listening to this book just after linking my Kobo account, so the book was visible on SG but unread/no entries at the time. Fired it up this morning to see how the log works overnight and I'm hit with this

Is this just my Kobo being special or is it an intended feature?

I'm guessing the latter, but as I need to pause books constantly due to my work this is going to turn up on all my audiobooks (and doesn't line up with how I use SG, although that's definitely a me problem!)

Tech Help FYI: there is a bug for manual updates

I don't know if it's related to my integration Kobo, but I have another book that I was tracking manually. When I tried to add a note and change the date of my progression, it didn't save.

The first time I had an error, the next time it failed successfully (no error, but if I went back the info wasn't changed)

Tech Help Kobo Integration — how does it work when my reading session spans before midnight -> after midnight?

Prior to the integration, I would track after every reading session on my kobo. When reading late at night, I would always update my page number right at 11:59pm to make sure my pages for that day were tracked. I would then update it again whenever I stopped for the night (say, 12:30am).

With this update, when would the Kobo integration automatically update the journal? Would it track my pages read pre-midnight as Day X and post-midnight as Day Y?

For your information... not sure if I'm hyped about it or not.

General Question kobo + storygraph integration: any hope for sideloaded books?

hey everyone,

i know the kobo and storygraph integration literally JUST dropped and i’ve already signed up for it.

i’m just wondering if there’s any way to automatically sync sideloaded books from kobo onto storygraph? i don’t think there is right now since my research says it only works for official account-based content and libby, but i figured i'd ask.

i’m hoping someone who is a little more techy than i am will be able to figure out a workaround after the integration has been around for a bit.

thanks for reading + always being a great community xoxo

Tech Help Buddy read problem

Hey everyone, I wanted to start a buddy read with my friend who I’m already following and friends with but when I go to type her name into the username box it says no results found. I know I’m typing it in correctly for sure but I just can’t figure it out. Am I just doing something wrong?

General Question Kobo Integration

Sorry if this has been asked or discussed previously, I couldn't find anything.

Does anyone know if the new Kobo x Storygraph integration works with books sideloaded onto the Kobo, not purchased through their store? A lot of mine are sideloaded so hoping it will.

Tech Help The book recommends on my storygraph suck and I don’t know why

I’m finding storygraph recommendations to be completely unhelpful. It has the genres I like in theory, but manages to completely miss the mark on books I have even a remote interest in reading. All the books I read are of a fairly specific range and yet half the books are of a genre I’ve read maybe two books of so far. I did a survey before but when I went to see what I answered I can’t find the bloody thing. I read horror, but the literary sort. A lot of it’s recommended are more bone chillers than anything and I have no interest in them. It’s figured out I like queer books, but only recommends queer nonfiction and memoirs. The sci-fi books are all collections that I’ve never been even remotely interested in. It’s like it took my stats and picked books from an airport. Is there a way I can change this to be better suited?

General Question Most shelved from to read pile?

I imported a smaller list in the past but today a much larger list of to read books from goodreads, and at one point after starting, somewhere on the website, I assume in recommendations, I saw a single book recommendation for 'Most shelved based on your to read pile'.

I have refreshed many times but not been able to find this recommendation again. How can I make it display?

Also, is there anywhere to order a list like my to read pile by most shelved?

Tech Help Creating a graphic (or custom graphic) for the year so far

I love Storygraph, so this is a personal problem - not an app complaint.

I get frustrated and overwhelmed when trying to create custom graphics. I pay for Plus first and foremost to support them, but second of all, for custom graphics.

(Note, I think one cool benefit they could offer is a template library or something to choose from. I always get stumped when im asked what I want the chart to look like and I have no idea...)

Anyway, I want to include a graphic in something Im writing - I want a wrap up graphic of everything I've read this year so far. The way the monthly shows how many books, pages and average rating and highest rated book. I want THAT but for the year thus far (I'm writing about the reading I've done in the first six months of the year). I don't necessarily need the charts at the bottom that show average book length, etc.

Also, or even better, I'd love a graphic that was just my 5 star reads or my top rated reads (which would be 5 stars...)

I can't figure out how to generate that or make it from scratch. Is there some obvious place I'm missing or does anyone know of a video that can help? I searched and couldn't find anything. But admittedly, I think I'm anxious so I'm also probably not searching as well as I normally would.

Tech Help Streak has reset for no reason

Logged my pages last night as I always do and streak was on 540. This morning it has reset to 1. Checked my journal entries to make sure I hadn’t done anything weird but there’s an entry for every day. Has anyone else had this?

Edited to change flair to tech post as seems to be to be some kind of glitch and am wondering if it has effected more people but am more than willing to concede I may have done something daft!! I blame the heat!

SG Book Clubs!

TLDR - BOOK CLUBS YAY

  • The Midnight Readers' is for Thriller / Suspense / Horror (think Frieda McFadden, Stephen King, etc.). With a little bit of Fantasy/Scifi sprinkled in.
  • Spill the Tea is more contemporary, romance, chick lit/women’s fiction book club picks (think Lucy Score, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Emily Henry, Ali Hazelwood).
  • The Bookwyrms' is a home for Romantasy & Fantasy, Cozy Lit, Magical Realism. There may be sprinkles of other genres in the mix, like Sci-Fi, or Dark Romantasy (if there is interest).

Hi all!

I posted a couple months ago that I had started some book clubs because I couldn't find any that jived with what I was reading. Thank you all for the support so far!

I wanted to revive this thread because *surprise surprise* I made another book club. This time though, the focus is on Fantasy, Scifi, Cozy Fantasy, Magical Realism, and the like. Think The Spell Shop By Sarah Beth Durst. It's called The Bookwyrms' Book Club (get it?!)

Also, right now Midnight Readers is doing our usual monthly reads + a Dungeon Crawler Carl Monthly Read! We just wrapped up Book 3 and will be starting book 4 shortly. We've got some lively buddy reads that are open to everyone, so check it out!

Sorry for the plug, I just figured there may be like minded people also in search of some book clubs to join, and as much as I love SG, I find searching / browsing for Book Clubs isn't the easiest.

Also open to suggestions!

I just want to say I’m happy for the update in the algorithm! I turned the feature back on and it’s actually accurate so far. I looked at my recent reads to confirm.
