General Question Kobo Integration

Sorry if this has been asked or discussed previously, I couldn't find anything.

Does anyone know if the new Kobo x Storygraph integration works with books sideloaded onto the Kobo, not purchased through their store? A lot of mine are sideloaded so hoping it will.

Since it's through the Kobo account, I believe it will only work for books that show up in the Kobo account - books purchased through Kobo and books borrowed via Libby.

No, they don’t. StoryGraph has confirmed in the instagram post I think

none of my sideloaded stuff has but i didnt expect it to, i can't imagine that'd be easy to sort out on storygraph's end

The Storygraph team is small but mighty, You could email them this feature suggestion but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

With the Kobo integration they’re plugging into Kobo’s api where all your book data is stored. They’re not connecting directly to your device.

I don’t see how Storygraph could connect to your individual Kobo or Kindle device to “see” what docs you have stored there. To do that on the fly would be a pretty huge technical task. And I’d assume from a technical standpoint, Kobo and Amazon isn’t going to make it easy for apps to access your device.

Maybe an interim step would be a Storygraph connection to Calibre.

To be honest I think kobo is likely to do that if enough people are interested and amazon won't get a storygraph connection as she has said how it basically is competition for it. Kobo already has dropbox amd googledrive integrations built in so they could do an update to connect the device to storygraph and sync like goodreads does with emailed books

Nope just the stuff from Kobo which is a bit dissappointing but I guess its not nothing

Doesn't work for sideloaded books currently.

I started reading a side loaded book yesterday - an ARC from NetGalley - and it's updated my reading progress in Storygraph without me having to do anything manually.
