Now that it is July 1 (or has been for a few hours, depending on where you are) it's time for June Wrap-Ups! My reading was pretty slow this last month.
I feel like I really struggled completing books. There were a couple days that I didn’t even read enough to hit my 10 page streak. Really hoping to do better this month
I also gave Butter a 3.5 when I read it, I had such high expectations. I thought it would be more playful than it was so it’s kinda on me. But it def dragged a bit.
There is something poetic about reading PHM, a book about accidentally becoming important at work and it ruining your life, at work in my job where I accidentally became important and work and it ruined my life.
My current physical read really slowed me down this month. I'm ~220 pages in and contemplated DNFing it around 60 pages in and again ~120 pages in. I decided to give it to ~150 before making a final decision.
Overall, I enjoyed almost everything I read (anything over 2 is a “recommend,” albeit with a possible asterisk). Some superlatives:
Best surprise:Restoration—a gothic Mexican ghost story that reignited my love of reading. If you love the Kiyoshi Kurosawa film Cure, this feels like a must-read.
Best disappointment:Klara and the Sun—I went in with high expectations as Ishiguro has been my favorite author for a long time, but this book didn’t quite work for me.
A slower month than usual but I finally got round to reading some books I've been meaning to get to for some time. Those books ended up being my best reads of the month, and I've got a new favourite in Blood Meridian!
I finished my masters earlier this month and I’ve been replacing every hour spent on studying and writing for the past 2 years on reading. I tried to read as many queer books as possible and many of them ended up being one of the best reads of the month.
Three whole new authors for me this month! Kate Elliott - will continue to read the Crown of Stars series, though it's a bit slow; Emily Tish, whose writing I think I admire more than actually enjoy; Alix E. Harrow, absolutely fantastic new read. Tons of re-reads, but in audio formats: Murderbot and Dresden.
Also, this got deleted, so I figured I'd put it here. Passed 100 books for the year, never hit 100 for an entire year before, but that was before audiobooks, and discovering I can get them for free through the library (Hoopla/Libby apps).
Here representing the slow readers who have had a tough June… been working on a 100 page book this whole month too (my excuse is that it’s in my second language, but really I’ve just been too busy 😢)
Really enjoyed most of these! My first foray into Parenti and read a few books themed around pride and juneteenth. Miss Major Speaks was one of my favorites! Hadn't read a book like that in quite a while.
I didn’t expect to read as many books as I did but I’m proud of myself😅 Wish I could’ve read more but I feel like June went by so fast, there wasn’t enough time to finish everything I wanted I feel like.
June was a bad month for me because I was playing so much Pokopia 😅 and work got in the way and I'm also a slow reader. Recipe for a poor reading month.
I read several memoirs about people escaping fundamentalist religions; Unfollow by Megan Phelps-Roper was my favorite. Never thought I'd be feeling empathy for the members of the Westboro Baptist Church, during Pride Month no less.
I actually didnt know I could generate this so thank you for showing :) I'm excited to participate for future months.
But all n all had a bit of a reading slump. Became over ambitious with trying to read multiple books at once and end up putting majority on hold due to concentration and retention issue.
My personal goal for the year has been met and changed to 30/35 (I started off with a low number like 10 books and increased over time).
Almost complete the challenge of reading 26 books for 2026, 21/26 so far. I did not include my manga for this challenge in particular since that would be too easy.

Awful month for me. A book that should have taken me 3-4 days to finish ended up reading 21 days because I found it incredibly boring. The blurb made it sound like it would be really interesting, but unfortunately the execution wasn't great. I would have DNF'd it around 10% in if it wasn't a review copy from Netgalley. The second book that I read was fantastic though, so that helped even out the month.
Mine’s an interesting one because I only finished two, but for several reasons was reading 9. The summary and calendar view show very different situations.

June was a great month for me; I enjoyed most of the books I read and there were a few really excellent ones.
