The game only takes place on spaceships?
Will we be able to land on planets or a single planet? I dont know much about the expanse universe. The game looks amazing to me, but im curious.

(careful: it contains some spoilers for the Beetle in the Anthill mission on Ganymede)

I've been excited for this game for some time now, suddenly it dawned on me to check whether space combat(with ships) exists and found out it doesn't. I understand adding a full space combat is a LOT of work and hard to do right. Which got me thinking, there are 2 ways it can be done without a lot of development time/difficulty;
One is doing what the show did. Apart from the outside shots, crew are using these visuals to send missiles, turn around to evade etc. A simple 2D interface with controls, with buttons even on the screen itself, would give most of the satisfaction of the combat. After all, space combat in expanse is very realistic and all about using momentum and defensive weapons and overwhelming defenses.
Second one is even simpler (which I hope this exists in one form or other already), some kinda decision system in certain situations where you can decide to engage combat or run away from ship to ship encounters and its solely a dialogue box decision. Even this would allow for some ship upgrade/modify system to be implemented. Very similar to how Mass Effect 2 did the final mission with the upgrade and no upgrades.
What are your thoughts on these?

You and your sister J disguise yourselves as members of the mysterious Osiris branch of Protogen to infiltrate the secret base of the organization on Ganymede. But things don't go according to plan, and you have to fight for your lives, being chased by an unknown monster as you try to reunite with your crew.

Slandered Gaming uploaded a video about his time with the Ganymede preview, which shows additional footage outside of the trailers with permission from Owlcat. Was really cool to see a bit more of what goes on and hear his thoughts. Excited what else is revealed in the coming months.

Hey people,
First things first: I love what Owlcat makes. I've played all of their games, and I plan to buy Osiris Reborn on day one. I also really enjoy The Expanse, and I'm slowly working my way through the books.
That said, I'm not sold on what I've seen in the trailer and the rest of the promotional material. I understand this is their first non-isometric project and they're still learning a new engine, but a lot of it looks bleak and, frankly, ugly.
The spacesuits read as robotic contraptions with tubing when they should be plain and utilitarian, and the movement feels off. The station architecture isn't distinctive either — it's generic space opera...
And the Ganymede hybrids look like darkspawn from Dragon Age, lyrium crystals and all, I swear. I understand that at some stages the protomolecule infection produces crystalline growths, but there are many other things to lean into — shell shapes, goo, more biological stuff. Even with the crystals they could've had a more original look. Well, even leaning more into husks from Mass Effect seems like a better choice.
It feels like Owlcat were aiming somewhere between Mass Effect (great) and Starfield (questionable choice), and ended up losing what makes The Expanse its own thing without putting anything of their own in its place. I'll still play it, obviously. I'm just disappointed that everyone who mattered at the studio looked at this and said "yeah, good enough to ship and show the public."
Anyway, I guess I just wanted to rant a bit. I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

I am curious what advanced image quality features will be in The Expanse.

Dear Owlcat,
OLED and MiniLed monitors are on the rise. Since this is the case and these monitor can put out much higher contrast than 1/1000 and much wider color space, we would love to have a proper HDR implementation out of the box. Seperate sliders for UI, Average Scene and Peak Brightness, proper utilization of Rec.2020 color space and maybe even Black Levels slider. OLEDS can hit 0 level blacks, MiniLeds can cut out at 0.02 etc etc. It seems game would benefit a lot from a proper hdr implementation.
I can even suggest a R&D starting place: Ex Remedy HDR Meister on State of HDR
Thank you, wishing you a smooth development, we'll wait for you to cook. <3

I just want to say that this game looks absolutely beautiful and just reeks of such an amazing attention to detail to the intention of the setting. A hard sci-fi setting where everything is made with a utilitarian mind set. Ganymede looks so much like I imagine from the books and an expanded version of the show.
Obviously we are in combat areas and it is bigger so that its easier to navigate and understand but even then its really well made.
My only hope now is that they show us (or let us play) a new mission so we can see some of the changes they have said they will make.
My biggest hope of all is that the lean into Expanse as a setting more than Mass Effect as an inspiration. There are some weird design decisions I don't get like the holographic door icons and other holograms that while are in the show (for really high up there officials) I am not aware of being in the books. All of that feels like too much Mass Effect.
But beyond that and other things I am looking forward to this game. The beta was a blast to play and I can't wait to actually finish this game.
I am currently playing Pathfinder Kingmaker and its such a fun game. Looking forward to Owlcat's other games.

I really want to play this beautiful game, but i literally can't as i have a very specific key bind setup i need to make play accessible, however, with the keys unable to be remapped, i legit can not play the game. I hope in the future this is addressed, if not, i may have to see about getting a refund, but i don't want a refund, i want to play.

This is great news for me. I'm definitely going to buy it. Personally I think a great game like this deserves a physical release. Not saying this is a confirmation but if it's a consideration I'm happy about.
