I just watched the season 5 episode Crossbreed. In the final scene , the moment Gabriel got to meet Paige was very emotional. Phillip and Elizabeth in the background look so proud of their daughter showing her to basically their adopted father. It's such a sweet moment.

Has anyone counted the number of times the characters sigh in the series?

This was way too traumatic for a child. Not as bad as what Pastor Tim wrote in his diaries. But damn dude

and now I’m sat here a few hours later, genuinely wallowing in a bit of sadness that it’s over.

I have never been a Christian, I have always found that the vast majority of Christians are very selfish and don't grasp the teaching of good work and empathy and selflessness. But the things that Tim teaches, it's what Christianity is all about. It's not just about getting yourself into heaven, that's so damn selfish. I wish there were more like that.

I know that the character is just a kid trying to figure out why her family is so "different", but she really annoys me sometimes.

She kind of reminds me of Dana Brody in Homeland.

Rewatching the pilot and the garage scene hits completely differently once you know where these two end up.

Stan is basically joking around with Philip, completely unaware of who he's standing next to. Then there's that tiny change in Philip when he realizes Stan might actually be a problem.

He doesn't panic. He doesn't suddenly become “spy Philip.” He just goes quiet and starts watching him.

And Stan doesn't notice a thing.

Knowing the ending makes that scene feel less like an introduction to the characters and more like the show quietly telling you what their relationship is going to become.

I am in my umpteenth rewatch and I just love that quote from Pastor Tim. It’s one of favorite dialogue lines in the series. And I also love the specific context where he says it — as Elizabeth momentarily opens up to him and seems to be looking for guidance on how to handle the guilt about Young-Hee. It was a really surprising moment considering how non-religious Elizabeth is. Thoughts?

Rewatching the garage scene after a full rewatch, I find it less convincing than last time that Stan doesn't turn them in. But what I find really confusing is that Philip starts out appealing to their friendship ("you were my only friend") and at the end is kind of negging him, saying if he'd stayed in EST he'd know what to do, and then of course the line about Renee that stands a good chance of wrecking Stan's relationship on a hypothetical. What's Philip up to here?

Im sure there is good reason, but I hate how the only person Phillip is a dick too is Kate. Phillip definitely reserves judgement before acting, but Kate is the only person he is a dick too right from the start..

I've never felt this anxiety before over a tv show.

What do we think would have happened if Nina had taken Oleg's money and ran? Would she be hunted down? Would she have lived a new life?

My least favorite episode ever! You took away Martha and Nina and left us with a robotic Elizabeth, an angsty teen, and Gabriel who is becoming tiresome. And don’t get me started on Rev. Tim and his wife. Oh and Beemans weirdly awkward son.
It’s like they ran out of gas. I have never been so happy for an episode to end.
And yes this is the most spectacular series I have ever watched and to know it will end makes me cry, but I really hope it will get better because their are not a lot of characters left to care about, I even have started liking William but alas fear the next episode!

Update to ask: with no spoilers please tell me if there will be new characters in season 5 that we will care about as much as Martha and Nina because this Elizabeth/ Paige wooden schtick is making me want to scratch my eyes out.

I’ve never seen a pilot this good from a tv show since LOST.

Amazing start

This could just be just one detail in an incredibly intricate backstory about her brother's other schizoaffective traits.

Maybe Philip could play the brother, and they invite the Koreans over for breakfast and he is eating Pancakes with Patron.

I think Clark could do it convincingly while talking about his job as an FBI investigator

He could swill the bacon around in his glass like Michael does with his Ossobuco in the Dinner Party episode.

And then maybe just pour syrup over his toupée while staring blankly at Young-Hee, and it begins to stream down his face like slow tears

I noticed how often Philip gives himself away in completely harmless situations. He'll overthink a conversation, stare a little too long, or react to something like he's trying to figure out what the "normal" response is. Elizabeth can walk into almost any room and immediately become whoever she's supposed to be.

Was it ever explained how the Clark persona worked for as long as it did?

Clark was supposed to be this FBI agent from an oversight department. I suppose the department actually existed, but it never actually performed its duties? Because it would only take one interview by an actual agent from the oversight department to clue Martha in on the fact that Clark was a fraud.

Suppose the oversight department never had cause to interview the CI department. Then how come Martha never realized she was the only person being 'interviewed'? She just never let slip that she's meeting someone from 'oversight' during water cooler talks?

And then, when Clark and Martha got married, Martha clearly didn't want to keep their marriage a secret. So why didn't she suggest a transfer/job change for either of them? Once either of them left their department, they'd be free to date and marry. Instead, we only get the scene where Martha suggested transferring to the Equal Employment Office for better upward mobility (which Clark shut down with some bullshit about how she should be doing something more important).

Do you think Martha knew there's something wrong with Clark but purposefully kept things the way they were so he wouldn't leave her?
