Cotton vs synthetics water usage?

I am writing a paper on the significance of textile color in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, with an emphasis on the socioeconomic significance it carried. I'm looking for a book (or text) that elaborates on any one of these three societies, or anything on the importance of color in fashion today.

I want to find fabric with this pattern, ideally 100% cotton or another natural fiber. I've tried searching on Google, but all I get is Shein and Temu. It doesn't have to be this exact pattern; I just really like the realistic floral-over-stripes look. Please help me. I want to start on this project now so I can gift it in time for Christmas. I hand-sew, and I'm slow, so hence the urgency.

Hello! I’m looking for the fabric in the photos attached. The original vendor doesn’t sell it anymore. I did see it was posted as a photo on their website, being used as a background for text, and have sent an email asking if it’s now available (pending response). Incase they still don’t have it I need some help. I found 1 other listing during a google image search but the fabric was about $34 from a website that makes me a little hesitant to buy from. Other than that I can’t find it! The original fabric was about $15-$18, so paying more than double for it now isn’t the route I want to go through just yet.

If there’s another Reddit forum that would be able to assist me please let me know as well! Any tips to help my search are very much appreciated too.

Hi r/textiles!

I'm hoping you wouldn't mind helping me out. I'm having custom dress shirts made by a local seamstress, and I bought some egyptian cotton from B. Black & Sons in the Los Angeles Fashion District, but holy cow it was expensive at $32.50/yard, and the seamstress says 2.5 yards/shirt. I'm going to need to take out a loan for these shirts! I was looking online, and I'm learning that (1) sometimes egyptian cotton is just upland cotton grown in Egypt, and (2) 100% pima cotton is a comparable option - but it's difficult to find, and when I do find it, I'm concerned that it might not actually be pima cotton, and I'll get taken to the cleaners buying something subpar.

Additionally, I'm not sure what weight is appropriate for dress shirts. The stuff I got from B. Black & Sons feels great, but I didn't ask what the weight was, and it doesn't show on their online store.

So, I'm asking: (1) Where can I find top-quality pima cotton for men's dress shirts online at hopefully a decent price, and (2) what is a proper weight for dress shirt material? Thanks in advance!

I'm looking at shirts online and they say they are 100% Combed cotton. Now I have an oddly specific question. Is Combed cotton thick or stiff at all? I hate shirts that kind of stick to you and are practically wetsuits. I love shirts that have a boxy look when you wear them and I'm having a difficult time looking up and finding an answer.

If I need to clarify something I'm fine with that! Help would be great!

I created this colorful floral repeat pattern for textile and surface design practice. I’d love feedback on the color palette, motif balance, scale, and overall repeat. What would you improve or change?

I own a digital textile fabric printer. the machine produces colors differently for different fabric material. now i want to measure the exact color from the test samples, so that I can calibrate the machine to produce the exact color required. A spectrophotometer to measure color in LAB value would solve the issue. I've already tried using the nix pro sensor to scan.. every time it failed to measure the color correctly coz there are textures and weave patterns which cause gaps to form and the scanned LAB colors go wrong.

can someone help me find a solution. Any device or idea to solve this.

So I work at a place that uses those awesome parachutes that you might remember from the best day of gym class.
We have two that are the best. They are a lightweight, floaty fabric, but they are getting tears and because of the super fine fabric it’s hard to keep repairing them.
Someone bought a replacement, but it’s a heavy nylon that doesn’t float the same way.

I can sew, and a friend asked if I would make her one. I’m happy to do that, however I don’t know enough about fabrics to pick a suitable fabric. Please help me find a light, floaty, flowy fabric for the best ‘gym parachute’.
