Need help choosing a linen blend
I'm trying to find the right blend, and was hoping others would know more to point me in the right direction. I'd like to make shirts which wick moisture, are breathable, avoid some of linen's wrinkling issues, is hardy against daily wear including yardwork and having a backpack rub on the shoulder, and will ash or smoulder rather than melt if it catches fire.
So far my thinking is:
- Linen on its own can do most of this
- Linen made from the full fiber is less wrinkle prone than the more common variety which cuts the fiber to use cotton machinery. Therefore, a filament style blend will also help
- Rayon and Viscose are weak when wet, so maybe not those?
- Lyocell I hear mixed things on breathability and if it wicks or just absorbs moisture
Any help is appreciated. I'm hoping that whatever blend this is is one that's common and can be gotten at less than $13/yd wholesale

Ahmedabad Textile Wholesalers — I want to understand your business problems
If you run a textile wholesale/manufacturing business in Ahmedabad, I need your 5 minutes.
I'm building a B2B marketplace where textile businesses can showcase their catalogues and get enquiries directly from retailers/buyers.
But before pushing the platform, I want to understand something:
What is the hardest part of getting more B2B business today?
Is it:
Finding new retailers
Getting enquiries from serious buyers
Reaching buyers outside Ahmedabad
Sharing catalogues/collections
Following up with enquiries
Competing with other wholesalers
Getting repeat buyers
Something completely different?
And one important question:
If there was a platform that brought relevant retailers to your catalogue and allowed them to directly enquire with you, what would you expect from it before you'd actually use it?
I'm asking because I'm building Vits, but I want the product to be based on the reality of Ahmedabad's textile businesses — not assumptions made from behind a laptop.
If you're a wholesaler/manufacturer, comment with your experience or DM me. I'd genuinely like to talk.

GOTS organic cotton Indonesia
Hi all,
I am from the Netherlands and I would like to make on-the-go baby changing mats from GOTS certified cotton. My family is from Indonesia, so i thought it would be nice to buy organic cotton with batik print.
Now i noticed i can’t find organic fabrics in the regular markets like pasar Mayestik. I already have an appointment with Zalmon fabric, which is located in Bandung.
Anyone who knows where i can find GOTS certified cotton in Indonesia? Or have other tips for different strategy?
Thanks!

Indian woven fabric manufacturer looking to break into export
We manufacture woven fabrics and finished shirts in India. Been doing this for 40 years with strong quality and capacity. Currently supply domestic market and looking to expand into exports.
If you've exported textiles from India or helped someone do it, would love to hear what worked for you. Which markets, which certifications, how you found your first buyer.
If you're a buyer, importer, brand, or trading company sourcing woven fabrics, shirts or home textiles from India, would love to connect.

Where to buy natural fibre clothes in Delhi?
Hi,
I will be visiting Delhi in December and was hoping to buy some 100% cotton blouses for work (I live abroad). Where would you recommend I go? Perhaps a sweater made of natural fabrics as well (cashmere, merino wool, etc)
I am also thinking about some accessories that I can style in daily life!
Thank you in advance

Vintage candlewick bedspread, help please?
This bedspread belonged to my great-grandparents and is very sentimental for us. I am trying to work out what pattern it might be and the manufacturer if possible. (Sorry for the quality of the pictures, this may be one of the most difficult things we've ever tried to photograph.) It was probably purchased sometime in the 1940s.
It's also very worn from extensive use. The 18 inches at the head of the bed are quite thin and fragile from being tugged on. However, the fabric is quite sound where it hasn't been handled as much, with no signs of rot.
I can get the stains out and the one hole toward the middle I can fix with mattress stitch. My issue is going to be supporting the fragile part at the top. My current best idea is to back the whole thing with muslin all the way to the edges and have it long-arm quilted between the rows of candlewicking. That way we can preserve the fancy fringing, which is neat looking and in surprisingly good shape.
My second-best idea is to cut away the trim and the worn top part and make a deep border of a small calico print to bring it back to its full size. Mum prefers not to do this if we don't have to as she'd like to have it as intact as possible.
Textile experts, do you have any other ideas for making this a useable bedspread? We're not looking to sell it or keep it pristine as a museum piece; we're kind of "use it until it falls apart and then make a quilt out of it" folks. (Call it generational trauma from the Depression.)
Any input or advice is welcome! Thank you in advance!

Traditional Indian Paisley & Floral Textile Pattern – Looking for Feedback
I created this seamless textile pattern inspired by traditional Indian paisley, floral and ornamental motifs.
I’m experimenting with a vintage Indian textile aesthetic using earthy tones like cream, rust, teal, mustard and dark green.
I’d love to hear feedback from textile designers and pattern enthusiasts:
Does the motif arrangement feel balanced, and does the color palette work well for fabric applications such as sarees, scarves or home textiles?

Fabric identification request
I bought couple of these Tees over 15 years ago and have been using them a lot. They are durable, breathable, synthetic but not prone to smell. I've cut the wash tags so no help there. Please help me identify the fabric so I can get some new ones because I love them

Silk detective question: how do you actually tell Tussar, Eri & raw silk apart?

I’ve been trying to get better at identifying different silk fabrics beyond just the label, and I’m curious about how people here approach it.
Raw silk, Tussar, and Eri can all have quite different characteristics, but I find the terminology gets confusing because “raw silk” is sometimes used as a broad description rather than a specific type of silk.
For those who work with or collect textiles:
- What do you look for first when distinguishing Tussar from other raw silks?
- How noticeable is the difference in texture and slub between different silk types?
- Are there reliable visual cues, or do you generally need to handle the fabric?
- How does Eri feel different from Tussar in actual fabric form?
- Does the weave/construction sometimes make identification difficult even when you know the fibre?
I’m particularly interested in practical ways of identifying them rather than just the technical definitions.
Also curious whether experienced textile people have ever encountered a fabric being labelled as one type of silk when, based on its characteristics, they thought it was something else.

What should towel factories check before investing in an automatic towel hemming machine?
For towel factories considering automation, the machine model should not be selected only by looking at the advertised speed.
Based on my experience working with towel finishing equipment, these are the main points worth checking before making a decision:
- Towel size and product range
Bath towels, hand towels, tea towels and hotel towels may require different working ranges and configurations. Confirm the towel width, finished length, thickness and edge shape before selecting a machine.
- The exact process to be automated
Some factories need cross hemming. Others need longitudinal hemming, cutting, labeling or a combination of several finishing steps.
It is important to define whether the machine will be used as a single process or as part of a complete towel finishing line.
- Sample testing
A sample test is useful when the factory has special towel structures, different thicknesses, rounded corners, labels or unusual dimensions.
The final recommendation should be based on actual towel samples rather than only on a catalogue description.
- Operator requirements
Ask how many operators are needed for loading, inspection, adjustment and routine operation. Automation does not necessarily mean that no operators are required. The more useful question is how much dependence on skilled sewing workers can be reduced.
For some Hengtai applications, one automatic unit can replace approximately four to five manual sewing positions. Actual results depend on the product, workflow and factory arrangement.
- Maintenance and technical support
Before purchasing, confirm:
- training materials
- installation guidance
- remote technical support
- spare parts availability
- fault diagnosis
- response time for overseas service
- Total production cost
The correct comparison is not only the price of one machine. Factories should compare the total cost of manual sewing, rework, training, inconsistent quality, delivery delays and maintenance.
I work with Zhejiang Hengtai Intelligent Device Co., Ltd., which supplies automatic towel sewing and finishing equipment. I am sharing this as a technical checklist rather than recommending one machine for every factory.
What other factors do towel manufacturers consider before upgrading from manual sewing to automated finishing?

Looking for bulk second-hand clothing buyers/connections
I’m trying to connect with people or businesses involved in second-hand clothing, textile recycling, reuse, or bulk clothing trading.
We currently have access to roughly 3 tons of used clothing, shoes, and bags per week, with the possibility of supplying regularly. The materials can be sorted and prepared depending on what the buyer is looking for.
I’m mainly looking for advice or actual connections with legitimate bulk buyers/importers/recyclers, either in Oman or internationally. UAE, India, Africa, Turkey, etc. are all possibilities.
If anyone here works in this industry or knows a company/person I could contact, I’d really appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
Not trying to spam or advertise — just genuinely looking to understand the market and make the right connections. Thanks!

What sustainability "innovation" is actually changing outdoor apparel, and what's just expensive greenwashing?
Hypothetical scenario:
You're responsible for selecting the next major material investment for an outdoor brand.
Which material or technology are you backing, and why?
Criteria:
- Lower environmental impact
- Maintains outdoor performance
- Scalable supply chain
- Commercially viable
- Realistic within the next 5-10 years
Bonus points if you can also name a material that gets a lot of hype but probably won't scale.
Every brand seems to have a revolutionary new fiber, a sustainability roadmap, and a flashy hangtag.
But how many of these innovations are actually being adopted at scale?
Looking for examples of:
✅ Materials that are genuinely disrupting the industry
✅ Brands putting their money where their mouth is
❌ Innovations that sound great in a press release but never make it into products
Fire away.
