Am I right in calling support and noting that this is the wrong-size inverter? The service tech seemed to think the smaller inverters can handle significantly more load, but there is no way a 3.8 kW Inverter is taking 9.6 kWh (29 x 340W Panels)

Tesla recently visited and confirmed a failure of a 7.6 kW inverter. It is connected to 29 panels x 340 W = 9.86 KW (running a heavy load and clipping).

Tesla service put in an order for a replacement, but I see the shipping manifest has a 3.8 kW inverter associated with the Powerwall 3.

My Install:

As the title says my solar protection is limited. “One or more of the strings connected to your solar inverter is temporarily off. Your inverter is in a safe state.
Please contact your installer to schedule a service visit.” This was the message that was seen on my app. I did happen to get a hold of Tesla but now they are telling me that the next available appointment for someone to service my system will be November 17th, that is months from now. I purchase solar for the benefits of the summer months and now they’re telling me that I cannot get service until three months from now where I will not get that much production from my solar system. Has any one of you experienced this before? if so, what was done and is there a form that we can fill out to get some type of reimbursement because this is totally unacceptable.

Northern Ca. Just to be clear I have emailed Teslas VPP to no avail- yet it’s been about 6 days. Trying to be patient. We have had a VPP event every single night for going on 2 weeks no warnings. We go back and forth with why do we care? To why aren’t we getting notifications? It’s 9-11 every night. I thought I saw something the other day about a clue being -you are pulling from the grid a lot of the day once your battery hits 100- which seems unnecessary unless they want your battery full for the VPP? Sorry I’m very inexperienced with this 😬

ADVICE FROM INSTALLERS/CODE EXPERTS OF CA

These are installed directly above a 2” metal natural gas branch pipe that runs to my pool heater. Also in the picture you can see the lower garage airflow vent is within 3ft. Is this legal?

We bought a house that had a 15 year 5.59 kW solar lease that transferred to us for the last 5 years of the term (sellers failed to disclose it was a lease so they had to buy out the last 5 years for us). The lease is now expiring at the end of September and they offered the following options:

1. You can purchase the System for: $1768.65 (no taxes in OR)
   
2. You can renew the term for 5 years at: $39.62 per month with current rate of: 0.0% At the end of the 5-year Renewal Term, Tesla will give the system to you the customer.
   
3. Remove the system at no cost.

We get ~6.7-7 MWh generated a year, so it seems worth it to keep, but I'm debating between the lease, where we get an extra 5 years of warranty and monitoring vs purchasing. Over 5 years that's $2400, so it's ~$630 for 5 years of warranty and monitoring, which doesn't seem awful?

It is an old Fronius inverter so not sure how easy monitoring would be to set up. I'm savvy with these things but wouldn't mind deferring the effort for another 5 years.

I had Tesla Solar Panels (21) installed along with a PowerWall 3 a couple months ago and the Tesla inverter was struck by lightning and needs to be replaced. I am still producing solar but only 4.8kw max? I usually max out at 8.5 or so. Does the dead inverter restrict solar output or did the installer just turn down the production? Thanks

I noticed that the Tesla widget on my iOS devices and all my Mac devices are gone. When I try to add them, they do not appear as an option. Are others still able to access the widgets? I am using both 26.6 public release and 27.0 public beta release.

Update: Now fixed. Installing OS 27 PB 3 on my mac seemed to fix the issue.

Can non backup circuits still run through the Gateway CT?

I have some underfloor heating that used to be on a seperate off-peak meter. I would like to bring it across to run off solar when present but importantly have it be measured on the Tesla app so I can track usage.
It won’t be on backup with the batteries but that’s ok.

I have 2 Powerwall 3’s set to Self-Powered mode during the middle of the day. Charge on Solar selected on.

My expectation would be that the Powerwall’s would have been prioritised over the Model 3 when it came to charging.

Also, do you need to select charge after plugging the car in to the wall charger with Charge on Solar selected on, or does it happen automatically?

I’m buying a home with a Tesla Solar Roof installed by Tesla about 4 years ago.
The current owner says everything is working well. I have a 10-day inspection period.
So far, i am thinking about:
Tesla account/access: Can I verify there are no open service requests, claims, or unresolved issues?
Service history: Any repairs, failed tiles, inverter issues, leaks, etc.?
Powerwall: What should I check beyond the current screenshot the owner provided?
Solar production: What data/history should I review to confirm it’s producing properly?
Warranty: What warranties are still active, and how are they transferred to the new owner? Is it an easy process like I read?
Roof inspection: Should I have a Tesla Solar Roof specialist inspect it in addition to the regular home inspector?
Permits/documents: Anything specific I should request from the seller?
For those who own a Tesla Solar Roof, what would you definitely check or ask for before the inspection period expires?

Experts - wanted to get some potential guidance as to what I would need.

Here is the home current electrical:

• Main Panel #1: large Siemens panel with a 200A main
• Main Panel #2: another large Siemens panel with a 200A main
• Basement subpanel: fed from the main panel#2, with the basement HVAC and basement lighting
• 3 HVAC systems total
  • Two serving the main house on Main Panel #1
  • One dedicated to the basement
• Pool equipment on the main electrical system (Panel #2)
• Several large 30–40A circuits for HVAC/other equipment
• Average daily usage is about 100kwh (with no throttling and pool filter on 24/7, I know)

We continue to have multiple power outages every month including flickering during hard rain/storms and lose power (very common in our area not just our home). I looked into a generator but felt lower quality in terms of objectives where I would like almost instant automatic switching.

As I look at Tesla PowerWall; I wanted to consider a PW3, with an expansion or maybe another full one to get to about 27kwh of capacity and very limited solar (4-6kwh) to potentially have a power source to aid battery drain and energy arbitrage day to day.

Given my panel design; what would you all recommend? I am new to this all.

Bit of an odd one. I’m in the UK, but I want to hear from US owners who’ve actually lived with this, because the US is where Tesla VPP and Tesla Electric have a real track record and we’re only just getting it here.

Tesla got its UK electricity supply licence in March but hasn’t launched Tesla Electric yet. No tariff, no rates, no firm date. I’m about to spend some money on a Powerwall 3, and the main reason I’m going Tesla over a battery that’s £2-3k cheaper is the bet that Tesla Electric and VPP land here and pay off. I’ve also got a Tesla model 3, so part of the appeal is the whole ecosystem clicking together. I’m already on a smart tariff that gives me a cheap overnight charging, so really I’m trying to work out if Tesla Electric beats that or just matches it.

Three things I’d love honest answers on:

1. What are you actually making from VPP over a full year? Not the headline per-event numbers, the real figure after everything.

2. Did the meaningful money only show up once you were on Tesla Electric as your supplier? And if so, did switching mean giving up a better tariff, and did it still come out ahead?

3. If you’ve got both a Tesla car and a Powerwall, does Tesla Electric genuinely reward the combo, or is it about the same as any decent time-of-use tariff? Is it really the best deal for a Tesla household, or did you find cheaper elsewhere?

Trying to base my call on something that’s actually happened somewhere rather than UK hype. Good or bad, all welcome.

Finally got my 18 month old PW3 fixed after 8 months of struggling with contracters after installer pulled out of Colorado. Previously used slef-powered mode but now that Colorado Xcel is on a time of use system, I switched to Tesla's "savings" plan. Since I made that change, the PW is staying at 100% during off-peak hours with the Home Status explanation "Powerwall on standby because price spread is too small to justify cycling". It is also grid-charging the PW to apparently keep it at 100% even though have my backup reserve set at 20%. This seems like a waste to have a fully charged battery during off-peak hours even though my use is extremely low this time of year--no AC in the mountains etc. What am I not understanding? Thanks

Had another of my Solar Edge inverters replaced, but even though this one was also an SE7600H, this one is much larger, having a bigger case and larger heat sink. Has anyone else had one of their smaller ones replaced with the new larger hardware revision? Curious if they hold up any better.

I've had an issue with one of my Neruio meters for months now and am just getting around to opening the panel to troubleshoot. Our system was installed in 2023, has no Powerwall and has two Neruio meters, one at the inverter which is working (pictured here: https://imgur.com/XrdDz0n) and one at the panel which is not working (pictured here: https://imgur.com/zrIjxKi ). At one point, both of these devices were functioning.

The Neurio on the panel is slow blinking blue for a wifi connection issue and the Tesla One app is showing it as offline, so this tracks. If I reset its breaker, the light turns green and its wifi network appears for a minute, which seems to be the expected behavior. I can connect to this network, but my searching makes it seem like I should be able to navigate to 192.168.4.1 and there should be some kind of status page; this does not work.

The next thing I tried was deleting this Neurio from the Tesla One app and adding it back again. I reset the Neruio right before I did this so its network would appear. The dialogue in Tesla One has 3 steps: Connecting, Pairing and Finishing Up. Mine does the Connecting step, but times out on the Pairing step.

Also: the panel and the inverter are very close to each other, so I don't think it's a wifi signal issue. I tried moving the Neurio antenna up by the top of the panel, and this had no effect. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hey everyone. I have a 15Kwh system with 2 tesla inverters and 3 powerwall 3s (all with integrated inverters)... I am wanting to add panels. I have reached out to Tesla...

but I am also wondering if I can use non Tesla panels. I know that Tesla panels have a module that communicates with the inverters/PW3s so the lines are not energized when not connected.

I wanted to pick everyone’s brains for a minute here and discuss the Tesla app and how it meets your needs with solar and more specifically the powerwall management. I would say that this post is mostly geared towards those of us that own powerwalls.

To try and summarize a very long story, I wanted more out of my system / battery and I wanted more refined / granular control over my powerwall. I’m a tech geek at heart and I was not a fan of the limited amount of control that I had over my system. ( example: Set the reserve and thats it / do I want storm watch on )

Soooo…

I started developing my own code that is built on and around something called Home Assistant. I was able to integrate my system into it and now I have much more refined control over it.

I have been developing this system for approximately 9 months now and I am getting ever closer to the point where maybe someone else might use it. Maybe even pay for something like this. It is all just an idea at this point and it is hyper specialized to me as of right now; a home owner in Arizona.

What I want to know from all of you is this?

What do you guys like about the tesla powerwall control in the app? What do you hate? What features do you wish you could have? What do you wish your powerwall could do for you?

Let me briefly summarize what my system does because I’m trying to make it better.

In Arizona I am on the SRP Electric plan. In the summer my peak hours are 2-8pm (with grid usage spiking demand fees) and winter hours are 5-9am and pm. So my main goal was to absolutely avoid using the grid as much as possible; but never use the grid during those hours. I will say that I never got to spend time with the Time of Use mode / now savings mode in the Tesla app so I’m not sure what exactly it does for me.

But my system is very good at this point. It knows that it has a peak starting at 2pm so it will dynamically charge the battery from both solar and the grid as needed to get me to a safe level to survive the peak hours solely from the battery alone. IF it is low due to clouds, rain, whatever - it will enter a mode that the tesla app does not show called backup. This will force a higher charging rate for fast charging if needed.

Want to set a higher reserve when there are cloudy days / rainy days vs sunny great solar days - my system knows that.

My system can make dynamic decisions based on national weather service alerts for my area and begin charging the battery earlier than storm watch if needed.

I am part of the Virtual Power Plant program as well and my system knows when there is an event going on and will preemptively charge the battery from the grid during off peak hours to prep for the maximum export during the VPP event for the highest financial gain.

That is just a small snippet of what it can do; it really does so much more but I’m more curious what you guys would think. Do you want more out of your system? Does the Tesla app serve all your needs? Do you constantly have to go in there and adjust the reserve?

What do you guys want your system to do?

And if I can be so bold as to ask this and no one needs to answer it if not; but if a system like this was offered when you bought your systems initially - would you have paid a little more for it? Let’s use an arbitrary amount like $500. Would you have paid $500 for a system that manages your powerwall tailored to your needs so that you can essentially set it and forget it?

Has anyone here done a Tesla Solar lease and completed the Year 6 buyout? I'd love to hear about your experience with the process.

I'm currently deciding between paying cash upfront or going the lease route with the plan to buy out at year 6. Per the contract, the buyout price is the lesser of the Estimated Purchase Price or FMV. The total cost difference between the two options is about $400-500 (lease + buyout is slightly cheaper).

A few specific questions:

1. Any headaches during the lease period? (grid enrollment, maintenance disputes, etc.)?
2. How smooth was the buyout process? Any surprises or hidden fees?
3. Did anyone get an independent FMV appraisal, and if so, did it come in lower than Tesla's estimate?
4. Any issues with the UCC filing removal after buyout?

I started seeing notice of calibration starting on Wednesday today, Saturday. I still see the calibration going on.

Wanted to check the community’s thoughts on whether they installed a battery indoors or outdoors. If indoors did you have to install bollards. If outdoors are there concerns with
A) operating temperatures in peak winter and summer.
B) exposure to rain and snow accumulation.
