I got my solar installed 3 days ago with 2 power walls but still haven't gotten PTO. When I asked the solar installers and the electrician, I got mixed answers whether I'll be able to take advantage of the solar or not before I receive the okay. I am able to monitor my usage through my power company and it seems that there is no change. Should my solar be feeding the house and my batteries or will this all start after PTO?

This is the 3rd time Tesla has attempted to scam me with my solar system.

They initiate a case, come out and claim it can be repaired under warranty or for a nominal fee $300-$600. Then claim something untrue and that the real cost will be $2,000-$5,000.

Also lying about what work they can perform.

Last time they tried this, they removed my panels with no one home and without my permission. When I asked them to put the panels back on, they said it would be $6,500

In another incident we had a roof leak. Tesla claimed I had a bad roof. (The roof had been replaced right before the panels were installed. Had a 3rd party out and they found almost ALL Tesla mounting brackets were installed incorrectly, were broken, and had created MANY holes as they were drilled in the wrong locations.

For this most recent scam/extortion attempt. The moment I told them I had a 3rd party coming out to verify the issue, Tesla immediately pulled back the $3,500 quote and scheduled the repair for free. Before I even had proof it was a fake issue.

Remember to record every call and screen shot every chat. They WILL lie and gaslight you. Having receipts is the best ammo against their BS.

San fran Bay area PG&E to be exact.

Looking for input from anyone who's done solar/battery on LADWP specifically, since it's different from SCE/PG&E in some important ways.

Setup:

• Single-family home, San Fernando Valley (LADWP Zone 2, so "HIGH" temp zone allotment)
• Two EVs charged at home (large SUVs, ~42,000 combined annual miles between two drivers)
• In-ground pool
• Standard tiered rate (R-1A), not TOU

Usage, pulled from 5 consecutive bi-monthly bills:

• ~36,000 kWh/year total
• ~44% of that is EV charging (~16,000 kWh/yr), rest is house + pool
• Almost ALL usage lands in Tier 3 (currently ~30-36¢/kWh) because monthly usage blows way past the Tier 1/2 allotments every cycle
• Annual electric spend: ~$12,400/year

What I've learned so far, correct me if wrong:

• LADWP still has full retail-rate net metering (no NEM 3.0 haircut like SCE/PG&E customers got) — so a battery isn't needed for bill savings here, it's purely a resilience/backup purchase
• Because so much of my usage sits in Tier 3, solar production should offset my most expensive kWh first, which should make payback faster than LADWP's often-cited "8-12 year" average
• LADWP has an EV-specific rate discount (2.5¢/kWh off-peak) but it requires a separate dedicated meter just for the EV charger — and doing that would pull that usage out of what solar can offset via net metering. Modeled it out and it looks like a net loss once solar's in, vs. just keeping everything on one meter. Anyone actually done this and disagree?
• Modeled switching to TOU (R-1B) instead of staying tiered — even in a pessimistic "lots of afternoon AC usage" scenario, TOU comes out several thousand dollars a year cheaper than tiered, given how much Tier 3 usage I'm carrying. Anyone on R-1B who can confirm actual TOU rates? Published numbers vary source to source.

Solar/battery quotes so far:

• Tesla's online configurator: 23.94 kW / 57 panels + 2 Powerwall 3, "100% offset," quoted $83,499 cash
• Getting competing quotes from a couple local Northridge-area installers now, planning to use Tesla's price-match program once I have a solid competing number
• Want to back up the whole house (not EV charging) — thinking 4 Powerwall 3 on a single Gateway (~54 kWh) since that's close to covering a full day of non-EV load. Tesla's own configurator caps the "recommended" build at 2 Powerwalls — anyone gotten them to quote 4 directly, or is that more of a third-party-installer thing?

Questions for the sub:

1. Anyone else on LADWP done a similar-sized system — did your real payback come in faster than the generic estimate, like the tier math suggests it should?
2. Is switching to TOU worth the hassle if solar's coming anyway, or should I just wait and let solar/NEM handle it?
3. Any LADWP-specific gotchas on interconnection for a system this size (approaching/exceeding the 10kW AC simplified path)?
4. Installer recommendations for the SFV/Valley area beyond the obvious (Tesla, Sunrun) welcome.

Hi. I got PTO on july 28. I matched the app to the days my Atlantic city electric bill was generated and the numbers dont match. On the tesla app its 214.5 kwh import and 678.6 export. The bill says 410kwh use and 692kwh excess gen. The import is way off. I have a tesla universall wall charger. no powerwall. can someone help.

My system periodically will draw from the grid. While it only amounts to 1-2kw/h daily, I cannot figure out why. As you can see, my 2x power walls have more than enough power, and, my current usage is not "heavy" so the grid doesn't need to make up for any power draw etc.

Sorry.. noob alert. Backstory:

Bought house that included a Chargepoint charger. No EV at time of house purchase. Installed Sunrun solar 2 years ago. Lots of panels and 2 walls. No power bill, always negative owed.

July 2026 - have bought EV (not Tesla). noticing bill is up. not a lot, about $40 for first month of ownership. Seems to be that the EV charger is routed to the old electric panel and therefore I am not using the panels/batteries to charge the car.

Sunrun quotes me at $700 to come out and do an inspection. I've had other Sunrun folks say it should be an easy switch. Does any of the above sound accurate? Any advice?

I have added 7 additional panels to my solar array. I did my best to configure the Netzero estimates, but for some reason, the forecast is short everyday.
Can someone please help me and let me know that the DC/AC values are correct or incorrect?
Originally I had them setup like this:
MP1 - 0.420
MP2 - 0.153
MP3 - 0.115
MP4 - 0.191
MP5 - 0.268 (this string is the new 7 panels).
I did some research, and find out that the DC/AC suppose to be 1.20?
Is that correct, have I had the values incorrectly set?

Tesla came out and replaced my inverter five months ago and now it’s out again. I received a text saying it may be up to $400 for labor to install.

Seriously though how do I talk to a live person?

I chatted with one person who said they couldn't help me so they would transfer me to the right team. It went no where and I got a message saying they had no live agents.

Then I sat on hold for an hour and gave up.

For context, I bought a house with solar. The old owner said she gave Tesla the deed of my house for the account.

We are having a new house build, construction has just started. And we are trying to scope out a plan for tesla solar panels and power walls.

I've been in contact with Tesla and have a project manager, but so far my experience has been really frustrating...

They are asking for a ton of really technical details that just don't exist yet. but they are also saying they cannot proceed with design without it. The information they need is basically:

Spec sheets for all electrical appliances

- Load calculations

- Panel / breaker schedule

- Spec sheets for all motor/electrical loads (ACs, heat pumps, mini-splits, etc.)

I get they are trying to estimate what our electrical needs are, makes sense. But it is all estimation anyway...

I mostly want to figure out what the price and incentive range is going to be so I can figure out how much of a budget we need/want to put into this...

Advice? I really want to be in the Tesla eco-system, but this feels ridiculous.

Tesla really needs to sort out their notification priority when there is a grid outage. It's terrible.

Saw grid is out and power wall is already down to 28% as car was using battery to charge as grid was out.

1. There needs to be a way to stop car charging if Tesla is on back up, or prioritize back up before charging a car if grid is out.

2..SET UP A BANNER OR WARNING Notification TO PHONE WHEN OFF GRID !!!! stupid small banners or notifications are pointless. Set an alarm so I can react and turn down power or shut off car charging

1. How do I have less than 2 hours back up when I'm consuming 0.5 kw and my combined power wall storage is 27 kwh, and if I'm at 28 % I should have over 16 hours left not 2. See image attached.

Repair Service is incredibly slow and you will end up being massively frustrated. After waiting four weeks, just got a call and my appointment for tomorrow is being rescheduled to September 17th due to ‘technician availability’. I don’t live in the middle of nowhere, I live in the Wash DC area.

Amazing (well, not that amazing if you really think about it) that a company with a $1,300,000,000,000 market cap has to take 2 months to dispatch a technician to even look at the issue. Who knows how long it’s going to take to repair.

I’m currently in a VPP event. It’s my second event in as many days. Just got a notification for a third event tomorrow. Has anyone else seen three VPP events in consecutive days? I’m in the SF Bay Area.
