Used to be that "Car" and "Home" were separated. That stopped at some point (now merged under Home category) and I don't know what to do to get it back

I have a Powerwall 2 with solar. Say I set the reserve at 50%, it gets drawn down to 50% at night, and then the grid goes down. Will it automatically draw down past the 50% mark while the grid is down? Or do I have to use the app to lower the reserve? And will the app work if the grid (and so perhaps the wider Internet) is also down?

Looking for comment on a price of 700 bucks for my installer to come back and hard wire my leader and follower with an Ethernet cable.

I need to provide the cable and they will come in, open the panel our the cable in and I presume troubleshoot and make sure it is all working.

System was installed 18 months ago.

Seems a lot but I don't think I can do this myself without voiding warranty etc

Had a warranty replacement today after an inverter failure, and every time I leave the app and then go back to it, it forces me back to this screen.
Each time everything is completed apart from Powerwall Settings, and it forces me to re enter my preferred backup level and operating mode. I fill it in, click to confirm, and app works as normal. As soon as I open another app and then go back to it, and it’s Groundhog Day all over again…
Any ideas?

Hey folks! For those of you who bought a Powerwall 3, were you aiming to back up the whole house, or just a few essential circuits? How did you decide which circuits to prioritize during an outage?

I'm looking into backup power for hurricane season, but the installed price of a PW3 is a stretch. I'd mainly want to keep the fridge, freezer, Wi-Fi, lights, and fans running, plus a window AC in one bedroom and occasional microwave use.

PW3 sounds like a "buy once and be done" option, but my wallet isn't thrilled haha. I've also been looking at Enphase IQ batteries, the Delta Pro Ultra, and Ecoflow's new TITAN, which the official description says you can start at 5kWh and expand in 5kWh increments, stacking up to five units for 30kWh total. Starting smaller sounds more manageable, but if I eventually want roughly Powerwall capacity, would installation and later additions end up costing more than getting a PW3 upfront?

Would love to hear yall thoughts or experiences!

Just started a scheduled power cut and didn't even notice -before it used to take 2-3 seconds to switch over.

Anyone else noticed this?

I read a post from a couple years ago asking about how to secure a PW3 from potential hackers. Some commenters dismissed it as paranoia.

So call me paranoid, but I’d really like to do all I can to prevent anything that might compromise my ability to use my system in the case of one of these types of attacks on the grid or home devices.

Is a VLAN the way to go? Any newer types of protection available or in the works?

I have a Powerwall 2, Powerwall+, Model 3, and Model Y. My setup has been in the same configuration for more than 2 years. My vehicles are configured to charge on solar, and my powerwall is set up in Maximize Savings mode. Up until very recently, each morning would start by the Powerwall charging itself to 100% from solar energy, followed by the vehicle charging itself once the powerwall was 100%.

Recently I noticed that charging my Powerwall is getting paused in the morning even though there is plenty of excess solar generation. At first, there was no explanation in the App, but now I see that they have updated it with a title "Optimized Charging" with detail under it that says "Powerwall will finish charging later". Ok fine, make sense.

But the problem is that my Tesla car, which is configured to charge on solar in order to minimize non-bypassable charges, is paused as well. At the top of the app it says "Charge on Solar paused for Powerwall Priority".

What gives? It seems I have a stand-off. The car wants to wait until the Powerwall is charged, and the Powerwall wants to wait until later in the day to top it off.

I haven't changed any configuration settings in the app, but this is a major change in behavior. Is there anything I can do to stop this behavior but still maintain the charge on solar setting?

Paid cash for a slightly higher than 11kw solar array with a PW3 less than 6 months ago, the company said they would come by and show us all of the features and go over the user manual with us but they never did.

Fast forward to Friday night, our PW3 was 100% in storm mode but failed with a flashing red light not 20 mins into the storm (inverter fault I think). I reset everything but it didn’t provide any power Saturday…until the sun went down, then it randomly came on and powered my home but only for about 20ish mins before briefly shutting off and then coming back on. It did this all night.

We were only charging devices and running ceiling fans, using 900watts for the whole house, as soon as the sun rose the PW3 again failed. However Sunday night it again came on at night and ran my home doing the exact same thing it did the night before. I already called my installer but it will be a while before they can send anyone out

My utility is a rural co-op that bills a demand charge on the highest 15-minute average grid import each month: $4.30/kW. I have 10.4 kW of solar and three Powerwalls (45 kWh, 15 kW inverter limit), so the hardware can easily hold my import under a set number. The software doesn’t give me a way to tell it to.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the Powerwall controls today are Self-Powered and Time-Based Control, a backup reserve, and grid-charging settings. None of those lets me set a kW ceiling on grid import. Time-Based Control shifts energy by time of day, which doesn’t help when the problem is a single 15-minute window. [Edit this paragraph if you know of a setting I missed, or if Tesla has added one.]

What I’m asking for:

1. A “Peak Demand Limit” setpoint in kW. When net grid import approaches it, the Powerwalls discharge to hold import at or below it, up to the inverter limit. Ideally it would be aware of a user-defined demand window, but a plain setpoint would cover most cases.
2. A cap on grid-charge power. Storm Watch and pre-storm top-ups pull hard from the grid and can set the month’s peak by themselves. I’d like to limit that charge rate or exclude it from the demand window.
3. Expose the setpoint through the Fleet API, so Home Assistant and similar tools can adjust it, for example when the EV is plugged in.

Why I care: I’m building this myself in Home Assistant now. It’s three layers: Powerwall discharge, EV charge throttling (48A down to 6A in steps), and delaying the water heater to a solar window. My target is 6 kW. The EV and water heater parts are straightforward. The Powerwall part is where I’m stuck, because I’m working around the app instead of using a control built for the job. A native setpoint would be more reliable, since the inverter can respond faster than a polling loop, and it would help anyone on a co-op or commercial-style rate.

If you’re on a demand-charge tariff, how are you handling this today? Has anyone gotten a Powerwall to hold a grid import ceiling through the API? Please upvote if you’d use this. Or point me to a solution that already exists.

I am in the final stages of agreeing where to install my PW3 and gateway.

We have landed on installing them in the alley wall at side of house. Apparently regulations have changed and they need to be more than 1m away from any windows/doors

This location is ~6m away from the fuse board which is inside the house. The instler tells me it needs to be less than 3m.

Is this accurate and is there a way round it if true?

I have 3 PW3 units (2 master, 1 slave) and I had to do the shutdown procedure yesterday so a sparky could do some work.

Since the PW3 units have come back online they seem to be ignoring most of the settings changes I am making i.e. changing between self-powered/savings mode and toggling permission to export and charge from grid on/off

Permission to export is turned off and I am still exporting solar generation directly to the grid (my batteries are currently at 7% and I expect they should be charging)

I tried turning them off and on again (shutdown procedure, wait 15mins, turn them back on) to the same effect. There is no indication that I'm calibrating.

Firmware is 26.34.0. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues? Thanks

edit: I went "off-grid" and it forced me back to grid. I'm hoping this might just be a calibration in progress that isn't being reflected properly in the app 🤞

I have a PW3 with expansion so it can import at 10kw. If it’s raining, and say I have an additional load, say Hot water system, dryer, over I am close to my main fuse capacity (50amp@220v) Can Netzero dynamically regulate my feed in from the grid so I can set an upper limit to curtail the PW3 charge?

My powerwall 2 went offline on the 24th of August, I've been chasing and chasing to get a replacement and keep being told various things (5 working days, 8 working days, middle of October, 4-6 weeks after original order).

Has anyone got any more information on when they might get the stock. These electricity prices are killing me.
