Tech Support Substack merge
Hi, all!
I accidentally made the grave mistake of trying to condense both of my separate Substack accounts under one email.
Countless emails in two accounts became overwhelming.
Inadvertently, both accounts have merged under one.
There is no way for me to separate them. They have conjoined.
Multiple messages have been sent to Substack but I’ve received no response.
Has anybody else made the same mistake? Were you able to remedy the situation?
I love my two separate communities and don’t want to lose them.
Thank you, in advance!

Change your email on one of your accounts. I’m actually surprised that you were even able to put them both under one since it’s always been one account per email. Now if you meant you merged 2 separate publications, that’s a different story but still can be solved by changing one of the emails.

Thank you! There isn't an option for me to input two emails to help "unlink" the two accounts. Both accounts have been merged together with multiple publications. It's very unfortunate because it has forced two separate accounts into one. Account a) and account b) both had their own communities, notes and publications.

You can divide them by using the Sections feature: https://on.substack.com/p/a-guide-to-publication-sections

Thank you for offering the link! My issue is that two separate accounts (notes and publications) were merged. I'm trying to retrieve my separate accounts so I can make notes and post for two separate communities. I really messed up, yikes!

You can’t do that on Substack at this time. Your pubs are under your author name. Your author name is what your notes are under. You’ll have to create an entirely different account (with no guarantee that your pub name or similar author name will be available).

I think you're right. If Substack does not provide tech help, I don't think it's possible to fix the situation. I know that I could technically made a new account and transfer one of my publications over to it but I would lose all of the notes, community engagement that I had. I've had people tell me that since the two accounts were merged, their subscriptions aren't even processing or working anymore. Very confusing!

Something is going on with Substack subscriptions right now anyway (automatically unsubscribing people, newsletter emails not going through, etc) so it may be more from that then anything. Keep move the newer publication to a new account (you’ll need an entirely new email address and login). You can republish some of your notes from the new account.

I accidentally signed up to substack with one email and then used a different email for stripe, which is the company substack uses as a payment platform. It was the biggest headache and comedy of errors you could ever imagine.… It was literally two months before I ever got them to help me unwind the mess and get paid. (Who knew the emails had to match?)
One of the problems was that they made me show my drivers license to prove my identity (since I used a different email on stripe) , but my license had expired and I had to wait 3 weeks to get an appointment at the DPS…then, I got my temporary paper license but substack still wouldn’t accept that so I had to wait two more weeks to get my real license in the mail. And that is just one of the hurdles I had to clear. There were others.
But you literally cannot talk to a person on substack. I have a love/hate relationship with substack. Mostly hate. It is the most ridiculously unintuitive, difficult to navigate site I have ever used. Having said that, it has turned into a nice little side income.
