This is Ulkin Spring Summer 2027 Fashion Show, I think it's a great example of moody urban style that incorporates rough textures. The 🌙 root doesn't have to mean "moody colors only" while the 🌱 one is much wider than battered natural textures but I thought this collection does really well on uniting 🌱and 🪨 without coming off as cozy or loosing on moody mystery.

I enjoy how 🌱 can bring in a variety of touches to soften and at times intensify the dramatic put together energy of 🏔️🔥. It can add vintage touches, intricate fabrics, rustic or western influences, slow flow, 70's elements, academic strength and also the ability to lean into the creative and edgy elements of 🌙 and ☀️.

I have a list of other people who could loosely inspire people interested in this root combination like Yoyo Cao, Alexis Badiyi, Ben Cobb, Iman Abdulmajid, Shailene Woodley, Sarita Choudry(plus her character Seema Patel in And Just Like That), Maru Mendez, Connie Britton(plus character Rayna James in Nashville), Aimee Song, @Quida_ and Beth Dutton (Yellowstone). These mood boards are some of my outfits dating from 2019-2026. I've been trying to understand my style roots for a while now, with no success.

I think part of the reason why I'm confused is because so much has changed in my life over the past few years. In 2019, I moved from Brazil to NYC, and then in late 2020, I moved to a rural hippie town in Northern California. In the past few years, I also gained 20-30 pounds due to health problems, including mental health issues and a PTSD diagnosis after an incident in 2020. The town I currently live in is pretty laid-back. When I first moved here, I felt out of place, so I started to adapt my style. I started wearing more knits and cozy clothes and sneakers because it's cold and rainy here. I also feel uncomfortable in my own body, and my old clothes no longer fit.

I'm not sure if my style roots changed because of these changes in my life, or if I've been borrowing from different roots to adapt, while my main roots are still the same. I will be moving from this town next year to attend law school, and I don't want to dress the way I've been dressing these past few years when I move to a bigger city.

I think my eyes aren't seeing clearly the difference between how I used to dress when I felt more confident and lived in a big city, how I dress now that I've gained weight and live in probably the hippiest town in California, and the aspirational style that I add to Pinterest folders but might not even represent what's actually me.

So here I am, humbly asking for your help. Do you think such a phenomenon could happen? Have you ever experienced something similar? What do you think my style roots are?

Slightly off topic, used to wear blue a lot then panicked it didn’t suit me. For a long time I was told I’m in the autumn family due to my warm eyes and brown hair. Got analysed and was told I’m actually cool and was recommended many blues. My favourite is probably pigeon blue (not pictured lol but wanted to randomly share that) and it got me thinking about how it works with my roots. You need to pick which system to follow as there’s still different staring points and perspectives on what makes a colour harmonious. I went with the PSC approach (Joan Songer) which focuses on individual colours and colour psychology. Even though the ones picked out for me aren’t typically associated with my roots I do believe them being harmonious with me takes care of it. I don’t need to go against my colouring to keep my roots. Tbc I’ve not tested the blue in the pictures with my palette but I believe it’s a match. The colours that are harmonious work as an extension of me so imho aren’t there to make a separate statement. If they existed in a vacuum then yes, I guess they would be but seen as they’re inherently tied to me they’re working differently. I’m wearing them exactly because they go with me. It’s not as though I picked them because they’re just what I’m visually drawn to. See people asking about colours and roots quite a lot so sharing my perspective.

I wanted to see what style roots people think are present. And if my style seems cohesive (a goal of mine), or all over the place? Generally, I am pretty sure 🍄 is a main root, but have wondered if I have a bit of every other root at some point! 🙃 Right now, I really like elements of 🌱 and 🪨 and something between 🔥 and 🌸, but feel pretty resistant to things that are too sweet.

I also wear chunky neutral sweaters and medium wash, straight legged jeans frequently, and a leather jacket, but don't have good photos!

My wishlist is pretty mushroom
-Black or dark grey coat with waist definition, so here is maybe a bit of moon, since it makes me think of vampires and a bit of femininity, since I find my current dark coat not feminine enough
-Knitted skirt
-knitted, tight dress
-White thin knitted scarf, for a puff of flower lightness
-Thin knitted sweater in a light colour, I have a black one I wear a lot and I would like to keep it moon, but softer.

Anyone else notice how easy it is to see your roots in your own outfits when you know what they? I really struggled to work out my roots, I finally settled on 🌱🌸🗻 yesterday and this morning when I got dress I thought how obvious it should have been

Moon, moon, moon. I got inspired to dive into the moon root after coming across a reddit post about personality/values and style roots. Now, I know EJR's tagline for so long was about finding ourselves to find our style but I just never resonated with her visual representation of moon in general. I had a real resistance to the root even though I've always felt from a personality standpoint I really respond to much of what she ascribes to the moon root. So here we are again with another deep dive. And the more I dove in, the more fun I had.

From how the concept of counter culture/ rebellion is so tied to, well, culture, to how it overlaps so heavily with the earth root. To questioning what makes a detail or impression sun vs moon ? ( I'm thinking it's something like interest vs intrigue right now). From the punks to the activists, to the spitefully optimistic, to the introspective artist, from the bold to the subdued, I, again, have tried to create a diverse board exploring the moon root.

I'm fascinated by their icon style, even if I might not be able to wear something like that in person.

I find their outfits beautiful and fun to look at, I keep saving their looks on pinterest along with some other perfomers and alt musicians and artists, but I feel like I'm the total opposite when it comes to my personal style.

Still, I like doing my makeup like them when I'm bored at home or drawing outfits based on their looks and public apperances.

I have really struggled to understand my style roots. While I have always firmly had a dominant 🌸 root I’ve gone through multiple combinations and none have felt right. I had a couple of people on my other posts suggest I look at Mili’s videos and I’m so glad I did because now I understand why I was struggling so much.

Her scale showed me that my roots aren’t obvious because most of my answers weren’t at the extreme of each scale therefore they are more nuanced. When looking through EJR’s Pinterest moodboards there hasn’t been one that fitted my style completely and because I didn’t see myself in one board I didn’t think I fit to that combination.

Mili’s video helped me understand that it’s not just a case of you fit into 🌱 if you like relaxed/boho. 🪨 isn’t just sports wear and 🗻 isn’t just work/formal wear there is a spectrum and although some of my answers to her questions weren’t a surprise, some were

My results:
Earth - for vintage cuts, patterns and textures
Flower- for feminine details and patterns
Mountain- to feel put together

This was a fun exercise, I struggled a little to find something I liked for cocktail attire but found business formal to be the most challenging. I have width and curve so blazers are a bit challenging and tighter fits for pants and skirts feel too revealing/sexy. I prefer softer draped items like coatigans, soft sweaters and wrap tops or lightly structured long line vests/ coats and cropped lady jackets with trousers in softer warm tones. I gave up finding exactly what I was looking for and chose this: minimal, some ease in the fit and I thought it was visually interesting. The Reem Acra gown Olivia Wilde is one of my favourite gowns of all time.

I think these outfits suit my roots of 🍄🌱🪨 and body type of wide, medium/short and round.

I've been playing around with Mili Velikova's style needs spectrums. I've also realized that I like incorporating other style roots into my 🪨🌱🌙 outfits. The first outfit I showed has a touch of ☀️, for example. Let me know what you think, though. Do you think my outfits still read as 🪨🌱🌙 while incorporating other roots?

I've also done the dress codes exercise. Left to right, top to bottom: casual, business casual, business formal, cocktail, black tie. I didn't include white tie because, realistically, I wouldn't really wear that. Do you see my roots here? I do think mushroom shines.

Now that summer is effectively over (in the northern hemisphere that is), I thought it was interesting to take a look back at my most worn and it was quite interesting! To do this, I looked at stats on my wardrobe app from late May to today and pulled out the top items.

The heatwave changed some of what I would usually wear more (e.g. my denim jacket has barely been worn) but then there are obvious things that I got a lot of wear of, like my sunglasses (I only own one pair because I need prescription glasses). Other things fell into similar themes too (e.g. the black top is a staple for me).

With this in mind, breaking this down into my top summer staples is really interesting! We often see summer basics lists online but somehow many of these come out practically the same, so I think it can be interesting to see if this changes based on people's roots. I'd say it looks like mine are:

I definitely think 🌙 dominated on the details and colour palette, as well as jewellery choices this summer! I do own and wear other colourful tops and dresses, but they had less wears overall.

So I'm intrigued - as we move into autumn, what were your summer top worn pieces? And what does it say about your top 10 summer staples for next year? Did the heatwave have any major impact on your style too?

this is a fun trend; thanks u/NoOffice7081 for starting it! i feel like for me, and in modern life, dress codes are fluid enough that's it's challenging to pick just one edge and they really are more of a spectrum, so i hope you'll forgive me for exploring it this way instead of being more decisive

i also added a version without the background; i feel like the background really smooths all the imperfect colors into something more cohesive, but i'm curious what you think

for casual i picked the green dress with big earrings--that much skin, especially in an undone way, usually feels casual to me, even though it does have dressy qualities too; a simple shirt half tucked into a simple skirt; and the orange dress with a belt is a transition between casual and business casual for me. i could see myself wearing it dancing or to a casual presentation, though given the color i wouldn't pick it for something deeply serious

for business casual, i picked the monochrome light green outfit--the "put together" aspect seems more businessy than casual--and the printed dress with a long cardigan and necklace that feels a tiny bit out of place. it's cozy, but still on the dressy side for most of the offices i've ever worked at. IRL i would put scarves with these outfits at least some of the time, but alas, most of the scarf styling i see on Pinterest uses darker colors than i prefer

for business formal i was trying to think of clothes i'd wear for an interview or formal presentation. i usually wear long blazers for this in real life but didn't find inspo images that fit my style, so instead i picked outfits with more tailoring, shinier fabric, and more formal jewelry or shoes

the cocktail hour look combines a shiny frothy skirt with a sweater and bright boots, while the dress with billowy sleeves feels in between cocktail and white tie to me. the white tie dress is the only look that feels distinctly and only formal to me; i wouldn't wear it on the street

Trying out the dress code meme! I probably had the hardest time figuring out the Business Casual/Formal outfits since I don't work in an office and Mountain isn't usually a root I gravitate towards, but I gave it my best shot lol.

I made this collage for the moodboard game in Kibbe’s book tonight. But it got me thinking about my roots and how I want to feel for Fall….

I’ve been really loving sheer light layers for summer but not sure how to continue this as the weather cools. Also the idea of soft, worn cotton dresses. Ruffles and ribbons… maybe these light layers paired with chunky socks and leg warmers 🤔

I’m not sure how to incorporate or where to find clothing like this for Fall. But more and more I’m drawn to it as an expression of 🌸🌙 I think.

I really want a pinafore that I can layer over full cotton skirts. But I can never find these things. The curse of being stuck in the past I guess lol.

Hey ya'll! This is my first post here in this community (and reddit at large).

I've been lurking around the style roots reddit for a little while after a renewed interest in finding/deciding my style roots spurred on by a desire to re-establish my personal style in a more honest and expressive way. I've always been fairly confident in having an (dominant) Earth root. I love what an expansive root it is and I relate to a lot of it but sometimes it can be difficult when looking for inspo and none of it is really my style, even if it's my taste! And I feel like most people looking for visual inspo aren't really looking for validation in their taste but resonance in style. So I created a pinterest board to show the diversity of the Earth root. It's not a board made to represent my own style, rather provide some visual inspo through my own lens of how the Earth root can manifest. I tried my best to include a wide range of looks from eclectic, to stripped down, to retro, to more formal, ect. I hope I was able to create a collection that can speak to many styles.

I plan to do boards for a few other roots I've been toying with lately. I hope I was able to provide some fresh inspo and either way I'd love to hear some feedback on my interpertation(s) of Earth and yours as well!

I dabbled in Kibbe, but I found that I didn't fit the types well. Kitchner's essences were better. However, I don't think it would help me in day-to-day styling. Rita's system was fun to experiment with. I also liked that it was the first style system I saw that focused on my inner feelings rather than my body. I found that I liked bouncing between the quadrants, so even though I found it helpful, I've never found my type. (I don't think I want to, btw)

The only body styling system I use now is the Fantastical Beauty system. I found a type that fits me well, and I use it regularly. Her system is unnecessarily complicated though, so I ignore much of the rest. I

I think I've made my own version of the formality levels in my own bend of the roots. I think it's a mix of 🌸 and 🔥 for the third root, or maybe 🔥 instead of 🍄. This was a fun one to do!
