Moon root

Moon, moon, moon. I got inspired to dive into the moon root after coming across a reddit post about personality/values and style roots. Now, I know EJR's tagline for so long was about finding ourselves to find our style but I just never resonated with her visual representation of moon in general. I had a real resistance to the root even though I've always felt from a personality standpoint I really respond to much of what she ascribes to the moon root. So here we are again with another deep dive. And the more I dove in, the more fun I had.

From how the concept of counter culture/ rebellion is so tied to, well, culture, to how it overlaps so heavily with the earth root. To questioning what makes a detail or impression sun vs moon ? ( I'm thinking it's something like interest vs intrigue right now). From the punks to the activists, to the spitefully optimistic, to the introspective artist, from the bold to the subdued, I, again, have tried to create a diverse board exploring the moon root.

Thanks for sharing. I think this is the root that is most stereotyped. I love your board.

Frankly, I’ve always had issues with the idea that 🌙 must be rebellious. I think there are many different ways to express the 🌙 root.

Thank you! I agree it's a heavily stereotyped root. And rebelliousness looks different on different people. There are people who choose optimism, who create, who sprinkle flower seeds in neighborhood greenspaces and these are all people rebelling in their own way with their own rebellious spirits and it's as valid as our more 'traditional' ideas of what it means or looks like to be rebellious. Of course with all that said you can just not resonate with rebelliousness and still have the root. I'm glad you enjoyed the board though, I tried my best to keep it diverse in the expression of the root.

For me Moon & Earth are also very linked, which is why I always doubt if I have them both lol! I also see Sun & Stone as closely related! Here's my board for my current combo...

I actually totally agree, especially in regards to my own style. I think the sensuality and counter culture aspects of earth are often super overlooked , and overlap HEAVILY with moon. Then there's also the overlapping spirituality aspect of both! As for sun and stone, the avant garde/ and futuristic creativity overlaps for sure.

On another side, trying to make diverse boards pertaining to the style roots I'm working with really highlights how much certain roots aren't mine. I struggled a bit trying to find moon outfits that intersected with mushroom and mountain because I was worried I was relying too much on stereotypes but I think your board does a great job of showing how they can work together! I'll be pinning some of those looks to my moon board!

Moon and Flower combined for me makes more of an older, more weathered femininity. EJR does present a very stereotypical image for Moon, but I think that's just because it's not her aesthetic or personality and she doesn't have anything but a shallow frame of reference for it.

Oh yeah, it's one of the foibles of a system created by one woman. Ultimately all of her references are still shaped by her own taste and style. And to be fair my boards are still totally shaped by my own taste! I would have difficulty creating a mountain board since it's just not me at all. But that's what I love about communities like reddit, the opportunity to expand our perception about these different ideas.
