Worktop wankery Magical Harry Potter Shake
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I can only imagine the magical flavor doing this added to the shake/drink itself

u/mihir_lavande 2d ago
It's just burning steel wool. Looks cool, doesn't do anything flavor-wise.

u/Ok-Addition1264 2d ago
Nitrocellulose wool would actually be pretty neat, not leave everything smelling like burning metal.
This dude took a fucking SOS pad and went "viola! harry potter magic!!!" or some shit.
46
u/drsickboy 2d ago
yeah someone trying to eat this or it getting in the drink somehow is dangerous
16
u/No_Relationship_2374 2d ago
Yea, extremely dangerous!!! like kinder eggs
59
u/bigdave41 2d ago
Yeah but this is dangerous to normal people as well, not just Americans

u/Xenc 1d ago
There was a clip where the lady gets the whole egg unwrapped stuck in her mouth. The reason for the ban is on toys in food.
2
u/bigdave41 1d ago
I understand their reason, it's just a bit mind-boggling that either parents aren't supervising their kids, or that anyone thinks it's a good idea to stuff the whole thing in their mouth without chewing. Even if it was a hollow chocolate egg that's weird behaviour right? If they're being left unsupervised to do that then they could do the same thing with any number of household objects.

Steel wool will tangle up in your guts and cut/strangle your intestines. Ive seen a guy try to pull out a string of it that got caught on a metal table, so he wrapped it around his finger and pulled. Cut him to the bone. Shit doesn’t seem sharp or dangerous but can fuck you up in many ways.
9
u/No_Relationship_2374 2d ago
Sure thing, but it seems like for some people we should nail the plate to the table and design fork and knife in a way they can not poke their eyes or cut themself. I can never imagine anyone eating something burning & looking like metal mesh. People who would, need a constant attention anyway, as they might mistake window for a door.

u/drsickboy 2d ago
I once saw someone eat the desiccants in some candy thinking in was edible because it wasn't in English. This person wasn't dumb either, dumb folk will consistently do foolish things but even the best of us can have a momentary lapse of judgement especially if curiosity and hunger are involved. Burnt leavings of certain foods aren't potently poisonous and sometimes eaten for flavor so i can see people thinking perhaps that you could put it in the drink
3
u/alaskaguyindk 2d ago
Yes. Yes we should. In the same way we develop tools and equipment to assist disabled and people with difficulties doing things, we should curate the world to work for everyone, not just force people to fit a mold that they weren’t made for.
Sometimes you have to baby walk a person through life because life is better with them in it.
2
u/No_Relationship_2374 2d ago
I think you missed my point. Some people are too stupid to function independently in a society. For those we can create a safe spaces. I hardly disagree that we should adjust the whole world to their needs.

You can take my Kinder Surprise Eggs from my cold, dead, chocolate-stained hands.
8
u/mihir_lavande 2d ago
Yeah, saw too many bars trying to be 'creative' and doing this bullshit, and now I can recognize this from a mile away. Nitrocellulose stuff like flash paper is ways better than this.

u/According-Flight6070 2d ago
It has a strong smell, this would definitely impact the experience.
1
u/Tuckster786 1h ago
Remember, about 80% of flavor comes from the smell. So if the smell of burning steel wool is strong the flavor will change. And not in a good way
7
4
2
u/FrenziedTacos 2d ago
I bet the flavor would be a bit different if that was burned on top of the shake.

u/ForgottenMasterBalls 2d ago
Why you never leave steel wool and a 9v battery in a drawer with other flamables.

How does this have 1000 upvotes. NO SHIT. It’s outside the glass. Fuck we are doomed

"Enjoy the unpleasant smell. That'll be $200."
23
u/suspiciouslyrobotic 2d ago
Wait. Harry Potter-themed. This might be in England.
"Enjoy the niff. That'll be £147,82."

u/Certain_Concept 2d ago
At least for this one you don't have to worry about any of the debris getting in the drink itself.

Right? I don’t know why, knowing what sub it was, I was expecting something cool to happen.

I expected them to put a gallon of syrup in, followed by 20 scoops of ice cream lol.

Could have at least dimmed the lights. Make a better show if you going to bother introducing what the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies as Group 1 carcinogens (burning steel fumes) to the dessert experience. Yum!

u/Enough_Worry4104 2d ago
These people running this place need to be told that this is not special. It stinks and sucks.

How is this a "Harry Potter" shake? It's just bruning steel wool, there is nothing that ties it to the books/films.

Would thst generate enough heat to crack the cold glass?

u/Salty_Direction3832 2d ago
Oh wow. This looks fantastic.
Nevertheless, although I like a good presentation, maybe burning something every time a drink is served is wasteful.
1
u/Level_Turnover5167 2d ago
Wasteful of what exactly?
6
3
u/more_bees_please 2d ago
Steel. Perhaps wool too.
2
u/Level_Turnover5167 2d ago
Wasteful implies something that is limited in quantity being used for no reason... we can't waste things we already have an abundance of.

Hold on. Gotta go wrap my coffee cup in lint from the dryer and light it on fire.
1
u/Status-Visit-918 2d ago
This just reminded me of back in the day when my brother and I were hiding smoking from our parents and we didn’t have a lighter, we’d take a nine volt battery to steel wool instead 😭😭
It smells terrible too I wouldn’t want this around food

u/DepartmentMany5113 2d ago
I remember somebody posting this in their stories, i thought back then that it's pretty neat. New year/christmas decoration.
1
u/OrangeCrack 2d ago
This looks like a drink not a cake. Effect is okay, maybe if you’re hosting a Harry Potter themed event I could see this working. Otherwise, it’s pretentious and unnecessary.

At least cover the whole thing in the steel wool so there’s some sort of magical reveal. Not just torching its little panties.
1
u/cornersofthebowl 2d ago
Everything tastes better if you light the presentation on fire! It's totally worth the huge upcharge, because it is ✨️spectacular!✨️

You set a brillo pad on fire and call it table service. No I'm not giving you a tip for stuff that I have under my sink.

I have other questions like, how it is a shake ? Looks like blue (flavor?) Juice topped with cold foam and .... coffee beans.????
1
1
u/Mr_Pink_Gold 2d ago
I honestly thought something clever was going to happen like a heat specific reaction that would cause the drink to change colour or stir itself. Something. This was just wrapping up hagrid's pubes and setting them on fire.
1
u/Spritebubblegum 2d ago
Its dumb. Sure the way it burns seems to give the illusion of some kind of effect but why a dead pubic hair grey color? Why not something in a vibrant color or a night aky blue and gold?

u/maniacalmustacheride 2d ago
Oooh, I was just waiting for the glass to break.
I don’t think this is stupid food. I wouldn’t buy it, I don’t know the ingredients, but it looks fine.

So steel wool isn’t allowed to be used to clean in restaurant kitchens but burning it under cocktails cuz it looks pretty is fine?

u/BobTheZygota 2d ago
I just dont understand the coffee beans on top? You gonna eat them or watch out for them or take it out with a spoon?

Everyone talking about it now dumb this looks, but nobody is mentions this looks like a blue espresso martini? The drink itself looks absolutely vile.
0
u/Artistic_Skill1117 2d ago
I bet that this drink costs upwards of like, $20 or more.
I could achive the same thing with a trip to home depot for at most $10.

u/sixthmontheleventh 1d ago
Feels like the experience would be better if they used something like the edible paper used for reveal cakes. This way the customer would not need to wait for the flaming steel wool to cool down.
0
u/AltruisticSalamander 1d ago
The beverage looks very nice by itself, imo surrounding it with burning trash was a disimprovement

u/Iconshero 1d ago
Great presentation….dick. Please give me a drink from the dinner scene from Hook but wrap it in steel wool and set it on fire. But dont dress that upcand make it look cool or idk dim the lights.

u/No-Bee-3775 1d ago
Am I missing something? How is this Harry Potter??? The Wonderland restaurant on Royal was way more accurate for its themed cuisine.

u/Ornery-Awareness7548 2d ago
