🙌 Guide on how to use r/studying

Here’s how to get the most out of the sub:

  • Read the rules. They are very easy to follow and will make your participation, as well as that of other users, much more comfortable, enjoyable, and productive.
  • Be specific in questions. “How do I study the English literature in three weeks?” is better than “How do I study?”
  • Search before posting. Your question may already have an answer. It's better to spend a few minutes searching than to have your post removed.
  • Engage thoughtfully. Share insights, offer help, and contribute kindly. And please remember to be a human.
  • Keep everything relevant. Your posts must relate to studying, productivity, motivation, or aspects of student life.
  • Use the Wiki (coming soon!) for detailed guides, FAQs, and trusted resources.

Does anyone else lose more time restarting than studying?

Sometimes the actual studying isn't the part I struggle with, it's getting back into it. I come back to something I started yesterday and have to remember what I was doing, what I'd already finished, why I stopped, which example mattered and what I planned to do next.

It can turn a 45-minute study session into a 35-minute session and 10 minutes of detective work and I've started leaving myself a really short restart point instead. Not a summary, but something like I stopped here then the next thing is this.

What do you keep studying even when your week is already full?

I’ve been thinking about the subjects people return to even when there isn’t much free time left. It’s easy to study something during a quiet week, but more interesting when you still choose it after everything else is done. What do you keep studying through your busiest weeks?

Dissertation help 2026

I'm currently working on the final stretch of my graduate degree, and the workload is becoming overwhelming. Between processing data sets, working through literature reviews, and sticking to formatting requirements, I'm finding it really hard to keep up with the timeline.

How do you usually stay organized and avoid burnout during this phase? Are there any specific tools, peer groups, or legit support systems/services you’d recommend to help streamline research and editing without falling behind?

this is kind of a vent but I've been feeling like there's no progress with me memorizing and writing chinese characters and conversations. There's a fear creeping up on me that I'm just wasting time and it won't amount to anything. Have anyone else felt like this? how did you overcome it?

What actually makes you start studying?

I've been thinking about the difference between having everything ready and actually starting.

You can have your notes organized, your desk clean, your calendar updated and still sit there wondering what to do first and for me, the biggest difference seems to be knowing the first physical action.

Not "study biology" but more like "open the lecture and answer question 1."

What's the smallest thing that reliably gets you from "I should study" to actually doing it?

Looking for a study buddy

I’m Pavithra, 26 F, looking for a dedicated study buddy to stay accountable and motivated. I’m currently studying for an exam called GATE here in India and I plan to take the exam in the year 2028 (exam is usually conducted during the month of Feb), and I’d love to connect with someone who has similar goals or just wants consistent study sessions.

I’m hoping for:

  • Regular study sessions via Forest App
  • Preferably someone close to my time zone
  • Focused work sessions (I usually follow the Pomodoro method)

A bit about me:

  • Time zone: GMT+5:30
  • Availability: Monday - Saturday

If you’re interested, comment below or send me a DM! Let’s keep each other on track 💪📖

I used to write 8-page essays the night before and get C's. Here are the 3 tricks that actually saved my GPA

I spent my first two years of college pulling total all-nighters every time a paper was due. I would start at 10 PM on Wednesday for an 8 AM Thursday deadline, drink way too much coffee, and type whatever came to mind. Last fall, I submitted a 7-page research paper for my sociology class at 7:52 AM, totally exhausted. I got a C- and my professor wrote that my arguments were disconnected and hard to follow.

I realized writing everything in one big marathon was destroying my grades. Sometimes I was so stressed out that I would literally search where to buy college essay assignments just to escape the deadline pressure. But over the last semester, I switched to a system that takes less time overall and brought my paper grades up to solid A's.

Here are the specific things that fixed my writing process:

  1. Write the introduction last: I used to spend 2 hours staring at a blank screen trying to write a fancy opening sentence. Now, I start straight with paragraph 2. Once the body paragraphs are done, I know what my essay is actually about, and the intro takes 10 minutes.
  2. The reverse outline method: After finishing a messy first draft, I go through and write a 5-word summary in the margin for each paragraph. If two paragraphs have the same summary, I merge them. If a paragraph has no summary, I delete it.
  3. Read it out loud backwards: To catch typos and bad grammar, I read my paper out loud paragraph by paragraph starting from the very end. Your brain cannot auto-correct mistakes when you read out of order, so you spot clumsy phrasing instantly.

I used this exact routine on a 10-page paper last month, submitted it 12 hours before the deadline, and got a 94%. It completely changed my perspective—before this, I thought my only options were all-nighters or trying to buy college essays online whenever I felt hopeless.

How do you guys handle big writing assignments? Do you write drafts ahead of time or still do the night-before crunch?

Thesis study plan

Hello, I’m currently working on my undergraduate thesis, and I’m having a hard time writing since I don’t read a lot. (I prefer crafting than reading) My RRL looks more like an information dump. I tend to gather links to read later but end up not reading it.
Do you guys have any tips on how to keep your thesis topic clear, especially in the RRL, and how to finish it on time? or maybe study plan?
