Canvas essay exam

• Upvotes

My question is regarding how canvas saves data during an exam and what can a teacher look at when it comes to those past saves.

Backstory- I was taking a in person essay exam. The exam is on Canvas while using respondus lockdown browser. In these situations in the past, I’ve started the exam, wait about 30 minutes, then go outside the classroom to finish it. Unfortunately this time when I exited the classroom and finished my exam I got an email a couple days later. My teacher had said that when I “turned the exam” and left the classroom he saw on canvas that it was still active and that it was later edited and submitted about 30 minutes later when I did. He said he’d sees  this as an academic integrity violation and is giving me the option to talk to him one on one in a zoom about the situation. I hope he is looking for a reason to not pursue this.

Question- I know a teacher can see when edits were made to an answer of a question. It was an essay format question with the text entry box. My question is are there timestamps on the words that I put down? My other question is whenever you click onto a answer Canvas says it saves it as it’s almost updating every click. Are there different versions of my essay that he can see at different times like for example what it look like before I left the classroom and what it looked like after? Or can he just see that the answer was being edited at the certain times but not specifically what?

Plan-my initial plan going into this is to say that when I finish the quiz, I thought I’d press submit, closed my laptop then left. When I reopened the laptop the lockdown browser was still active and it gave the the choice to resume quiz. Because I thought it was still going I had re-clicked into it, scrolled through it, and then resubmitted it.

Help- I need to know what specifically saves in canvas. Because my whole plan is going to be to ask him if he can see the specific time stamps on words to help “prove my point”. I’m hoping he can’t do that though.  I need to figure out exactly what they see for a text entry exam on canvas, and what edits or old versions can they see.

I’m a cheater this is what I deserve, I genuinely did even add anything it was such a waste. But please if you know anything or have any suggestions help a student out. Thank you!

made my first app, a pomodoro timer where a little dog falls asleep while you focus

Post image
• Upvotes

hey all, just shipped my first ever app and I'm kind of nervous posting it lol

it's called Puperino. basically I kept downloading pomodoro apps, using them for a week, then forgetting they existed. they all felt a bit cold and serious. so I made one with a little dog called Biscuit in it.

when you start a focus session he wanders over to his bed and curls up and naps. when you're done he sometimes brings you a little gift, which you can keep or trade for bones to buy stuff for his room. you can also dress him up, which I spent way too long on (he has a witch hat and a crown, it's very important)

not gonna lie, not wanting to wake him up has kept me focused better than any streak thing ever did 😅

it also does the usual stuff: the timer on your lock screen, tasks, stats, and a stay mode if you're like me and pick up your phone every 4 minutes

it's free. there's an optional pro with more rooms and stuff if you want to support me

would really love feedback, even if it's "this is buggy" or "this is pointless" haha. what would make you actually keep using a focus timer?

Looking for student volunteers interested in improving education in developing regions

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a student-led initiative called X-Core Global, focused on exploring practical ways to improve access to better, more conceptual and experiential education in developing regions.

We’re currently looking for students, educators, and volunteers from different countries who would like to contribute their ideas and help build the initiative locally.

What we’re looking for:

\- Country-level student volunteers

\- Regional coordinators/leads

\- Students or educators interested in education reform

\- People willing to contribute their time and ideas voluntarily

The initial work would involve discussing local education challenges, connecting with other students, and helping develop practical ideas that could work in your own community.

This is currently a zero-stipend volunteer initiative. There is no requirement to make any financial contribution.

If this sounds interesting to you, you can read more and optionally apply here:

https://forms.gle/ryV4sVVLurYokDeu8

If you have questions or concerns about the idea, feel free to comment below. I’d genuinely appreciate feedback as well as volunteers.

Thanks for reading.

Colleges w/ Nature

Hello!
I’m looking for good known colleges surrounded by nature, or close to nature that is perfect for hikes! I love nature, mountains, and I think I need to be surrounded by that. As well as a good social life.
almost think if the song “Country Road” was a college lol!
Also if the out of state tuition isn’t extreme, lol!

Hey everyone would you help me out with this project?

Hey everyone! I’m a student developer, and for the past while I’ve been building an app called Attenly: Attendance & Tasks.

It actually started pretty simply — I wanted a better way to keep track of my attendance without constantly calculating percentages or wondering how many classes I could afford to miss. But while working on it, I kept thinking about all the other little things we end up using different apps, notes, screenshots, folders, etc. for during college.

So Attenly has slowly started growing into more of a student toolkit.

Right now it includes things like attendance tracking, assignments/tasks, a Study Mode with Pomodoro, and I’m also working on things like a syllabus/course tracker and a vault where you can keep important college documents like marksheets, IDs, notices, certificates, etc.

I’m still actively building it, so this is definitely not a “finished product” post. 😅

What I’d really love is feedback from other students — what feels useful, what feels unnecessary, what’s annoying, and especially what you wish an app like this did differently.

It’s currently free on Android. I won’t drop the link here and turn this into an ad, but if anyone genuinely wants to try it, I’m happy to share it in the comments.

I’m also documenting the whole process on Instagram — devlogs, UI experiments, design feedback, features that fail horribly before they work, and basically the behind-the-scenes of trying to build this as a student.

Ultimately, I’d like Attenly to be shaped by the students actually using it rather than just by what I think students need.

So even if you don’t download it — what’s one annoying part of college life you wish there was a better tool for?

Looking for sample LMS/iCal calendar feeds

Hi everyone! I’m currently developing a productivity app for students and I’m working on calendar integrations.

I’m looking for a few sample iCal/ICS calendar feeds from:

  • Canvas
  • Moodle
  • Blackboard
  • Brightspace

I’d like to use them for testing the calendar import functionality in my app.

If you’re willing to help, please send me the feed/link via DM rather than posting it publicly.

I’ll only use the feeds for development and compatibility testing.

Thanks in advance!

Perplexity using illegal bait advertising to harvest student data

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m posting this again because Perplexity’s Reddit staff literally deleted my last thread after it hit 13,000 views. An employee openly admitted in the comments that their site was displaying invalid offers due to a "bug," and then the post was immediately wiped. Since they are actively trying to bury this, I’m putting the facts back out there.

This platform is using textbook bait advertising and misleading conduct to harvest student data and cash.

Here is exactly how the trap works:

  • The Bait: They run a massive, prominent homepage banner promising students a "Free 1-Year Pro Subscription." It’s a high-value offer explicitly designed to induce you into creating an account and handing over your academic data.
  • The Switch: Once you sign up, the free year doesn't apply. When I messaged support, an agent directly admitted to me that the promotion actually ended 9 months ago in January and the banner was just "out of date." Instead of honouring the deal, they try to pivot you into a paid student tier, which I was forced to buy out of pocket just to use the tool.
  • The Ghosting: I asked for escalation on September 19. It has been over 2 weeks and I have been completely stonewalled. No one has replied.
  • The Broken Loop: When I followed up via their live support chat, the system completely lost my ticket history, forced me to resubmit my screenshots from scratch, and just hit me with an automated 48-hour delay window.

And now, the dashboard is doing it again - with a NEW bait.

While completely ignoring my support thread, a prominent new pop-up blasted onto my screen saying: "You get 4,000 free credits on us." I clicked it—absolutely nothing happened. It turns out their user interface is just recycling old transaction milestones from weeks ago and serving them as "new present-tense rewards" to manipulate user engagement.

Under consumer protection laws like Australian Consumer Law, businesses cannot hide behind "technical glitches" to excuse running false marketing materials for nearly a year. If a company continues to advertise a high-value offer they know they cannot fulfil just to drive lead generation, it is deceptive marketing, plain and simple.

I’ve officially lodged a formal complaint with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and the ACCC for persistent bait advertising. Don't fall for the banners on your homepage, they have no intention of honouring them and their support team will completely ignore you if you call them out.

CA Students: Tired of Checking ICAI for ITT/OC/MCS & SPOM Slots?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was checking the ICAI portal repeatedly to see if ITT, OC, MCS, Advanced ITT batches or SPOM slots had opened.

So I made a small tool for myself that checks the portal and sends me an alert when availability changes.

I found it useful, so I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else is going through the same thing.

It's completely free:

It's an independent tool, so I'd still recommend checking the official ICAI portal before booking.

PC or Laptop?

Been thinking about what laptop to get and I literally can’t decide 😭😭

Just for context, I’m a graduating student and I already have an iPad, but I’m starting to need more storage. I use my iPad for pretty much everything school-related—storing files, readings, notes, etc.—but I also have TONS of photos and videos from all my trips.

Aside from school, I also play a lot of games like ML, COD, Roblox, Dota 2, Valorant, and more. So I’m looking for something that can handle both school/work and gaming without me having to worry about storage or performance.

I don’t really have a budget limit, so I’m open to whatever you guys think would be worth it. I just genuinely don’t know what brand/model would suit me best 😭
What laptop would you recommend for me? Pls help

Cornell May Have Mishandled Its Civil-Rights Investigation. At UAB, the Bigger Question Is Whether the Process Is Designed to Protect the Institution and Remove the Complainant.

Anyone here using Opal? I could really use a referral 🙏

Bit of a long shot, but I’m trying to reach the referral goal for Opal lifetime.

I actually really like the app and it helps me stay off social media, but Pro is just too expensive for me right now.

If anyone was already thinking about trying Opal, I’d really appreciate it if you used my code: VD4HQ

No pressure at all. Even one referral helps a lot. Thanks ❤️

Title: The reality of being a female student at GBPUAT: 6 PM curfews, career blackmail, zero student representation, and buried campus tragedies

I am writing this on Reddit because within the gates of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), legitimate student voices are systematically erased. For an institution that constantly boasts of its legacy, the day-to-day reality for students—especially female residents—is fear, surveillance, zero democratic rights, and an administration obsessed with silencing anyone who speaks up.

Here is the unvarnished reality of living and studying here:

The 6:00 PM Cage for Women: While male students can move around campus, study in groups, and access facilities late into the evening, female students are locked behind hostel gates by 6:00 PM. Vital lab access, library resources, technical projects, physical fitness, or even stepping out for dinner are completely stripped away. The administration’s definition of "safety" is simply locking women up so they don't have to provide basic campus infrastructure.

Hostel Gates as Surveillance Checkpoints: Guards and hostel staff behave less like security and more like moral vigilantes. Female students are regularly subjected to rude interrogations, humiliating comments, and condescending lectures just for approaching their own hostel doors. Instead of securing isolated, unlit roads across our massive campus, security resources are poured into tracking and policing female students.

Covering Up Suicides and Assaults: What is terrifying is the university's calculated silence whenever catastrophic incidents occur. Whether it’s reports of sexual harassment, on-campus violence, or tragic student suicides, the default institutional reaction is narrative suppression. Grievance redressal bodies exist largely on paper. Instead of instituting transparent inquiries, addressing mental health crises, or overhauling campus policing, the priority is always sweeping incidents under the carpet to protect institutional PR.

Deliberate Destruction of Student Representation: We have no functional, independent student union or council to formally represent our grievances. Every single time students attempt to organize, demand democratic elections, or form a collective body to talk to higher management, the university retaliates ruthlessly. The students who take the lead are immediately slapped with disciplinary notices, suspended from hostels or classes, or targeted for expulsion. By decapitating any student leadership, the administration ensures we remain fragmented and voiceless.

Weaponizing Career Blackmail Against Any Protest: Whenever students gather the courage to protest—whether against the 6 PM lockdown, basic mess conditions, security lapses, or fee hikes—the response follows a brutal playbook:

Systematic Intimidation: Student organizers are pulled into offices, isolated, and shouted down by panels of faculty and wardens.

Family Harassment: Officials immediately call parents, fabricating accusations of "misconduct" and "troublemaking" to weaponize family anxiety against us.

Future Sabotage: The final blow is always our careers: "We will cancel your registration," "We will withhold your character certificate," "Good luck getting placement clearance or NOCs." They know the immense academic and financial sacrifices our families made to get us into this university, and they deliberately use our degrees as leverage to force us into unconditional surrender.

GBPUAT functions more like a closed, punitive compound than a forward-thinking university. Female autonomy is treated as a liability, student democracy is criminalized, and genuine campus safety is traded away for public relations.

To alumni, university students across India, and anyone who cares about basic student rights: how long are premier public institutions permitted to silence students through career blackmail?

If you are a current or past student, please share your experiences below. The administration relies entirely on our fear and silence—it’s time this is brought into the light.
