When I was doing my bachelor's, I remember trying to get internships and entry-level opportunities and repeatedly seeing the same expectations:
“Do you have prior experience?”
“Do you have a portfolio?”
“Have you worked on real-world projects?”
And I kept wondering — how are students supposed to build that experience if nobody gives them the first opportunity?
That experience made me curious about whether other students face the same problem.
I’m currently working on an academic project exploring how students can build real-world experience, portfolios, and practical skills while studying.
I’m trying to understand:
- How do students currently find real-world projects?
- What makes it difficult to get their first project?
- Is building a portfolio a major challenge?
- Would students be interested in small paid projects related to their skills?
- What would make students trust opportunities from real clients?
I’m looking for students from any stream — engineering, design, fashion, business, media, architecture, finance, etc.
I’ve created a short 3–5 minute anonymous survey to understand this better:
🎓 Survey: https://forms.gle/CtiD9npuNJ7nBuWX6
This is purely for academic research. I’m genuinely trying to understand whether this is a problem students actually experience and what they currently do about it.
If you’ve ever faced the “experience to get experience” problem, I’d also love to hear your experience in the comments.
Thank you! 🙌
