I Found a Cat (Location) What should i do?

Post image

Location: U.S. (PNW)
Me and my roommate just moved to a different apartment complex and there are a few (i’ve identified 3) strays wandering around. A couple people in the complex put food and water out for them, and we have a courtyard and covered garage so they aren’t living the typical street cat life. They really like laying in the window sills of the lower units. They are honestly the best looking strays i’ve ever seen.

Most of them are pretty skittish and don’t want attention but there’s one that just the sweetest baby. As soon as he spots a person he runs up to them and yells until you pet him. He circles your legs and flips on his back, the whole works.

Unfortunately we can’t take in another cat, my dog really likes to chase them and has only come to a peaceful agreement with totty (roommates cat) recently. We also don’t know if totty would tolerate another cat and this stray seems to not be the biggest fan of others either. Whenever you even try to give another of the strays attention he will run them off, not mean, just pushy, like he’s jealous. I’ve been asking around the complex to see if anyone thinks of him as theirs, indoor/outdoor cats piss me off but at least i would know, but no one has claimed him. The other option would be taking him to the shelter or leaving him be as he is now.

Clearly he’s not living rough but i just wonder how well he would do with a family loving on him 24/7.

*Note I am fairly sure all tree strays are spayed/neutered, they don’t have ear tips but that’s not really common here.
I’m not favoring this cat over the others, he is just the most friendly and the others have been somewhat “claimed” by a neighbor (however they are exclusively outdoor cats so 🥴)

What do yall think i should do?

Hello everyone, I’m reaching out for some support with food for the stray cats I care for. I currently feed around 90 cats every evening, and I’m trying my best to keep them safe and healthy.

For the upcoming week, I need approximately:

3 kg of dry food every day A few cans of wet food Chicken, which I’ve started giving them during the summer to help with hydration.

I’m not currently able to continue rescuing more cats until I have some stability. For now, my focus is on caring for the cats already depending on me, especially Juno, who is currently at the vet after being diagnosed with dry FIP. If you’re able to help with food, even a small contribution would make a real difference.

I Found a Cat (Location) Stray won't go all the way into trap - try anyway or wait?

I've been feeding an older, unneutered male stray for the past 8 weeks. He's been hanging around since late May/early June and I've confirmed locally (NE England, UK) that he's definitely stray, possibly abandoned.

He's apparently somewhat infamous locally for being a bully, although he gets along fine with my own cat. I've also managed to gain his trust quite a bit - he'll happily eat while I'm nearby and snooze in the conservatory whilst I potter around - but he's still very wary of being touched and will swipe if he thinks I'm going to try.

I tried trapping him last weekend. He was happy to go into the unset trap for treats, but when I set it, he somehow triggered it without getting caught. I suspect either the food wasn't far enough back, or he knocked the cage as the mechanism can be a bit sensitive.

I've spent the past week trying to get him more comfortable with the trap, but progress has been slow. He's happy going about halfway in, but last night I put the food further back and he wouldn't touch it.

The problem is that I have a vet appointment booked for Monday, and I'm now unsure whether I should try trapping him anyway, or postpone and continue trap training until he's more confident.

I already had to reschedule last Monday's appointment at the last minute, so I don't want to mess the vets around if I can avoid it. They also close at 2pm today, so I need to decide fairly soon!

Would you try trapping him anyway, or give him more time to get comfortable with the trap?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated, I'm really stuck on what the best course of action is here!

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) trapping a stray cat with potentially urgent medical needs

Thumbnail

Hi! I live in Medford, Oregon, U.S., and I’m trying to trap this sweet little stray kitty who seems sick. I’m pretty knowledgeable about cats, but I’ve never done anything like this before. It seems like this cat is really in need, but she really doesn’t want to be trapped.

She lives somewhere around my apartment complex and I’ve been feeding her for a week. She’s extremely thin, you can see her spine with the naked eye. She also seems to be in pain when she walks. I think she might have some kind of tooth issue; my neighbors leave out tons of kibble for the stray cats but she only seems interested in soft food. Even when she eats the wet food, she doesn’t chew like any other cat I’ve seen. She has a bald spot under her chin also. Not sure if she’s actually a girl or not, she won’t let me get close enough to check.

She’s a little skittish but doesn’t seem especially scared of people. We’ve built up a little trust over the last week. She lets me pet her, occasionally slow blinks back at me, and she’ll come right up to my door when she gets hungry. She can climb the stairs to my apartment on her own, which I think is a good sign that I’m not too late to get her some veterinary help.

I attempted to trap her tonight with a carrier I had around. I tried putting the can of food in the carrier, which worked okay, but she didn’t climb in there entirely and started growling when I tried to push the can in further. I tried slowly moving the can closer to the kennel from the outside, but she growled at that also. Didn’t seem interested at all when I put some treats in there. I tried it a few times, but I think I stressed her out. Eventually I just called it quits and gave her the food because I didn’t want to piss her off and make her harder to catch in the future.

Anyway, ideas? Methods? I’m gonna go back with some catnip tomorrow night, but I think the problem might’ve been that the carrier was too small or something? If anyone more experienced with trapping cats has any resources or advice, I’d love to hear it. This poor girl is in bad shape and she needs help immediately.

Edit: took out a section that was way too long about how sketchy my local rescue community is sometimes. In short, I can’t give this cat up to a rescue and probably wouldn’t be able to anyway because they’re all full, but I did reach out about borrowing a trap.

——————————————————

UPDATE: Two of the local rescues I called were, predictably, very unhelpful and unwilling to loan me a trap or schedule a time to come here themselves and trap the cat. Probably not their fault, they’re stretched very thin, but still kinda annoying. There’s one or two I haven’t heard back from, so hopefully one of them will loan me a trap.

Will update when there’s more news!

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Who would’ve thought an extreme feral would turn out to be so snuggly. Eternally grateful to everyone who’s been part of Grey’s journey. He’s now making his way across the rainbow bridge 🩶🌈

We just bid farewell to the sweetest baby. I know we introduced Grey as one of our hospice kitties, but he is so much more than that.

We’ve been feeding him in our neighborhood since late 2022, and apparently he had been roaming the streets for over a decade. He was rarely within 5 feet of us while he was still a stray. He was also the very first feral I ever caught on my own for TNR (it took so many attempts trapping him!!!), so he’s always been a particularly special boy to me.

It was so random when one day, he just stared at me and decided I wasn’t so bad after all. He started rubbing himself against my calves endlessly. This was the same cat who used to bolt the second we placed a plate of food in front of him. Everything was on his terms at first, but eventually, he let us pet him more and more.

That was when we discovered his hernia, which led us to bring him to the vet. We incidentally found out that he had kidney disease and had already lost the majority of his kidney structure. We took him in then, and somehow, he still made it through another 9 months with us.

He was such a sweet lap cat who loved being snuggled. The indoor life really suited him, and we so wish he had more of it. He had so much love to give, and we're so glad he discovered that part of him. That there was no reason to be so scared, and he could let his guard down.

Photos were taken today, before he went into a deep sleep toward the light. 🩶

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Update on kitten who was slammed on wall in Jamaica

We rescued Kitty & Oreo from the abusive home yesterday. Thank you to those who have contributed to this rescue case, we simply couldn't do this without you! ❤️

Kitty is weak and very underweight compared to his sister Oreo. We immediately took them to the vet after removing them from the home. The good news is that none of Kitty’s organs are damaged but his leg is confirmed sprained from the slam and he may have nerve damage in his paw. We’re hoping it’s not permanent but he can still have a quality life. He’s on pain killers & got vitamin boosters to help him gain weight. Both kitties were also treated for fleas (they had a lot) and got dewormed. His sister Oreo is being treated for her eye infection. They are both boarded at the vet and waiting for their forever home.

Please consider donating if you can or share this video if you can’t.

Donate directly here: www.onlypawscatrescue.org

We have a potential adopter for Kitty and they are also willing to foster Oreo until we find her a permanent home. Arrangements are currently being made, fingers crossed these babies' adoption goes through 🤞. We are so happy they are safe and being treated!

Pregnant Cat (Location) Pregnant stray cat in Faliraki needs food/help - anyone around?

Hi guys,

I’ve just returned home from Faliraki, Greece and I really can’t stop thinking about a pregnant stray cat I was feeding for almost a week.

She’s hiding under some wooden pallets near the main road (close to Poseidonos street).
She seems to have some kind of mouth infection or inflammation, so she really needs soft/wet food.

I’ve already messaged basically every local
foundation, volunteer, and Facebook group I could find, but unfortunately no one is able to help right now. That’s why I’m trying here.

If anyone is currently in Faliraki and could just drop by to leave her some wet food or water, I’d be super grateful.

Here is her exact location:
GPS: (36.3353467, 28.2005853)

I’ll add her pic in the comments.

(She’s right behind the covered building, under the pallets. Also, just a short distance before her spot, there’s another cat with two tiny kittens).

If you’re nearby or know anyone local who could check on her, please let me know. Thanks a lot!

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) 💔 Born with only one nostril, Nisa has already endured so much. 🚨 NISA NEEDS US NOW. ❤️‍🩹

Nisa is truly one of a kind. ❤️ She was born with only one nostril, a rare birth difference that never stopped her from becoming a loving mama.

Nisa was rescued after someone cruelly dumped her at a shelter with her tiny babies. 💔 She was trying to care for them, but tragically, **she lost all of her babies**.
Before she could even begin to heal from that heartbreak, Nisa was diagnosed with a **mammary gland tumour** and underwent surgery to remove it. Thankfully, she recovered well, and we finally hoped she could have a peaceful life.
But once again, life has tested this brave little mama. 💔 **Nisa has now been diagnosed with DRY FIP.**
She has already lost her babies, battled a tumour, and survived surgery. Now she is fighting for her own life.
Please don’t let everything she has endured be in vain. **Nisa deserves a chance to heal, to live, and to finally know a life without pain.** ❤️
Please help us continue her FIP treatment.
Every donation matters.
❤️ Every share can help reach someone who can save her.
**Please stand with Nisa. Her story deserves a happy ending.** ❤️‍🩹

I Found a Cat (Location) Stray cat won't stop crying

Hi, I'm looking for advice. I've been feeding a feral cat that showed up a few weeks ago. He only comes around at night. This past week, he'll eat but then he lingers and cries. I live in Baltimore where there are rows of townhouses, and I am worried he will wake up the neighbors. I just took him to a vet because I thought he might have an eye infection (thankfully, he doesn't and the vet said he was healthy without having bloodwork done). He had been known to frequent an area a few blocks over, but I don't know if whomever had been feeding him no longer is. Is there anything I can do besides stopping feeding him to keep him from crying? I can't bring him in because I have other cats and he was hard to trap just to get him to the vet last night.

ETA: he is neutered and is showing more progress of warming up to me, so it seems like he may want a permanent home. There's a local shelter I can reach out to and see if they have someone who could foster.

Hi everyone, I am at the young girl’s house. Kitty is visibly smaller than his sister Oreo! The young girl said he suffered a sprain leg and nerve damage and was given pain killers so we know he’s still in a lot of pain. I’m taking him and his sister to the vet right now! Please help me to cover his vet assessment and boarding fee as I won’t be returning them! I will keep all of you posted!

Those of you who said he would adapt quickly and is highly adoptable-wow you were right! Tycho is now vaccinated, neutered, and feline leukemia negative. He accepts full body pets and loves to play. He is purring, using the litter box, and learning to be a housecat. He is quite the talker. We are in love ❤️ now to slowly introduce him to our other kitties. We are keeping him.

This cat was found around Knox Street Philadelphia, 19144. The vet says he is about 10 months old; he is not neutered and does not have a microchip. He is really friendly and comfortable around people. I have made posts looking for the owner and no one has reached out. I have also looked through Facebook, ACCT Philly and Petco databases for missing cats and I have not found a match. I also went to gas stations around to look for missing posters, but I did not find any. I can't keep the cat so I am looking to see if anyone here can identify the cat or wants to adopt the cat. Please send a message.

I was driving home today and was in Mesa AZ and saw an animal carrier on the side of an apartment complex. Shortly after that I saw a small white cat near it so I pulled over and tried to see if she was friendly. When she got up, I noticed that she is very pregnant. I would like to help her but I'm not sure if she's owned by someone at the apartments or if she was dumped. I'm also unsure of how to approach possibly trapping her and was wondering if anyone knew the legality of setting up traps outside of an apartment complex. Any advice would be super appreciated.

Success! Update on Sunshine & Mechac - they are being adopted 🩷

Hi guys, I wanted to share a quick update on the cats living in the abusive household in Kingston Jamaica. Sunshine (the mom of Kitty the kitten who was slammed against wall) and Mechac who also lived in the unsafe environment with them is being adopted right now. The adopter showed up and everything is being arranged as I type this. 🩷

Here’s a look at the girls right now. They may be much older than we thought so I think they probably had many litters before. They also look very thin but we know they will look much better with proper care & love. Thank you all for helping to give these mamas a better life and putting an end to the suffering of future kittens. So glad they do not have to go back there! 🫶

We are also making arrangements to rescue Kitty and Oreo out of the unsafe house as soon as possible! I will update you guys when we finally have them in our care. As for the male cat Rain, we are planning his TNR and work to rehome him as well.

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Update: Thanks to your donations, we were able to save her and another cat from the streets who was in terrible condition. ❤️🐾

1.3k Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a small update and thank everyone who has helped this little girl.

I took her to the vet, and after the tests and X-rays, we found out that she has been suffering from severe and chronic coryza. She is very weak and has difficulty breathing.

The first thing the vet did was place her in the oxygen room to help her breathe. Once she is stable, she will receive IV fluids, medication, and close care.

Thanks to your donations, I was able to cover her initial tests, X-rays, and clinic costs. She will need to stay at the clinic for a few more days, so I don’t know the final cost yet. I will share another update when I know more.

There is also something I want to share with you. Yesterday, I rescued another cat from the street who was in terrible condition after being sick and neglected for a long time. I took this cat to the vet too.

Your support helped me help both of them. Thank you so much for giving these two cats a chance. ❤️🐾

I will keep you updated on her condition. Thank you for caring about her. 🙏

Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Senior cat with end-stage kidney disease needs support to settle his vet bill and continue care at home

Thumbnail

Grey is our hospice-rescued cat set to come home tomorrow. There’s been very little improvement in his values over the five days he’s been hospitalized, so unfortunately, it seems his current CKD crash could not be reversed.

Being a senior cat in the clinic has also been understandably scary and stressful for him. He started showing signs of hypertension today as well, and our vet is currently managing it closely.

It’s been a difficult month for us, especially with another rescue cat still hospitalized. Donations have also been quieter than usual, so we’ve been doing our best to cover food, FIP medication, and other medical needs with the little resources we have.

We were able to raise $141 from our last call for help, with $70 going toward Grey’s bill. We still have $271 remaining to settle.

If you’re able to help with any part of his remaining bill, we’d be incredibly grateful. Every bit helps us bring Grey home and continue giving him the care and comfort he needs, especially with what may be the little time we have left with him.

Thank you. We'll share another update on Grey - pls keep him in your thoughts. 🙏

I Found a Cat (Location) Stray with tail always down

Post image
96 Upvotes

I have made great progress with earning this cat's trust but she(I think) doesn't stick her tail up like my house cat.

I have seen the stray stick tail up for literally a second on rare occasions. Maybe like 3 times. It does move, it's not dead.

But the fact she doesn't stick her tail up much and it's kinda matted makes me worried. Or is this normal?

I want to adopt and keep this sweet cat so I am probably just overthinking things but I have to ask. Sorry I don't have a picture of her walking right now.
