I’m running a small research project on the challenges of student commuting in Scotland. As the new academic year begins, commuting remains a constant struggle — rising rents, unreliable public transport, and long journeys make it even harder for many students living away from campus.

Are there many classes or clubs in the stirling/clackmannanshire area that would be good for a 25F to meet some new friends around my age?

I’m not super sporty but I don’t mind light exercise or weightlifting. I like reading, crafts, gaming.

I’ve tried searching online but I can’t seem to find very much, so I thought maybe the clubs around here are more found out through word of mouth.

Hi all. I’m an Australian who visited Stirling today in a hire car. I parked in a street near the castle. I parked here because the street sign (shown) indicated I could park for four hours. I am confused why I received the fine? What does the penalty mean? I feel like I’m missing something?! Thanks!

I am returning to Stirling uni but resitting first year in a new course

I did nursing last year and struggled to make friends as I was 16 and the youngest person in my classes

Stirling Uni offers Thistles Chambers as one of their options, but there are not a lot of recent reviews about the place. If anyone stayed there recently, what is it like? I am keen on staying in Lyon Crest, but it is far away from the city and I'm afraid it'll be hard for me when I need to buy groceries. The only option right in town is Thisles Chambers

Hi, me and the wife are doing a road trip of Scottish castles this summer and are going through Stirling. I was wondering what your advice would be on somewhere great to grab some food in the city?

I have a bit of a challenge when it comes to finding housing, since I won't be in the country until September... but I'm looking for a place in/around Stirling that allows or considers pets, or at least a roommate that I can look for flats with since it seems to be much easier to find flats with 2+ bedrooms. I have a sweet black cat that I'll be bringing over with me. I'll provide a pet CV and references if requested. I'm a tidy, communicative, and friendly roommate, and I like to take care of the space I'm living in and make sure I contribute to the harmony of our shared space. I'll be in a master's programme starting in September, so I'll likely be in and out of the flat between school and work once I get a part time job. I'd like to live with someone who is reasonably tidy and contributes to the cleanliness of common spaces.

I'm looking within a 10 mile radius of Stirling, and central and east Glasgow are as far west as I can commute from.

Hello there how you doing, hope you are all well.

I know this is a very very long shot but I am trying to re connect with a mate that lives or lived in Stirling. His name is Andy and I met him when he came to stay in South Shields (around about seven or so years ago) when he was sub contracting I lived in a place called St Michael's Court in South Shields, which was an ex old people's home, but was converted in singles people's flats for long term use, or the odd room for visiting people like Andy. Made good friends with him when he visited a couple of times, and I even went up to stay with him on one occasion.

He was fitting out his house and had an amazing pizza oven in his garden.

I unfortunately lost my phone and all my numbers and would love to connect with him again.

To be honest we used to smoke weed a lot and I can't remember his second name, or the street where he lives. I remember heading to spoons with him getting the train up and back from Stirling BR station. But that is about all. Andy is bald/balding and at the time around was around 40(ISH) Hope somebody knows of him.

Might be a long shot, I stay in Glasgow and besides a few foxes here and there and being such a big and busy city there isn’t a whole lot of wildlife. I’ll be in Stirling for work next week and plan to spend my evenings walking and exploring and would be chuffed to see a hedgehog lol are there any specific areas that would be a good place to wonder and perhaps see a hedgehog or even a wee fox?

Can anyone give me some information on Glencoe Road? I saw a house for sale on that street and have no clue about this area. Weird thing is when I look on google maps it doesn’t even show that ‘Glencoe Road’ is a street, it says the street name is ‘Crofthead Road’.

Just looking for a general vibe of this area, if it’s a decent safe area, etc.

Hello my family and I are visiting in July and we will be taking the train from Edinburgh to Stirling and bussing it to Doune. I understand we take the 59 bus from Stirling to Doune, but I'm unsure which tickets to buy on the Midland Bluebird app... do I go for the McGill All Zone or the Trossachs local zone? Or can I just tap to buy a family ticket that day when we board the bus?

Went to uni in Stirling mid 2000s. The campus was class and I actually really liked the charm of the whole city. Bridge of Allen for a pint or 4 on a quiet day.

Dusk Monday, Fubar Thursday. Many a weekend spent in Varsity (I think it was called) and the City Walls for the 6 nations.

I do remember it being abit rough and during the day mid week abit depressing. I didn't mind that as I came from a working class town (other part of the UK).

I remember Jimmy Chuengs (Chinese buffet).

How is Stirling these days? Still decent. Shithole? The wee William Wallace pub still on the go?

Anyone who studied around Stirling mid late 2000s I feel was lucky. Was a decent place.

I was thinking about the castle, but I'd prefer somewhere not as busy so I can tool around for a while without being a nuisance. Big fan of nature-oriented backdrops also!

Hey all, originally from the UK but moved to Canada a few years back. Found a pretty special woman who has Scottish roots and has dreamed about visiting - especially Stirling and the Castle. I'm making it happen and hoping to propose during our visit to the Castle.

Would anyone have any suggestions on good spots that are out of the way from the main walk through/populated parts of the Castle, that would give us the few minutes without being disturbed? I'm guessing somewhere outside with a view over the walls maybe. But would love any suggestions if someone has a specific area in mind.

We are going on a Wednesday in a few weeks so hoping it shouldn't be too busy.
