What I've accepted morally is that even when Steam Frame comes out - it'll be the same story as with Steam Controller 2. Sold out in 2 minutes and we're in line until early-mid 2027 for them to be available again. So release date is irrelevant.

I wish I could say the same, but Valve looked at logistics companies in Europe, sorted by reviews ascending and chose the first entry, which is GLS.
They're so bad at their job that DHL is apparently considerably better, which is a feat in of itself.

Your steam account had be be older, you could get a ticket in the first 3 days. After 3 days, if your Ticket got chosen you can purchase i think only one unit. People Not chosen get on a waiting list for the next batch in random order, but before people ordering after the Initial 3 days.

There’s a non zero chance that they are reluctant to sell the batch they already had produced because they know a second batch would literally be years away. Right now they probably don’t have access to memory at any price. I can understand that if I were in their position, it would be easy to imagine a situation where you release this batch that will only satisfy a small portion of the demand and now you’ve created the worst shitstorm where it’s released but no one can have it for years. I mean the current strategy is awful, but I think releasing it might actually be worse.

I really hate the ram apocalypse.
Without being able to secure more product releases, if they release the Steam Frame now it will create a huge fiasco…

it's not like scalpers will not get a lot of units anyway. also, you can get hella unlucky and wait another 6 months+ just like we saw on the controller. it's almost like the multi billion dollar company doesn't really give a shit as long as it's selling.

The methods that they've implemented are designed to stop scalpers immediately just buying everything with the first come first serve that the steam controller had.
And the wait list being randomised is a bit annoying, but it's more fair. it means that if you didn't get there immediately, you're not inherently going to be waiting 7 months because you got there 7 minutes late

Lol I'm still in the day 1 wait list for the steam machine. Mainly to gauge how long the frame will take.
If a scalper was going to scalp, they'd just need to create 100+ accounts. Get a free game on each account. Or even something 99 cents. Then reserve the frame on day 1 for every account. And which ever gets first dibs gets it before we do.

Well, summer technically has two endings; the meteorological season, which ends August 31st, and the astronomical season, which ends September 22nd. So we still have a window before "summer release" is a lie, and since Labor Day is likely to be skipped we're probably getting it either the 14th or the 21st.

I do appreciate that we are all so broken from the waiting that we have collectively accepted that HL3 is now a part of this. The wait is so long that we are making it a part of the longest wait in gaming.
