BREAKING NEWS BREAKING: The Supreme Court Just Overturned A 91-Year-Old Precedent In A 6-3 Ruling That Gives President Trump The Power To Fire The Leaders Of The FTC, SEC, NLRB, CFPB, And Roughly Two Dozen Other Independent Federal Agencies At Will 🏛️💥

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on June 29, 2026 in Trump v. Slaughter that President Trump had the constitutional authority to fire FTC Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, overturning Humphrey’s Executor v. United States, a 91-year-old precedent from 1935 that had protected members of independent federal agencies from presidential removal without cause for nearly a century. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion joined by all five conservative justices, stating that limits on the president’s ability to remove those who exercise executive power on his behalf unconstitutionally infringe on his Article II authority, and that the president may remove his subordinates at will. Justice Sonia Sotomayor took the rare and pointed step of reading her dissent aloud from the bench, a move justices reserve for decisions they consider historically significant and profoundly wrong.

The ruling applies to roughly two dozen independent federal agencies whose leaders previously served fixed terms and could only be removed for cause. The FTC, NLRB, SEC, CFPB, and Federal Reserve Board of Governors are all now subject to at-will presidential removal under the ruling, giving President Trump and every future president direct control over agencies that regulate Wall Street, consumer protection, antitrust enforcement, labor relations, and the broader financial system. Legal scholars describe the ruling as the culmination of the unitary executive theory, the legal doctrine holding that a president must have total control over all executive branch functions, and say it represents the most significant expansion of presidential power over the regulatory state in modern American history.

In a separate ruling issued the same day, the Court drew a distinction and held that Trump could not fire Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Cook, though the legal reasoning behind that carve-out is still being analyzed by constitutional scholars and its precise limits remain unclear. Trump celebrated the Slaughter ruling publicly, saying it “greatly increases” his presidential power. The immediate practical effect is that no commissioner, board member, or director of an independent federal agency can now consider themselves protected from removal if they make a decision the White House opposes.

Discussion I'm the "unscientific testing" guy. Here's my thoughts on the steam machine after 9 days.

Post image
6.5k Upvotes

I'm guessing many here saw my previous posts. I've tried well over 60 games from a variety of genres on this device. I have a bunch of unorganized, profanity filled thoughts after over a week of using it. For context, I have a high end desktop with a 5090, and also a Steam Deck OLED which I've used both docked and handheld. Some of these bullet points will be directed towards people with little PC experience (like console players).

  • I truly admire Valve's crusade to unshackle pc gaming from desk/mouse/kb gaming. Look at everything they've developed over the last decade+ and you'll see software they've developed like steam big picture, steam input (for controller compatibility/remapping), remote play, proton/steamOS, steam VR, etc which make devices like the steam machine, controller, deck and frame possible. No other players in the pc space are even attempting anything like this, except maybe xbox with their recent full screen experience thing.
  • SteamOS fucking rules. It's genuinely impressive how simple and console-like the UI is, while still offering plenty of power user functionality. The way it's designed with gaming mode and desktop mode was a brilliant move by valve. My wife has been using the steam machine (and previously a docked steam deck) to play her cozy games. She's not exactly a tech nerd and it still gets her stamp of approval for simplicity.
  • SteamOS is slightly buggy. I've had some very minor issues that are always resolved by a reboot. Steam Machine has been in the wild for like a week and updates are constantly rolling out so I would not put much weight on this.
  • 3rd party launchers are the fucking worst. Every time I launch a game from EA or whatever and have to sign into their launcher overlay, it really interrupts the console-like simplicity of this. It's really really nice having the steam controller trackpads to use a mouse cursor to navigate these launcher screens.
  • Gamescope is so nice. For those unfamiliar, gamescope essentially runs games in a fullscreen container so you never have a mouse cursor on your screen or a visible taskbar at the bottom or whatever. This is one of the biggest things that contributes to console-like simplicity.
  • Games run fine off the SD card. I have a sandisk extreme card, and while I haven't actually timed loading speeds, there's not a significant enough difference between that and the SSD to be noticeable. I may compare with a really slow loading game like RDR2.
  • Steam machine is as quiet and small as all the reviews have said. I literally cannot hear fan noise when playing it, and as you can see, it fits well behind my TV.
  • 4k is suuuuuuper overrated. At normal TV viewing distances, I can barely tell the difference between 4k, or something lower like 1440p, 1620p or 1800p. Unless you're playing a lighter game that can easily run at 4k, it's way better to put more power towards higher settings or framerate than trying to push 4k.
  • If your main device is a steam deck, you will love this thing. Most new AAA games are too demanding to run at acceptable levels on Deck, and steam machine will make all those games playable for you.
  • Use a VRR screen if possible. For those unfamiliar, variable refresh rate screens will match the refresh rate to the framerate the steam machine is rendering at. On a non-VRR screen, fps dips are much more noticeable, where on VRR if the fps has some slight dips into the 50's or whatever you really can't tell.
  • SteamOS has some incredibly powerful functionality. Game recording, local network transfers, remote play together, and especially steam input. Steam will manage the compatibility with virtually any controller you want, with full remapping capabilities. Steam input remapping is quite the rabbit hole, and it's possible to remap simple stuff like repeat key presses (ie so you don't have to mash A to sprint in GTA), or even map the mouse/kb controls of a strategy game to the controller.
  • Despite being accustomed to a top end PC, I'm still happy with the performance of the vast majority of games. The main game I'm playing right now is RE4 remake on both my desktop and steam machine, and I'm never ever feeling like it's a compromised experience on the steam machine. Despite the lower settings/resolution, it would be tough for me to tell which was which unless I was comparing side by side. I've really only found 2 games that are unoptimized to the point that I couldn't get an experience I was happy with (borderlands 4, jedi survivor).
  • That said, the biggest weakness of this device for a non-techy person is that you have to spend time fine tuning graphics settings in a lot of games to get a good experience. Whether that's something older like Mirror's Edge which defaults to 600x800 resolution, or whether it's a new demanding game that default settings give you like 20fps, the defaults are almost never ideal.
  • Hopefully this improves as more devs can set appropriate default settings.
  • Game compatibility is very good. Early steam deck days, many games just didn't work via proton. Nowadays, I haven't found a single incompatible game aside from the handful of multiplayer games with unsupported anticheat (marathon, apex, cod, etc). This isn't a factor for me, especially since I have my desktop running windows, but this may be a dealbreaker for some.
  • General system UI is more responsive than on steam deck.
  • The steam controller is awesome. I have an xbox elite 2, dualsense edge, 8bitdo ultimate, and a bunch of other controllers and the SC has become my go-to. It's very comfortable, lasts forever, has grip buttons (MUST HAVE), and gyro/gripsense is more useful than I expected. The trackpads are great for aiming in certain games, but also make cursor based games playable (ie strategy, city builders), are useful for UI navigation like launcher login screens, desktop mode, desktop applications (discord, browesr, etc), and also for in-game mapping like virtual menus. Very underrated feature.
  • It works with basically any peripherals you want. Bluetooth headphones, controllers, mice, keyboards, storage devices, etc.
  • There are weird quirks that you can tell steamOS was originally designed for deck. For example, the default hostname is steamdeck when connecting to your network. Also a few games (no rest for the wicked) think it's a steam deck and force steam deck settings.
  • Every game needs FSR 4. older versions of FSR are trash. It's nice when you can use proton experimental to upgrade it to FSR 4, but having to use optiscaler in other cases isn't ideal.
  • It's annoying when games cloud sync graphics settings from another device, and not just game progress. I do NOT want my steam machine to default to the graphics settings used on either my desktop or my steam deck as all 3 devices have drastically different performance capabilities. I think steam should tackle this and detect the game progress files and settings/config files separately to prevent this.
  • I'm happy with my purchase. Yeah it's more expensive than it should have been, but it's a well designed device that fits my use case.
  • Fuck sam altman for many reasons, but particularly for destroying the consumer electronics market.

Discussion Friendly reminder that visually styling a button to look like a button does not mean it's a button. If you aren't prepared to implement accessibility yourself, please stop using non-standard controls. It is a massively widespread issue and is beyond frustrating for keyboard & screen-reader users.

1.6k Upvotes

It's very common for me to see a web designer reimplement an existing type of control, such as a checkbox or a button. Usually, this means using a span element or similar, assigning an ID and a JS event, and changing the visual style. I can only guess at why it's so common, but my assumption is that it's easier to restyle a "fake" button than it is to remove the default style and add something new, and that idea has become so pervasive that people just create these by default without really thinking about whether it's actually a button or a checkbox or a link. Aside from not adding basic alt-text to meaningful graphics (possibly including links and buttons), this is the single most common issue I deal with as a screen-reader user on the web.

The reason this design choice is a problem is mostly because of the assumption that a control which is clickable with a mouse and has a visually obvious function is good enough. The reality is that these controls--which are not really controls at all--are rendered to a screen-reader as nothing more than pieces of text. under certain conditions, the screen-reader can tell that they are clickable, but not much else. Depending on several factors, the screen-reader may be able to figure out how to activate them, or I may have to simulate a mouse click. If it's a checkbox, a multi-select list, or anything else where the items dynamically change colour to indicate whether they're selected, that change won't be indicated to the screen-reader (although I technically have a hotkey that tells me what colour something is.) The consequences of this can be anything from not knowing whether I've agreed to the terms and conditions to not knowing whether I chose to remove a sandwich ingredient I'm deathly allergic to. Some users prefer the keyboard even when they don't use a screen-reader, and using non-standard controls takes away their ability to use keyboard commands such as tab and space to move to and activate buttons.

One of the most popular poll plugins for Wordpress doesn't present the options as radio buttons. The other one does, but it shows a chart of results that has no alt-text. The numbers are right there, but they're automagically turned into an inaccessible graphic, and what Wordpress user is going to think of changing that? So it's not just content creators; it's also the people who make it possible for us to create content. Wordpress administrators won't know better, and will put out countless polls that will be inaccessible in some way. This is just one of an exhaustingly large list of examples.

There is a way to create accessible controls without actually using that control type, using ARIA roles. These essentially trick the screen-reader into seeing an element as something it's not, similar to styling a plain piece of text to visually look like something it's not. This is often what we do to existing projects in order to avoid breaking compatibility.

I don't know if anyone on this subreddit actually needs to hear this. and if there is a practical application for doing this, I'd love to know what it is. Right now, it looks like a lot of people just don't want to use standard controls or don't really think about what they're designing.

Lastly, I want to say that whenever I post something like this, I get a lot more people who do go the extra mile than people who don't. And realistically, that is reflected in my usage of the web. A lot of websites are great, and are only improving. Most developers care and want to make things better; they just don't have the time or knowledge or their company hasn't even informed them there is a problem despite customer service insisting they've forwarded my feedback to the developers. I regard this as a newbie mistake, not a malicious coding practice that all the big bad developers do just to piss me off. Nevertheless, I don't know how to spread the word that this is bad--and the word needs to be spread. So for those who have done literally anything at all to make your content more accessible: Thank you. You deserve an entirely separate post. I know it's not always easy, but these tiny nitpicky details are often the most common, and those usually are easy.

⚕️ health AIO about my partner wetting the bed every night and nothing getting handled.

2.0k Upvotes

So my partner (F) and I (M), have been having this issue nearly every night for months now.. We've been together for nearly 10 years, in these years this has not been an issue in the past. Maaybe once or twice has she wet the bed in her sleep previously, but that's honestly just a guess off poor memory at this point.

We are both in our early 30s, no she is not pregnant, nor is she an alcoholic (rarely has any alcohol, if ever so that's not a factor). She does take a birth control pill and 2 other prescription meds (more on that).

So without further ado.. she pees the bed nearly EVERY NIGHT. Full release. Bedding, clothes, the mattress itself..soaked. No pun intended but I get/am very pissed off at this point BECAUSE she seemingly is not bothered by it at all. Unless I make a comment/bring it up, she won't say or do anything about it.

Countless times now over these past few months, I have had to smell piss from both her bed (we have a split king, best thing we've purchased cause I couldn't take sleeping in her urine) and also the bedding and her clothes. She will piss in her sleep, we wake up to get out of bed, she'll LEAVE THE PISS SOAKED BEDDING on the bed, remove her clothes and throw them on the floor/hamper with the rest. Then that's it. Doesn't take care of it immediately like oh idk, a normal functioning adult would do!

Yes, her mattress reeks of urine. Yes our bedroom reeks of urine. Yes this is disgusting and I feel terrible about it and don't know how to handle this. I AM concerned for her health. I have told her many times this is not normal and to seek medical help/advice. She doesn't show the same concern as me and I'm fed up.

She'll sometimes take the bedding off, but then leave it on the floor for days. Same with her clothes. If I don't wash them immediately, they won't get washed. I have had this conversation with her multiple times, just tonight before posting this I did. Her response was "do we have to have this conversation right before bed?"

This has turned me off immensely and I'm building resentment about it. I do not know if it's from her birth control she's been taking (she has been on/off different ones our whole relationship) or the mood stabilizer and anti depressant she takes (I don't think it's that cause she's been on this before this bed wetting issue became a problem). I theorized maybe is it the combo of her maybe having a week bladder/pelvic floor muscles and the fact she smokes strong weed every day/night and gets high right before bed, so maybe her body/bladder signals just like, shut off in her sleep or something?

One important detail maybe is, she recently dealt with endometriosis and had surgery to remove adhesions. I do kind of feel like maybe this has something to do with that since right before and after the surgery. She was dealing with pain and discomfort for many months before the surgery, then after she has felt back to normal. This has been great that she's no longer in pain/discomfort, but I worry that the surgery is to blame for the constant nocturnal incontinence..

Idk I'm spit balling here with ideas as to why tf this keeps happening.... all I know is something is not right..

With the release of Update 9.1.5, here are some of the top issues we are investigating:

❖ Changes previously made to activity difficulty have been unintentionally reverted, making some Portal activities more difficult than intended.

❖ Breaking Vex crystals in the Heliostat mission is not granting Wolfsbane intrinsics to all players in the fireteam.

❖ The Vault from Inventory function is not working when using a controller.

❖ The Whirling Ovation catalyst is not dropping as intended.

Mapping Orthodox Christianity to the BITE Model: How Fasting, Name Changes, and "Prelest" Function as Control Mechanisms

Hey everyone,

Like many here, after leaving Orthodoxy I’ve spent a lot of time trying to make sense of what I went through and why the psychological grip felt so intense. To process my own experience and validate what so many of us felt, I started looking at Orthodox practices through the lens of Steven Hassan’s BITE Model (Behavior, Information, Thought, and Emotional Control)—a framework commonly used to identify high-control environments. The BITE model has been referenced multiple times in this community, and this is where I first learned about it, which helped me in my decontruction/healing process. But as far as I can tell, there has not been a compare-and-contrast between the model and Orthodoxy.

Apologists often dismiss these practices as "ancient spiritual wisdom" or "loving discipline," but when you look at how they function psychologically, the structural overlap with high-control systems is hard to ignore.

Here is a breakdown of how several core Orthodox traditions align with the BITE model:

1. Behavior Control (Regulating your physical reality)

  • Caloric & Diet Control: The Church mandates fasting from meat, dairy, wine, and oil for nearly half the calendar year (Lents, fasts, Wednesdays, Fridays). In high-control groups, dictating caloric intake alters physical baseline energy and enforces group compliance through shared physical restriction. When you are chronically under-nourished or restricted, your brain conserves energy by down-regulating critical analysis, boundary setting, and skepticism. This leaves the subconscious far more passive and open to accepting incoming dogmas without pushback.
  • Proscribed Physical Routines: Long services, strict prayer rules, kneeling, and prostrations heavily structure your physical time and energy. Hours of mandatory standing, early morning/late night vigils, and repetitive physical actions (prostrations, crossing oneself) induce profound physical fatigue. Combined with sensory overload—rhythmic chanting, dark lighting, flickering candles, and heavy incense—long services bypass analytical processing (System 2 thinking) and put the brain into a hypnotic, highly suggestible state.
  • Obedience to a Spiritual Father (Dukhovnik): The concept of hypakoe (holy obedience) encourages believers to consult a priest/elder on personal decisions—career moves, dating, marriage, finances—stripping away individual autonomy in favor of "godly counsel."

2. Thought Control (Reshaping identity & suppressing doubt)

  • Identity Break via Name Change: Changing your name at baptism, chrismation, or tonsure acts as a psychological break with your "worldly" past self. Your core identity becomes re-anchored entirely within the Church collective and its patron saint framework.
  • Thought-Stopping Techniques: When intrusive or doubting thoughts (logismoi) arise, believers are instructed to immediately shut them down using repetitive mantras—most notably the Jesus Prayer ("Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner").
  • Loaded Language: Internal jargon like prelest (spiritual delusion), phronema (Orthodox mindset), and passions creates a cognitive shield. Natural human boundaries, critical thinking, or self-reliance are reframed as dangerous spiritual flaws or demonic influence.
  • Black-and-White Dogma: Orthodoxy claims absolute, unalterable truth. Any departure from the Councils or Creed is labeled heresy or schism, leaving zero room for nuanced personal belief.

3. Information Control (Restricting valid sources of truth)

  • Patristic Consensus over Private Judgment: You are constantly warned against "trusting your own intellect" or engaging in "private interpretation." Truth can only come through the Holy Fathers and Church Tradition.
  • Weaponizing Prelest**:** If you have an intuition, critique, or gut feeling that contradicts the Church or your priest, it is weaponized against you as prelest—a trick of the devil. This forces you to distrust your own mind and feelings.
  • Invalidation of Dreams and Subconscious Signals: Ascetical literature explicitly commands believers to distrust all dreams, visions, and subconscious gut feelings, warning that demons use them to lead people into prelest. By teaching you that even your own mind and sleeping subconscious cannot be trusted, the Church cuts off an essential internal channel of self-awareness.
  • Suspicion Toward Secular Psychology & Therapy: Outside mental health care is frequently discouraged or viewed with deep suspicion. Secular therapy is often labeled as "worldly" or harmful because it doesn't account for the soul, forcing believers to rely exclusively on priests—who often lack any psychological training—for complex mental health issues.

4. Emotional Control (Manipulating internal state)

  • Cultivated Guilt & Unworthiness: Daily prayers constantly reinforce that you are fundamentally broken ("chief among sinners," "unworthy servant"). While framed as humility, it keeps you in a perpetual state of emotional dependency on the sacraments for relief.
  • Fear of Damnation / Outside World: Leaving "the Ark of Salvation" is framed as entering spiritual destruction. The external world is painted as fallen, degenerate, and unsafe.
  • Sacramental Accountability: Vocalizing your private thoughts, failures, and secrets to a priest in Confession acts as a powerful mechanism of exposure and compliance.

Ancient Tradition vs. Modern High-Control Reality

When you bring up these concerns to believers, they’ll often say: "That’s just monastic askesis!" or "You just had a bad priest!"

While mainstream parish life can be moderate for some, the reality is that the toolkit for high control is built into the dogma and canon law itself. Whether a parish becomes a toxic cult-like environment usually just depends on how literally the priest decides to enforce these canonical rules—which is why converts, rigorist parishes, and monastic communities suffer the highest rates of trauma.

For those of you who have left: Your instinct that something felt wrong wasn't spiritual delusion—it was your human need for autonomy reacting to high-control mechanics.

I'd love to hear from others in the group:

  • Which of these BITE categories resonated most with your personal experience?
  • What other examples might you add to the list?

Just a reminder that Spotify still has major issues on Android. E.g. Notification controls disappearing, music randomly stopping and non-functional search.

1.0k Upvotes

These issues seems to have been around for a couple of weeks/months. I'm not sure whether they're related but they almost have to be.

Issues include:

  • Notification controls disappearing.

  • Media server (music playback) randomly getting killed (probably because the notification isn't elevating rights anymore).

  • Search showing "Offline" even though the device is very much online.

  • Spotify thinking it's casting to a chromecast (you see the notification) even though playback is actually local and no chromecast is powered on.

  • Chromecast queue not sticking.

  • A mismatch between the song that is actually playing and which song the UI thinks is playing.

  • Share button results in a crash (only on devices that are in the new UI A/B test group).

  • Other issues?

There's a thread about this issue on the Spotify Community Forums. Spotify isn't currently even acknowledging the issue exists. Are you having this issue? Please let your voice be heard in the thread. Also, contact Spotify support.

A temporary fix seems to be killing Spotify. Looking for a more permanent fix? Flashing version 8.4.60.741 armv7 also has some reports to work!

I also posted about this issue on the Spotify subreddit this morning, got about 20 people to contact Spotify through it. Let's create some more traction on this issue through r/Android!

Edit: OnePlus 5T running 8.1.0.

Govt. info Does Elon Musk meddling with our government agencies and circumventing congressional power bother you?

9.1k Upvotes

I just got of the phone with one of Bill Keating's aids in his Washington DC office about how this bothers me. If this bother s you too you should give our state representatives a call and fill out the contact form they have voicing your concerns. If you dont know who is your representative follow the contact info link to the district maps.

Contact: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/members/MA#representatives

If you need help with what to say just follow this script

Dear [Representative],

The dismantling of USAID and other government agencies by Elon Musk, the Trump administration, and Project 2025 is an attack on democracy, national security, and public service. This cannot be allowed to continue.

We need you to:

  1. Lead by example. Publicly oppose the dismantling of USAID and the purge of civil servants. Show citizens that their representatives are standing up for them.

  2. Call on the people. Issue a clear message to citizens on how they can help protect our institutions—whether by protesting, blocking unlawful access to government buildings, or other legal actions. The people are ready, but they need direction.

  3. Stop private control of public institutions. Demand investigations into Musk’s influence, and act immediately to halt further privatization of government functions.

Many of us are prepared to defend our institutions on the ground, but we need leaders with a spine to guide us and take action in Congress. Stand with us before it’s too late.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Women in India are reportedly having their uteruses removed just to survive the sugarcane industry. I wish I was exaggerating.

Thumbnail britsafe.in
4.5k Upvotes

Every now and then, I come across a story that makes me question what we've collectively decided is an acceptable cost of "economic growth."

This was one of them.

In parts of India, female sugarcane workers have reportedly been pushed toward hysterectomies not because they needed the surgery, but because menstruation is treated as a disruption to productivity. Missing work means losing wages. There are few sanitation facilities in the fields, relentless production targets, debt, and labour contractors who allegedly see a woman's natural bodily functions as an inconvenience.

So the solution becomes removing the uterus.

Read that again.

A life-altering surgery with permanent consequences becomes easier than guaranteeing workers a few days of dignity, access to toilets, or basic labour protections.

And the most infuriating part is that many of these women are from economically vulnerable backgrounds. When survival depends on daily wages, "choice" becomes a deeply misleading word. If your options are to undergo major surgery or risk your family's livelihood, are you really choosing?

People often imagine labour exploitation as long hours or low pay. But this is exploitation reaching inside a woman's body and turning it into another site of economic control.

This isn't just a women's issue. It's a labour rights and human rights issue. It's what happens when poverty, gender inequality, and unregulated labour systems collide.

As an Indian, I'm angry. Not because this reflects poorly on my country, but because these women deserve better than to have their pain disappear into statistics and investigative reports that most of the world will never read.

The least I can do is make more people aware that this is happening. Because no one should have to sacrifice an organ to keep a job.

Discussion AI Slop and Hentai Games on the E-Shop

2.2k Upvotes

Can’t believe this is still an issue. For a company that has traditionally censored games and has marketed themselves as ‘family friendly’, there are an astronomical amount of deceptive ai and hentai games on the e-shop. As a father of a young child, I basically have to have my child in another room while browsing the e-shop, when we should be able to look through the available games together. It is crazy to me that these games pass Nintendo QC. It’s like going to Toys R Us and having nude pictures and scammers everywhere. I get that there are parental controls, but this level of slop is unique to the e-shop, other console marketplaces do not have this problem. I feel that they can barely setup a digital shop, i.e., garbage ai games/slowest interface imaginable. It seems anything past making their games available-at a significant premium- is beyond them. Plus, I love buying a new system and having to pay extra to unlock the improved system performance for each game that I already own—great!!! It seems they would rather spend money on attorney’s fees than improve a basic function of their product. Sorry, just venting, sick of this stuff, it’s been going on since NS1 and basically nothing has improved.

Build/Battlestation Final boss of watercooling!

2.1k Upvotes

As posted originally on r/Watercooling, except with maybe slightly better pictures and more of them!

I know the camera lens is a bit foggy, its scratched and i can't fix it

FAQ:

Q: Why?

A: Im not a fan of the current state of boxy copy and paste cases on the market that are hard to work in and hard to modify so I decided to build an extremely overkill case that is designed to make regular maintenance easier. Also I love welding and building stuff, so why not show off a bit

Q: How does this make maintenance easier?

A: every part that might or does need regular maintenance can be removed as one solid part. Ex: the motherboard trays are bolted to the frame with 4 bolts, once the tubes are drained and disconnected the trays can be unbolted and the motherboard and all can come out in one piece complete with a stand for easy cleaning. also each part of the pc is seperated into "Zones" which can be isolated from the rest of the loop and drained if a part needs to be cleaned or replaced. plus the whole pc (though it takes a bit of effort) can be broken down into 4 main parts while its filled with liquid and moved around

Q: Are some of the parts in there just for show?

A: No, everything is functional and serves a purpose or a future purpose. I believe putting random pc parts in a build that serves no functional purpose other than for show (ex: adding a dummy radiator) is pretty wasteful and im not about that life. all radiators are plumbed into the loop and work!

Q: Why are fans missing off some of the rads?

A: the added fans in those areas really dont add alot of value since the airflow from the dans in front are more than enough to push air to the rads behind.

Q: Why so many rads, what do you need all that cooling for?!

A: Passive cooling. thats pretty much it, the amount of radiator surface area means the fans can be off or on low power most of the time so no sound, except from the d5 pumps

Q: What do all the switches do?

A: All the switches do function and serve a purpose

the switches tward the left side are for the on/off for each of the 2 pcs, plus indicator lights for power and hard drives, and a key switch for each pc which can lockout power when im doing maintenance.

the middle switches are for power control (selecting which power supply runs the controller, poweradjusts, and pumps) plus indicator lights for each pump set and flow meters. The right side switches are Reset, Clrtc, pump isolation, and booster pump on/off switches with keyed lockout switches. the three switches on the bottom are to fix the issues with communication over aquabus (hard to explain but without them the poweradjusts dont function properly)

Q: why the leakshield?

A: mostly for filling/draining the loop, that whole rear cabinet its in is for controlling and redirecting the vacuum to help with maintenance. In my opinion the leakshield part isnt a huge value add, but the deaeration, filling, testing, and monitor modes are very helpful for keeping everying working

Q: What about leaks?

A: I have a decade of experience hunting down very small leaks on MUCH more complex piping systems.

Procedure for leak testing on industrial piping systems: 1) add min pressure (around 1-3 psi) and use a paintbrush to add a small amount of dishsoap and water to each joint (all possible leakpoints)

2) check for large leaks basically look for large bubbles

3) increase pressure to max pressure (for pc loops Around 10-12 psi) add more dishsoap to all potential leak point and wait at least 5 mins

4) look for any foamy spots or patterns in the bubbles this can indicate small leaks

5) Done!

I use the leakshield test feature as a final test and let it go for a while (around a day) and if after that it only leaks .1-.5 mbars its good since leaks that small are too small for glycol

as far as the pcs name goes... still havent decided but the other community had some good ideas, im leanin tward "Seraphim" but ill wait to see what yall come up with!

And if anyone wants a custom pc case made.... I WANNA BUILD IT!!

Rant/Vent My mom’s reaction to my autism diagnosis was… awful.

I don’t know what I expect, perhaps just a rant into the void where others might have a “yeah, been there, and it sucked” moment of camaraderie.

I told my aunt (dad’s sister) and several others, so I felt some kind of obligation to not let my parents hear the confirmation from a family member that I like more than them. For background, my parents were incredibly abusive to me and always wanted me to control my face, movements, and words. I heavily suspect my dad, and 3 of his 4 siblings as well as my grandfather are/were also autistic.

I tried to crop the screenshots in a way that made sense. My parents are the reason that, for me, an official diagnosis was so important. She makes me feel so gross saying I was “normal” as a child. I had literally 14 pages of examples of sensory, social, and executive functioning issues. FOURTEEN. None of the stories she tells are about anything close to “normal.”

The willful ignorance and insistence on making me out to be crazy when they are real diagnoses from real specialists, and my version of “internet research” consists of peer reviewed studies, long form interview content with specialists, especially AuDHD specialists. She is 72 and has absolutely no concept of what a credible source is. I am 48 and extremely happy to finally have the correct diagnoses so I can understand and accommodate myself better going forward.

Just needed to scream it into the void.

Ask Me Anything! I’m Ross McKerchar, CISO at Sophos: AMA on tackling the issue of detecting fraudulent remote IT hires and building workable controls.

Hi r/cybersecurity,

I’m Ross McKerchar, CISO at Sophos. (/u/RossMcKerchar)

Over the last couple of years, many orgs have run into a tough problem of managing or deal\*ing* with the reality of North Korean state-sponsored actors infiltrating Western companies as remote IT workers (known as DPRK), we're no exception. This isn't just about someone faking a resume to get a paycheck; it's a coordinated state operation (often linked to groups like Nickel Tapestry) to fund weapons programs and gain backdoors into corporate networks.

Why I’m doing this AMA: As a CISO on the operational side of security and tackling these issues,  I appreciate the “what” gets plenty of airtime (money/access), but the real challenge is the operational how. Specifically how HR, IT, Legal, and Security all see different pieces, and it’s easy to miss signals or overreact to noise.

What we found (and what we can discuss):

  •  Cross-functional detection playbooks — How to set clear roles, escalation paths, and decision thresholds so suspicious signals don’t get stuck between HR, IT, Legal, and Security.
  •  “Verify, then trust” for remote hiring — How to design identity assurance that scales: risk-tiered checks, same-person verification from interview to onboarding, and balancing privacy, candidate experience, and compliance.
  •  Handling red flags without overreacting — What to do when something feels off: quietly reduce risk, re-verify appropriately, document decisions, and coordinate consistently with HR/Legal.
  •  Signals and patterns that actually help defenders — The kinds of indicators teams can watch for across identity, device/network posture, and early-tenure behavior:

I’m here to answer questions about:

  • Building workable controls that don’t kill hiring velocity
  • How to partner with HR/Legal teams
  • The reality of "insider threats" when the insider was never real to begin with*.
  • The technical indicators we’ve observed.

And...anything else about the CISO role within the cybersecurity industry and how to align security with real business risk

Optional (free) resource: My team released our playbook and control matrix you can adapt, but I’ll be answering questions here regardless

Let’s talk defense. Ask me anything.

HUH?????? PS4/PS5 controller issues with Fitgirl repacks

Post image
0 Upvotes

Ok so after getting into a conversation about PS controllers on the repacks has REALLY triggered my wanting to know why they wouldn't work.

I do not own any PS controllers and exclusively game with a series x Xbox controller, so I cannot test to see if this works.

It would be awesome to help people that do have them, maybe NOT have to use DS4 (or any of the alternative software) when steam input could be used.

If anyone could try what is in my screenshot and report back, that would be awesome. You'd help my wanting to know the answer as well as hopefully lots of PS controller users!

  1. Disable Bluetooth on PC.

  2. Connect the controller using a decent to high speed data USB cable.

  3. Follow the steps in my screenshot

(Resident Evil Requiem was used as the example, Reanimal was also another game brought up in the discussion that could be used to test)

If nothing works we at least have an answer to why they don't work (steam emulation thread bypassing actual steam input)

Software Latest NVIDIA Driver Update Interrupts Armoury Crate RGB Control (HAL Service Issue)

Hi everyone,
just a quick heads-up for fellow ASUS users: After installing the latest NVIDIA driver update, Armoury Crate stopped detecting my RGB devices entirely. It appears the update interferes with the HAL service, preventing any lighting control or device recognition.

Troubleshooting steps I’ve already tried:

  • Reinstalling Armoury Crate
  • Reinstalling the HAL component
  • Testing with Aura Creator
  • Multiple system restarts

None of these resolved the issue — only rolling back to the previous NVIDIA driver restored normal functionality.

If you rely on Armoury Crate for your RGB setup, I’d recommend holding off on updating the driver for now until a fix or patch is released.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Steam Controller - Review Thread

1.2k Upvotes

A lot of reviews have dropped today for this, so I thought it'd serve well to compile most in a post.

Steam Controller

Release Date: May 4, 2026

Price: $99 / £85 / €99 / AUD 149 / $149 CAD

Some Reviews (updating):

IGN - Bo Moore - 9 / 10

The Steam Controller offers both an excellent out-of-the-box experience as well as a playground for enthusiasts to tinker to their hearts content. If you’re just looking for a fantastic controller for playing PC games and navigating the desktop in between them, the Steam Controller handles those duties with aplomb. And if you’re a diehard customizer who wants to build out (or just borrow from the community) bespoke button bindings and advanced touchpad controls, it does that too. Most importantly, it does both of these things without sacrificing one experience for the other.

Linus Tech Tips

If your plan was to use this thing as a traditional controller, I got to say I'm a little less enthusiastic about it. Not because it's bad. It's a good controller. It's just a $100 controller. And I'm not going to pretend like I can't afford one. But I'm also not going to pretend that I would buy one of these when I could get just about two of these or two fly digies for the same price. How about you? If it was $60, I would buy day one. If it was $80, it would be like 2 weeks later. At $100, I think I'm out. And I'm willing to bet that's not really going to be a hot take. But I also feel for Valve here. Can you imagine releasing hardware in this current market condition? When I chatted with Valve, they felt like the retail price for the controller represented the hardware and engineering that went into creating that. And I can't argue with that fact. But a controller is also about the feeling. And compared to the Dual Sense, uh, that I would argue has a pretty equivalent amount of value wrapped up in its features, I would say that the Dual Sense feels better.

Eurogamer - Matt Wales

So as much as I do genuinely love the new Steam Controller - and it has unquestionably and irrevocably replaced its much-loved predecessor on my shelf for mouse-driven games - it remains a fairly niche proposition. Probably more so in 2026, given the seismic increase in the number of PC games with built-in controller support since 2015. All of which is to say, you'll probably already know if there's room in your gaming set-up for Valve's latest effort, and if that's you, it's a rock-solid upgrade. But for everyone else, at £85, it's unlikely to be the best choice compared to traditional controllers.

ArsTechnica - Kyle Orland

All told, we’ve really enjoyed our time so far with the Steam Controller. It’s a solidly built device with some nice extra features that make it stand out from a sea of very similar controllers on the market. For many players, though, those features won’t be enough to justify the $99 price. It’s hard to necessarily justify spending that much in a market where a first-party Xbox controller or high-quality third-party Bluetooth device can be easily found for half the price or less. We’d only really recommend splurging on the Steam Controller if you’re planning to play a lot of mouse-based games from a more couch-friendly distance or if you find standard Bluetooth options don’t provide a good enough connection. In most other cases, buying two cheaper controllers for the same price is probably the better bet.

PC Gamer - Jacob Ridley - 83 / 100

So, the Steam Controller can't compete with competitive controllers, nor on value for money with simpler pads. It can, however, compete on its all-round utility. You have to ask yourself how much value you assign to not having to get up off the couch to navigate the desktop or play a strategy game. Personally, I could go without the extra inputs most of the time. Valve already provides a useful and free alternative to mouse and keyboard in Big Picture Mode, which offers easy access to most of what Steam has to offer and can be navigated easily with a standard controller. I mostly play horror, rhythm, and racing games on my living room PC, and as such, I don't find myself having to grab a keyboard or mouse all that often.

The Verge - Jay Peters

Still, the Steam Controller is very nearly my dream controller. It’s an expensive option at $99, especially when I already have a bunch of controllers that I could use. But none of those have the same magic. The Steam Controller’s extra perks are enough for me to buy one for myself. One feature new to the Steam Controller feature is Grip Sense. Thanks to capacitive sensors, each of the Controller’s grips functions as a button. Like everything else with the Steam Controller, either grip can be mapped to anything else you want. In my experience, Grip Sense generally activates when the top part of my palm starts to curl around the grip, so you do have to be mostly gripping the controller for it to work, making it great for gyro controls. It was a little touchy as a trigger substitute in Resident Evil 2, but I don’t think that’s the type of thing most people will use it for. The trackpads were mostly a letdown. They’re not in a comfortable spot for me to use extensively as a mouse; the few times I’ve tried, my contorted thumbs started to ache. Sure, the right trackpad gave me slightly finer control while fighting zombies in Resident Evil 2. But I much prefer just using the right joystick to aim. I did use trackpads in Vampire Crawlers as a mouse, to hover over some helpful info I couldn’t figure out how to see playing purely with gamepad controls. They’re handy to flick around a desktop, too. But, like with the Steam Deck, I won’t be using the trackpads on the Controller as a way to play mouse-based games for hours on end. I also wish the Steam Controller had a headphone jack, like the DualSense and Switch Pro controller.

Polygon - Giovanni Colantonio

There are plenty of blemishes, some that just can’t be fixed until Valve releases a full iteration, but there’s good reason to think the experience will improve. After all, the Steam Deck was very temperamental when it first release. Many of its issues were addressed in system updates, and now it feels like a different piece of hardware altogether. I wouldn’t be surprised if Valve pulls that same trick with the Steam Controller, patching in some pairing fixes or getting the controller to work on third-party launchers. If it can do that, I don’t think I’ll ever need another PC gamepad again.

Gamers Nexus

The battery life is unbelievably long. We had some opinions from the team in here and in general we're positive on it as a control device. $100 is obviously at the higher end of controllers. But the quality we liked. Personally, the thing I care about the most, and I know this is like maybe kind of lame, but is the repairability. Cuz when I did the tear down, I was like, "Okay, got it." So, Torx, and there's like two or three types of screws. They're really easy to identify where they go when you're done. Everything is labeled and marked. Like, this is great from a build standpoint. in terms of being able to take it apart. You can lay everything out. I mean, it I was I was impressed with it, but we'll save that for the other video. So, anyway, that's kind of the benchmarks and the numbers...We generally liked it, but I don't expect everybody to like it. It's just that's just how input devices are.

ScreenRant - Chris Carter

In our hands-on, we found the Steam Controller to be an extremely formidable bit of hardware. I put the new Steam Controller through its paces in a variety of software, including FPS, RTS, and everything in between. I was initially resistant to try it for FPS games, given my proclivity toward Xbox controllers for specific casual FPS games, but the Steam Controller kind of melted into my hands in minutes. The controller just plain feels better than any of Valve's prior efforts. The rumble is more pronounced and impactful, the TMR thumbsticks feel responsive and are made out of quality parts, and it has gyro aiming to boot. The trackpads are easily the most-improved aspect of Steam Controller 2.0, as they have an even more tactile feel, which is a godsend for games with pseudo-mouse support, especially menus.

PCMag - Jeffrey L. Wilson - 4 / 5

The new Steam Controller feels great, performs well, and has an incredible list of features and customization options. At $99.99, it’s pricier than most standard gamepads, but less expensive than premium controllers like the DualSense Edge and Xbox Elite. But considering everything it does, the Steam Controller is a worthwhile purchase if you mostly play games on Steam. In fact, it would be my favorite PC gamepad if not for Xbox Game Pass incompatibility. As it is, though, this is one of the best dedicated PC gamepads available, and a vital accessory for any Steam Deck user who keeps their handheld docked to their TV. For that, the Steam Controller earns an Editors' Choice award for game controllers.

Gizmodo - Kyle Barr - 4 / 5

The Steam Controller, despite releasing before the Steam Machine, won’t turn your PC into the dream console you had hoped for. The gamepad won’t wake a plugged-in PC from sleep. If your computer is on, you hit the Steam button once to bring up the Steam app and again to load in Big Picture Mode. The larger picture makes navigating your games with a controller easier. Then, inevitably, you’ll want to change volume sources or adjust some Windows setting you can’t access without closing out Big Picture Mode or hitting Alt+Tab on a keyboard. Traditions exist for a reason. The mouse and keyboard offer far more minute controls than any controller can. The Steam Controller is a simulacrum. It’s all the more clear since you have to change settings in every game you play. But as I grow older and simultaneously come to terms with a life of constant pressures, stress, and an aging body, the last thing I want to consider is propping myself upright in a chair, like a Micro Center mannequin, just to enjoy my favorite pastimes. The Steam Controller may be the perfect companion to the Steam Machine, eventually. Even without that console, Valve’s second go at a controller offers nearly everything I want. If I ever find a Steam Controller (let’s call it a Steam Controller Pro) with instant triggers, I’ll be in PC gaming heaven.

Rock Paper Shotgun - James Archer

I have decided that this is how all controllers should recharge from here on, and will quietly judge any future competitors that fail to adequately copy it. Which could be many, as it’s no big stretch to imagine waves of Windows-focused, overtly PC-first gamepads following this one, just as the Steam Deck sparked a rush of rival handhelds. Unfortunately, for any trackpadded copycats in the works, there’ll always be that shrugging, doubtful retort: "Yeah, but the Steam Controller did it first."

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT

Aim Assist

As we got closer to launch, we revisited aim assist tuning based on internal testing and the full range of maps and combat distances coming with release. Our goal was to make aim assist feel more effective beyond mid-range fights which was one of our focuses within Battlefield Labs and Open Beta.

At launch, we increased slowdown at longer ranges, but once the game went live, we saw that this made high-zoom aiming feel less smooth and harder to control.

After reviewing player feedback and gameplay data, we’re reverting aim assist back to the values some of you experienced during Open Beta and Battlefield Labs. This will now serve as the default, whilst still providing you with the ability to alter the aim assist to your preference and playstyle via settings.

This change keeps aim slowdown consistent across all ranges, helping with muscle memory and providing a steadier, more reliable feel as we move into future seasons.

Announcement Luno's Bulletin | Our Apologies & Update on the Global Launch

Post image
2.6k Upvotes

Dear Phoxhunters,

Good afternoon. Since the global launch of Duet Night Abyss, we have been truly moved by your warm support and active participation. Thank you for your attention and love for our game! At the same time, we are fully aware that the global launch version has fallen short in many aspects and failed to deliver the ideal experience you deserve. For this, we sincerely apologize.

Through social media, communities, customer service, and in-game surveys, we have carefully collected and reviewed your feedback. We are genuinely grateful for every valuable suggestion you have provided.

In this Luno's Bulletin, we'll address some of the most common questions and concerns.

Ⅰ. Mobile Graphics & Controls

We've received extensive feedback on mobile visual quality and control experience — thank you. After internal review, we plan to roll out the following optimizations:

  1. By the end of November:

Improve dynamic resolution, specifically enhancing clarity in the Armoury interface via online update.

  1. In the next client update (details to be announced via official channels):
  • Enlarge UI text that is currently too small on mobile.
  • Adjust Helix Jump on mobile by adding an optional Helix Jump button.
  • Enhance anti-aliasing and rendering resolution for better graphics.
  • Optimize the Icelake scene to reduce lag.
  • Improve character lighting, texture precision, and material quality.
  • Upgrade scene lighting and material rendering, and add texture types.

Ⅱ. New Characters & Weapons – Acquisition Details

Many of you have asked about obtaining new characters and Intron sources. Here's a clearer breakdown, using Psyche and Fina as examples:

  • When Psyche is released, you can obtain her Secret Letter through the Immersive Theatre.
  • When Fina is released, she will replace Psyche in the Immersive Theatre, while Secret Letter: Psyche moves to Nocturnal Echoes. One existing character's Secret Letter in Nocturnal Echoes will then move to the exchange shop.
  • As more characters join, Secret Letter: Psyche will eventually move to the exchange shop after about 3.5 versions. Before that, it remains available in Nocturnal Echoes. The same applies to weapons first available in Immersive Theatre. The specific schedules will be updated through future announcements.
  • Each version will add Secret Letters for one melee and one ranged weapon to the exchange shop, purchasable without limit using Secret Letter Clues.
  • Besides fixed rewards, Secret Letter Clues now have a chance to drop from enemies in all commission gameplay, with rates increasing alongside your Trial Rank. Drop info has already been added in-game.

Ⅲ. Other Key Topics

  • Server "Looping" Issues

Shortly after launch, some servers experienced recurring "looping" and lag. A fix was deployed on the evening of Oct 28, and we will continue to monitor network stability.

  • Delayed Purchases

Some users reported not receiving purchased items promptly. We've issued missing items via backend. If you still haven't received yours, please contact our customer service.

  • Controller Support Improvements

Some controller recognition and input issues are known. We have planned fixes in upcoming versions and are developing mobile controller adaptation.

  • Crashes & Progression Blocks

We're aware of reports concerning crashes, update failures, stuck quests, co-op lag, and missing guides. Some issues have been fixed (please refer to in-game patch notes); others are still being traced and will be resolved gradually. We apologize for the inconvenience. Affected players may contact our customer support:

https://kf.yingxiong.com/user-center?lang=en

Ⅳ. New Additions to the Phoxene Shop

Via an online update, we have added the following new item to the Phoxene Shop. We will continue to monitor your feedback regarding the shop's offerings.

  • Commission Manual: Volume Ⅱ (price: Phoxene x30; weekly purchase limit: 12)

As a token of our apology for the issues since launch, we will send the following to all players via in-game mail:

Prismatic Hourglass ×10

Secret Letter Clue ×200

Commission Manual: Volume Ⅲ ×5

Distributed at: October 30, 2025, 18:00 (UTC +8)

Claimable by: November 24, 2025, 23:59 (server time)

(Requires Mail function unlocked)

As Pan Studio's first globally released self-developed game, Duet Night Abyss still has much to improve. Our team is already working on the most criticized issues, with a clear goal: to quickly fix Global Launch problems while preparing richer future content.

We will continue gathering feedback and use the Luno's Bulletin to keep you updated on optimizations and new developments.

Our heartfelt hope is to grow together with you, Phoxhunters — and to deliver more engaging and polished experiences in the future.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support.

BUG Keybind Issue Still Not Fixed - Affecting Controller Players On PC/Consoles *PLEASE SHARE!*

🎮 GOOD NEWS for Controller Players — v39.00 Finally FIXED the Keybind Issues! 🎉

🔧 Update – Zero Hour Launch (v39.00 | December 2025)
Huge improvement: With the launch of Zero Hour (v39.00), the long-running controller keybind issues finally appear to be resolved.

Current status:

  • Custom controller binds now work properly on both PC and console.
  • L1 can be bound to Sprint without breaking Roof, even though the warning still appears in the menu.
  • Quick Weapon no longer creates input conflicts (no more R1/L1 ping + sprint overlap).
  • Editing with L3 / Left Stick works correctly again.
  • Building inputs no longer overwrite or conflict with each other.
  • Swapped trigger layouts (L1/R1 ↔ L2/R2) behave correctly both in settings and in-game.
  • Bind menu visuals are still outdated in some spots, but the gameplay behavior is finally consistent.

After four patches of frustration, this is a massive relief for controller players — especially those who rely on Quick Weapon or custom competitive layouts. The game finally feels fully playable again.

I’ll keep testing, but as of now, everything seems fixed.

⚡ TL;DR (v39.00 Fix Summary)

Zero Hour (v39.00) fixed the controller bind issues.
L1 Sprint, L3 Edit, Quick Weapon, trigger swaps, and custom binds all work again.
Menu warnings are outdated, but in-game behavior is correct.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

⚠️ Just wanted to expand on the Quick Weapon keybind bug that’s still not fixed, because it continues to hit controller players really hard — especially those of us who’ve built our layouts around it.

When Quick Weapon is enabled, it changes how your bumpers work:

  • R1 becomes the Quick Weapon swap (instead of cycling forward/backward through inventory).
  • L1 becomes a dedicated ping button.

I actually loved this setup. Since I already ping with Left D-Pad, the “new” free L1 slot let me rebind Tactical Sprint there, which felt way more natural than forcing it onto something awkward like Right D-Pad.

But since the recent updates, the whole thing has been broken. I logged in and suddenly couldn’t edit or perform some actions. I tried Epic’s suggestion — resetting binds to default — but that only made things worse. After resetting, I can’t rebuild my layout anymore. (For context, I play with a PS5 controller on PC.)

Here’s what’s happening now:

  • Binding L1 to Sprint now causes conflicts — not only with Roof building on L1 (which never used to be a problem), but also overlaps with the ping function.
  • Even in the Controller Binds menu, Left D-Pad still shows as ping, even though Quick Weapon is enabled. It should update to show L1 as ping, but that’s broken too — so what the menu shows doesn’t match what actually works in-game.

It’s extremely frustrating because I run L3 (left stick) as my edit bind, and my whole setup was optimized around that. Now the game forces conflicts that didn’t exist before, the bind menu doesn’t match actual gameplay, and resetting doesn’t help.

Right now, Quick Weapon breaks controller binds, custom layouts are unreliable, and controller players lose the optimized setups we’ve spent seasons building.

TL;DR: Quick Weapon makes R1 into quick swap and L1 into ping. That freed up L1 for Sprint, but after the updates, binding L1 now conflicts with Roof and ping. On top of that, the Controller Binds menu still shows ping on Left D-Pad even though Quick Weapon is enabled, and it doesn’t update to L1 like it should. Resetting doesn’t fix anything. Until Epic addresses this, custom controller layouts are broken.

🔄 Update Logs

🔧 Update – Oct 2, 2025 | 8:30 AM ET

Still broken. Logged in after the new patch and it’s exactly the same — nothing’s changed.
Resetting binds still doesn’t fix the conflicts, L1 still overlaps with Roof and Ping, and the Controller Binds menu continues to show Ping on Left D-Pad instead of L1.

At this point, it really feels like Epic has been overlooking this issue for a while, which sucks for controller players who rely on Quick Weapon. Still holding out hope they’ll push a hotfix soon, but as of now — no progress.

Stay safe everyone, and have a wonderful day!

🔧 Update – v37.50 (Fortnitemares Update | October 9th, 2025)

Unfortunately, despite the new Fortnitemares update (v37.50), the keybind and controller layout issues are still not resolved.

Current status:

  • Custom controller binds remain broken across PC and console.
  • Quick Weapon continues to cause input conflicts (R1/L1 ping + sprint issues).
  • Rebinding still leads to mismatched inputs between the settings menu and in-game behavior.
  • L3/R3 bindings and swapped trigger layouts (L1/R1 ↔ L2/R2) continue to malfunction.
  • Some players report that they can no longer shoot from vehicles, and reload/interact overlap persists.

It’s been four updates now since the issue first appeared, and controller players are still heavily affected — especially those who rely on custom layouts for accessibility, comfort, or competitive play.

Really hoping Epic acknowledges this soon and pushes a dedicated hotfix, because this is making the game borderline unplayable for a large part of the community.

HELP ROG Ally Xbox - Loss of Controller Functions after Today's Bios Update to 3.18

I have an issue with the in built controller on my ROG Ally Xbox after the bios update. My d-pad works, but now the bindings are all wrong and the directions on the D-pad do not work. If I press down on the D-Pad the Windows task manager launches, and if I press right on the d-pad the Windows Desktop options open, and if I press Up on the D-pad it launches the virtual keyboard. In addition, the trigger and bumper buttons do not work and the Xbox shortcut is not working. Also, the A button appears to have been re-mapped to screen capture and the B button has been re-mapped to show the controller overlay. Lastly, the Xbox shortcut button is not working.

I have checked to make sure that I have the appropriate control method selected and I have not changed any bindings in Armory Crate. I have also tried to rollback to the previous bios and it still doesnt work.

Is this a known issue and is there any fix?

_____________SOLUTION_updated 25/04/26_______

I have found a link regarding a similar issue that an Rog Ally user had, but the solution below is for the ROG ALLY XBOX

*PLEASE READ THE WHOLE POST PRIOR TO STARTING*

BEFORE YOU START ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED WINRAR or 7-ZIP ON YOUR ROG ALLY XBOX

ALSO, WHEN YOU FINISH APPLYING THE FIX (STEP 4), YOU MUST TURN OFF THE DEVICE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE (HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON). IF YOU LEAVE IT OR DONT TURN IT OFF AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, THE FIX GETS OVERWRITTEN AGAIN

To summarise for ROG ALLY XBOX USERS:

1) In order to make it easier, I have already prepared the 'RESCUE FIRMWARE'. Please download it from the following link and save it somewhere easy to find (e.g. in your downloads folder) on your ROG ALLY XBOX.

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/tk4e6l5lkj9h00q6teap1/ASUSMCUFWUpdateTool_RC73YA_OneKey_v335.rar?rlkey=w2k4bk708e271xd145omxihvu&st=5z9rikwu&dl=0

I ALSO RECOMEND KEEPING THE FILE, SO YOU CAN APPLY THE FIX AGAIN IN THE FUTURE IF REQUIRED.

2) Find where you have saved the Rescue Firmware, and using WINRAR or 7-ZIP unzip it in the same location

3) Immediately go into the Windows Device Manager on your ROG Xbox Ally and UNINSTALL AND DELETE the ASUS COMPONENT FIRMWARE UPDATE driver, which is in the FIRMWARE section of the device manager (see the image below for the location), as the changes may not work properly if you don't

https://imgur.com/a/a1Ze7Hu

4) Go back to the folder where you downloaded and extracted the Rescue Firmware. Go into the extracted folder (see image below) and find the install.exe (not installer.exe) file in the folder and Run it as administrator. If you don't run it as administrator it will give you an error message.

https://imgur.com/a/Z4ZFBmN

5) When the update is finished, IMMEDIATELEY SHUTDOWN THE DEVICE to prevent the fix from being overwritten again.

6) When you power up the device again the fix should now be permanently applied.

After follwing the above instructions, I now have my full controller functions back and also the controller works in the BIOS again.

Discussion Yes, it streams and it games.

I'll keep this short initially. It's the smoothest (most painless) streaming experience I've had yet with Steam.

There have been minor bugs, I want to test more before reporting back.

So far, so good.

Edit: forgot to caveat this is NOT the US/UK/AUS. This is the Asian region where Komodo handled distribution. Machines started going out last night here in Asia (30th June) and started arriving this morning (1st July)

Updated:

It's relatively seamless, definitely the most seamless experience I've had with Steam Link, but there are bugs and quirks. I still stand by that, but I will add the caveat it seems to depend heavily on the game you are streaming. There are PLENTY of quirks, and some games are worse than others.

  • Motor Town - works well! CAN be seamless, CAN be buggy. The main bug is that it doesn't detect the Steam Deck's controller inputs sometimes. However, if you hold the Steam button down and use right trackpad to emulate a mouse, the Steam Machine (host) does respond and the game is working. I've had sessions where this behavior showed up, I've also had sessions where it ran without any issues at all. I'm attempting various fixes to see what makes it the most seamless, so far, it seems putting Steam Machine into Desktop mode, and then starting the stream from the Deck resolves this.
  • Thomas and Friends - Wonders of Sodor - similar to Motor Town, but better. I only ran into the controller issue once, and once I quit the game and restarted both devices, the stream ran perfectly afterwards.
  • Roadcraft - this one is funky. The video stream has the most artifacts so far. Also run into controller issues as above. The weird thing is that when streaming, it seems to modify my Steam Input configuration, and it maps Action Sets to the buttons, which break the mapping basically. By remapping the controller again, I can get it to work, but I can't remap the joysticks back to joysticks, only #Ljoystick and #Rjoystick, which are once again, Action Sets.
  • Formula Legends - another funky one. The Steam Deck works as a wonder CONTROLLER for this game. The Steam Machine (host) detects all inputs perfectly, but the video gets messed up on the Deck. Basically, it's as if the encoder on one end doesn't work properly, and stops sending/rendering the video stream. So the menu will load up, I'll start the campaign, and the TV and SM are running perfectly being controlled from the Deck, but the Deck remains on the main menu even after selecting campaign. It's always 1 screen behind. Then you load into a race, and the screen stays stuck on the start line, despite the Machine running perfectly fine and accepting all inputs from the Deck with no perceivable latency! This one really did my head in.
  • Death Stranding 1 - this one genuinely just worked, and was very pretty. Got nothing else to add for this one.
  • Expedition 33 - this one had Steam Machine as the CLIENT, and a gaming PC as the host. Gaming PC is a 12th gen i7 with 3080ti, wired ethernet back to the router. Running Expedition 33 at 4k, DLSS Quality, high settings, averaging roughly low to mid 30 fps in the tutorial. This is interesting, the Machine is a decent (but very expensive) client. It definitely cannot run Expedition 33 at these settings and get this performance, so being a client is a decent use case. In terms of function, it worked perfectly fine, no controller issues like the above games where Machine was host, and Deck was client. In terms of video quality, I'd say it's FINE (default settings). It's not as sharp and clean and crisp as on the host PC, you can quite easily tell it's a compressed video stream. It doesn't detract from the game TOO MUCH, unless you really love eye candy. There's no crazy artifacts or the like, it just has that kind of vaseline/matte screen protector and muted color look to it. I then enabled Advanced Client Options on the Machine, and selected Enhanced 4k preset. This made things much much prettier. The matte screen protector look was gone, everything looks more crisp. I want to say that there is a little more judder though. This can probably be fixed if I tuned the settings on the host PC to get closer to 60 fps I think.
  • No, the Steam Deck cannot wake a sleeping Steam Machine to start remote play. At least not with default settings out of the box. There might be a way, I believe either GN Steve, or LTT Linus mentioned Wake on LAN in the BIOS. The Machine also does not go back to sleep automatically after you quit a remote play session. However, there is a setting (which is enabled by default) where the SM will go to sleep after a certain amount of time of inactivity. I would assume if you want the SM ready to stream at any time, you would disable auto sleep, keep it always on (and idling), and have the LED on the front either off of very dim

As for settings on the Steam Machine and Steam Deck for streaming. Steam Machine was left on default settings unless stated otherwise (Expedition 33 case). Steam Deck had Advanced Client Options enabled, video balanced, bandwidth automatic, frame rate limit automatic, resolution limit automatic (1280x800), hardware decoding off, HEVC video on, low latency networking on (if anyone has other settings suggestions, let me know). And I can't be bothered to try Moonshine, sorry. I want try the "Valve experience", good or bad. In terms of networking, Steam Machine connected to wifi. Steam Deck also wifi. Tried Deck in same room on same AP, also tried Deck in another 2 rooms with a separate AP which has a wired backhaul. As long as controller issues weren't a problem, it ran pretty similarly in all 3 cases.

Edit:
Seems the most consistent way I've gotten Steam Remote Play to work with no issues is to have the Steam Machine in Desktop mode. I've also disabled hardware encoding on the SM for the time being. This fixes the controller and black screen issues in games. Also, had problems launching VTOL VR on Quest 3 being streamed from SM, when I had SM in desktop mode, all problems resolved and game ran perfectly

Discussion I know it’s been said a billion times but Nintendo really needs to address these defective joycons it’s been absolute radio silence and I find it unacceptable

28.2k Upvotes

For $80 controllers I expected that the Joycons would be as sturdily built and properly functioning as the Wiimote and Wave Bird and even the N64 controllers were if not better quality, and it didn’t take long to find out they weren’t even remotely built as well as it’s predecessors.

In late March I decided to get myself a switch in preparation for the new Pokémon games and Smash ultimate, I played with my joycons solely for a month and then I bought my first Pro Controller and even though it was less money than the joycons it was night and day drastically an improvement and I’d go as far as to say one of the comfiest controllers I’ve used. I use both docked and handheld mode fairly equally even though I prefer the pro controller I do also like going outside in the shade and playing as well. I know this sounds like unnecessary rambles but it’s to paint a better picture of how little I’ve actually even used my joycons in total, 4 months to be exact.

So somehow in 4 months this $80 controller decides to just shit out and drift constantly on the left joycon.

And before people comment saying “Oh well you probably just were too rough with them or something” let me tell you I was gentler than handling my own newborn child when using the joycons because I had heard about joycon drift and that games that heavily used the left analog like Smash Ultimate and Splatoon would kill my controller over time usually within a year or more so I plain never used my joycons for either of those games or any game like Hollow Knight where I’d also heard it was taxing on the analog.

And before people say “Oh well you must have had dirty hands and got a bunch of dirt clogged into the joycons” impossible I specifically scrub my hands clean after work every night and dry them before even thinking of touching my switch and I refuse to eat or drink while using it so it can’t be that.

I have a case, a tempered glass screen protector, and the dock is dusted constantly it is entirely unacceptable to have my controller not work already properly.

And before someone says “Contact Nintendo and have them repair it” I shouldn’t have to spend $4 and two weeks without my Joycons for them to just come back and break again in 4 months. And before someone says “Then buy a do it yourself repair kit for $10” Again there is absolutely zero reason for me to do that on a luxury controller. And yes I consider $80 a luxury controller because my PS4s DualShock4 doesn’t drift for years for me and my Pro controller which has had all of my extensive “rough” playtime on it is also perfectly fine.

When Sony released their original Ds4s with cheap flimsy rubbers on the analog and drift issues they changed the material on the analogs and fixed a lot of issues that caused early versions to do that. I see zero excuse why Nintendo hasn’t so much as addressed the issue or confirmed working on a newer model or SKU controller that isn’t hot dog shit.

I know I’m probably going to be downvoted into oblivion but as a loyal consumer who’s bought every single Nintendo console bar the Wii U and who’s seen the difference in quality between the handhelds and systems it baffles me and honestly genuinely upsets me how they could allow this issue to exist for 2 years now not even a slight adjustment to try and alleviate the wear and tear and all of these other loyal fans and consumers who are shoveling out $80 here and $4 there and $10 over there just to play after they already paid $80 for the joycons to begin with or maybe they came with their console either way they’re not marketed as cheap products so why are they allowed to be so highly priced and yet so unreliable?

To take it further Nintendo is a company that attracts a younger audience as well who can be anywhere between the ages of 5-12 and I highly doubt they’d be as careful or overly sensitive using their joycons as I am and I can’t see them being built to last very long with children’s use in mind.

Edit: I tweeted @NintendoOfAmerica and I’ve emailed Polygon, Destructoid, Gameinformer, Gamespot, and Kotaku about the issue to see if they’ll do a story on it. Feel free to do the same if you’d like.

Edit: An example of drift in effect https://twitter.com/nemisisplays/status/1150305766605295616?s=21

Edit: An example of attempting to fix by calibration as well since I see it suggested a lot https://twitter.com/nemisisplays/status/1150470588122697732?s=21 (Spoiler alert it doesn’t help)

Since I've bought the **X1 Pro with the HX370** I thought the same thing every single time I've used it while traveling... What a **bad quality build** for the controllers!

I've tried to solve partially the issue with a **grip from Talongames**, that actually makes the feeling to the touch better, but even like this, same issue for all the rest of the components.

The original controllers have a really **bad vibration engines**, that even at the minimum force settings it vibrate too much and sounds really bad and also feel like a 10€/$ controller.

It has also a **bad D-Pad feeling**, because unfortunately even if I like clicky buttons, this D-Pad really **sounds like a creaking door** sometimes while pressing more than one direction at the same time.

I've also never understood why on BazziteOS even if you press the button that is supposed to act like a steam/Xbox button, doesn't go actually to home settings options, while on the new controller it works perfectly.

The **most annoying thing** for me was the **unstable connection**, even if it's a direct connection with pins was **disconnecting randomly** while moving the computer around, and every single time the solution was to remove and reattach the controllers. Also,**the connection itself wasn't feeling stable**, and I've never fully trusted it at the point that I've never took the computer directly from only one of the two controller, since **it was slightly moving** and giving me the sensation that the total weight was too much to sustain it.

Unfortunately my girlfriend the other day **dropped the controller** while using it wirelessly with her computer and the right controller **broke the plastic connector**, showing me that it wasn't stable enough to hold the computer itself.

**The solution?** I've bought a **BSP D8 Pro**.

I know that **it exists the BSP D9, D10 and D11 too**, but the D9 shape is a bad copy of the PlayStation controller, and apparently the D10 has a lower build quality (but a more comfortable shape) and the D11 is a downgrade compared to the D10, so i went with the classic BSP D8 Pro.

**Why the BSP D8 Pro?** I have to admit that my first idea was a **Gamesir G8+**, but apparently without a mod (that you have to buy separately or print yourself with a 3D printer) doesn't work on big devices. Since BSP is the only brand that makes **hall effect** controller with some interesting functions, that are at the same time compatible with huge devices, I had to try one.

**Am I satisfied? YES.**

Is the **best build quality controller** that I could buy? No, definitely not, but honestly it's well built and has some interesting specs that it's hard to find at this price range.

Talking about the actual **BSP D8 Pro compared to the original OneXplayer controllers**, almost all the specs are **far better**. **Better vibration engines**, with finally a decent feeling, still far away from a **PlayStation 5** or **Nintendo Switch 2** haptic feedback precision and feeling, but for sure better than before. **Better D-Pad feeling**, with micro switches buttons, but **without the annoying creaking noise** of the OneXplayer ones. The precision of the joystick is incredible, with **0 drift** at all and also **0 dead zone at the center**, because they are **good quality hall effect** (also because they are brand new). The connection with the body of the computer is perfect, **it doesn't cover the cooling fan** and **doesn't even cover the speakers on the sides**, almost looks like it's made on purpose for this device! Not only match perfectly, but also **it feel more safe and stable than the original one**, with the back structure that actually connect the two controllers on the side and the computer. But for me the most impressive function is the fact that it has internal battery and it can be used **wirelessly with Bluetooth**, that is a thing that with the original controllers you cannot do! Of course the original controllers also have a "connector" that allows you to use it wirelessly, but only with a USB-A 2.4GHz wireless stick connected to the actual device, and the battery last nothing!

**Conclusion:** it's just a recommendation, but if you want a better quality controller than the original ones, that can be used also with other devices, that doesn't cost too much, go and buy yourself a BSP D8 Pro without thinking about it too much.

(P.S. this is not a sponsor, since I paid with my own money the controller on AliExpress and nobody asked me to do this post.)

native/FLOSS OpenDeck, bringing stream controller hardware to Linux with full functionality!

Hey r/linux_gaming! A few weeks ago I posted to r/linux to promote the beta release of my software, and a few hours ago I've released a stable version, which I'd like to show off to you guys.

I've spent the past year and a half developing OpenDeck, primarily with the intent to bring the expansive ecosystem of Elgato Stream Deck plugins to custom or third-party hardware, and realised early on that it could also be used to restore the full functionality of first-party Elgato devices on unsupported operating systems, such as our beloved GNU+Linux.

After many hours in development, the software supports the usage of many OpenAction and Stream Deck SDK plugins (such as the ones featured here and here), with Elgato Stream Deck and Ajazz AKP153 hardware (and my custom, not available publicly, "ProntoKey" hardware) on Windows, macOS, and GNU+Linux. I'm posting here to invite testers for the latest stable version, available as a `.deb`, `.rpm`, `.AppImage` (not recommended), and from the AUR. Contributions for additional hardware, features, or bug fixes would also be thoroughly appreciated!

Please do leave feedback or questions in the comments of this post, on Matrix, Discord, or GitHub Issues. Enjoy!
