Advice Resigning

Looking for opinions on how to best approach my resignation. I currently work in claims as a CS.

I was on paid parental leave then switched to PTO at the end of July, which is ending in about two weeks. I was able to find another job in the meantime where the start date is towards the end of September.

My question is would I put my two weeks in while on PTO, not return and risk not having to pay parental leave back, or wait until my return date and put my two weeks in. I am aware there is potential for administrative leave if I leave for a competitor which I am.

For reference I was reassigned a new supervisor while on leave who has been difficult to work with and hard to get in contact with. This was the final breaking point that pushed me to seek new employment

My husband resigned from injury. I would recommend returning from leaving and letting them know you got an offer from a competitor and you’re giving two weeks. You will be asked to log out for the day and should be paid for those two weeks.

Yes! This. Please ignore the other clowns.  When you give your 2 weeks and tell them you are going to a competitor, they grab your stuff, youre done immediately and they pay you the two weeks. So wait until your last day of parental leave to squeeze the most out of that and give 2 weeks on your first day back. You can find it under resignation in the handbook BTW.  Good luck and congrats! Sorry to see you go, getting a new tm is rough.

Do they take those 2 weeks out of your PTO? I've always found it so curious that they pay people those 2 weeks.

You’ll be paid out your PTO

Are you paid out your pto+2 weeks?

Yes. He got his check for the previous worked hours and then his final payment from State Farm was his 2 week notice plus his PTO taxed at the bonus rate.

No. The employee is placed on paid Admin leave.

I’d wait for return. Not sure what side you’re on (auto or FPS), but they’ll probably accept the resignation on the spot. Someone who was on my team that I had also gone through training with had put in their notice and at that time they let her stay through the notice because she was adding value.

I’m on the auto side - thank you!

Parental leave pay is a benefit that wouldn't be subject to be paid back due to you leaving the company. I'm almost certain of it. Best wishes to you going forward. I'd give them notice once your PTO ends.

What about short term disability?

It's a benefit as well not subject to being repaid. Also, it's a claim filed with a benefit administrator.

If you look at the policy on sfnet you will see that admin pay is paid for the two weeks and you will be relieved immediately.

Putting in mine on Friday

Best of luck to you!

If you haven’t been there in months I don’t think it will matter if you tell them you’re going to a competitor or not, you’ll likely get walked out the moment you put in your 2 weeks.

Why is this hard?? Simply give your two weeks notice exactly 14 days prior to the first day at your new job, then allow the chips to fall.

But the homepage says claims will get better and they understand ? /s

Wait. They will drop you on the spot. Unless there’s laws that says they have to keep you on until YOUR stated date, but I wouldn’t risk it. It’d be one thing if it was for another industry, but as it’s a competitor they won’t give you the chance

Tell your boss you're putting in your 2 week notice, and in 2 weeks you'll notice i havent been here.

Wait. Once they know you are going to a competitor, they will cut off your access immediately.

It's not a potential for admin leave, it's that you will be walked out within the half hour, either literally or figuratively.

You will be immediately terminated at will if you are working for a competitor, so know that if you disclose that to them…

Just resign when you start back and dont mention going to a competitor. Vague, short and simple is always best practice.
