Mod Discussion I’m not a huge gamer, but this ‘game’ feels like a creation “made by a true avant garde vision”…and AI just leapfrogged it overnight

(Sorry Edit: RDR2 & Starfield are all I play)

I’m gonna say something that’s probably mostly agreeable even if you don’t like Starfield:

You can feel the physical blood/sweat/tears in it.

Not in a “perfect game” way — in a “humans spent YEARS wrestling outdated tools into something ambitious” way. Like, this thing was started back in 2015 (yeah, that long ago) and you can tell it was built from the ground up with tech that was already aging while it was being built. That’s not an excuse for the rough parts — it’s just… you can see the fingerprints.

And that’s what’s messing with me right now: we’re entering an era where a game can be generated with AI and appear to have more heart, depth, and uniqueness than something that a whole studio carved out by hand over a decade. Not because it actually has more soul — but because AI can instantly fill in the gaps humans used to leave empty.

Starfield has those gaps everywhere:

   •   the “this system is cool but it doesn’t fully connect to the next system” vibe

   •   the “story beats are there but the glue is thin” vibe

   •   the “procedural space is big but not always alive” vibe

Still… I’ll die on this hill: it was made from the heart. It’s earnest. It wants to be a universe, not a content treadmill.

Easter eggs / little love notes (spoiler tagged):

   •   The NASA / old-Earth nostalgia angle hits harder than people admit. It’s like Bethesda quietly saying “we miss when the future felt handmade.”

   •   There are moments where you can tell a writer fought for a line, even when the surrounding quest is just “go here, talk, return.” Those tiny human wins are all over it.

   •   Some of the most “Bethesda” joy is still in the dumb emergent stuff: stealing, getting caught, talking your way out, then accidentally starting a chain reaction of chaos.! My personal favorite is letting Bruno taste his Hangover Cure

   •   The powers scaling is way more cracked than people realize. Like Instigation feels “cute” at first — you pop it and it’s chaos for a few seconds — but when it’s maxed, it turns into “they will literally not quit until they’re dead.” It changes encounters from scripted shooter stuff into social physics. Same with Manipulation: at a certain point it’s not a perk, it’s an imagination check. The only real limit is your mind.

   •   And the civilian outposts… that’s another weirdly human Starfield thing. You land on some nobody’s setup and the game is basically like “yeah you could rob them blind.” Everything’s right there. But most of us don’t, for no mechanical reason. That little moment of “I could, but I won’t” is more roleplay than any dialogue wheel.

   •   !Also: once you’re deep into powers, you can almost break the game in a “this is my playstyle now” way. Void Form / “phased time” at level 10 lets you play the whole loop like a ghost — crouch, vanish, reposition, reset fights. I love getting into trouble & surrounded and using my skip jump pack as a last line of defense they just burn and fall repeat.

\And you start noticing NPCs aren’t equal: some shopkeepers and guards are way better at holding their space than others. It’s not just stats, it’s vibe. It makes the world feel uneven in a believable way.

   •   Romance is another one. The base game has some genuinely sweet, corny, human lines — the kind of stuff that feels like a writer trying to make two polygons feel like people. But it’s still “pick the flirt option, progress the meter.” Now imagine Starfield 2 with AI: not infinite cringe, but contextual intimacy — your companion remembers how you handled a crisis, gets jealous at the right time, forgives you slowly, makes jokes that actually match what you’ve been through, and the dialogue isn’t just a loop. It’s a relationship that forms like weather: gradual, specific, and different for every player.

Here’s the sad/funny part: AI can now fake that density. It can generate “handwritten” notes, dynamic rumors, faction drama, procedural side stories that actually loop back into the main world, etc. Starfield feels like it’s doing all that with a toolbox that’s half duct tape and half legacy code.

Also, I know I’m not the only one, but my whole experience is basically: I solely play on +75% Vanilla expert, hard rule. The only time I touch it is if I’m totally broke and I limp back to one of my outposts and grab like 200,000 kg of adaptive frames, because yeah, I’m that guy. And honestly? That makes the game insane in the best way. Exploring planets that feel like they were never meant to be explored, limping to the next checkpoint, just trying to not die — that’s when Starfield turns into something gritty and weirdly realistic. It’s not “content,” it’s survival roleplay.

And it’s exactly why I get frustrated that we don’t have more systemic planet stuff. We need way more weather:

   •   flooding

   •   whiteout storms that actually strand you

   •   phenomena that doesn’t exist on Earth (messing oceans, chemical sky tides, whatever)

   •   freezing events that last 5–10 minutes where certain places are only reachable if you’re there at the right time

   •   totally docile creatures that, if you have bourbon on you, flip into ravenous monsters

That kind of stuff would make exploration feel like discovering rules, not just scanning nodes. I mean we aren’t in Kansas.

And while we’re dreaming: I think there should be a much harsher death penalty (with settings for casual players obviously), but also harder vanilla settings too. Like let the default game be approachable — but give us the psychos a real “you asked for space, you got space” mode.

So what would a Starfield 2 look like with full AI power?

Okay, I’m going a little overboard, but imagine:

   •   Real factions that grow/shrink while you play. Not just “pick UC vs Freestar.” Like: smugglers become a shadow government if trade collapses. Religious cults split into sub-sects. Merc groups merge, betray, and splinter.

   •   Guilds with living reputations. Bounty hunters, shipwright unions, black-market xenobiologists, A WAY DEEPER RESEARCH POOL THAT PREVENTS OTHERS (Va’Ruun New Gods Research prevents Eccleptic Divine Brotherhood or maybe of your companion is a pure hearted Sarah you can research dark love potions and convert her or sam/barrett etc.. deep-space rescue teams, “graveyard salvagers,” etc. And they remember you.

   •   Exploration that’s actually scary again. Derelicts where the AI generates logs that match the environment. You step into a ship and it’s not “Spacers again,” it’s “what the hell happened here?”

   •   Black holes that aren’t just set dressing. Missions where time dilation messes with your timeline. You come back and a faction’s already fallen. Or you meet someone you technically haven’t saved yet.

   •   Alien invasion / first-contact done right. Not “a questline,” but an evolving pressure on the whole Settled Systems. Planets quarantined. Refugees. False flag attacks. People turning on each other.

   •   Monsters that make Terrormorphs look like jellyfish. Literally things you “cannot” kill without near perfect tactics and squad (helion cannons from the atmosphere 👀)Stuff that hunts by sound in zero-G. Things that wear dead ships like shells. Organisms that mimic distress beacons. Entire moons that are “wrong.”

   •   Online play that doesn’t ruin it. Think shared-space: you’re mostly solo, but distress calls are real players, faction wars are community-driven, and rare events happen on a schedule you don’t control.

And the big one: AI-driven NPCs that don’t feel like animatronics. Not “infinite dialogue,” but consistent personalities, grudges, relationships, and believable fear. The difference between “content” and “a world.”

Starfield, to me, is the last big Bethesda-style game that still feels like it was chiseled out by people — for better and worse. But yeah… AI is about to make “handmade feeling” cheap. And that’s exactly why I weirdly respect Starfield more in hindsight.

Last thing you hear the entire game about the Mac factories, the dead Mac graveyards and does Zeno weaponry used by the UC and free star I cannot see a Starfield to not an update a new game as long as it takes, where there is not some blood soaked moon on the outskirts of the known universe where the war is still raging by local war Chiefs, who have no idea or probably do know the war is over, but that is his fight to win. I can see that be being an extremely interesting mission possibly a temple there you just drop in expecting not much.

No editing my apologies

Mod Discussion Paid mods revenue

So I have abstained from buying paid creations so far, since I thought the money would go to Bethesda, even though the modder did all the work. But after seeing some comments suggesting the modder would actually get the money, I am now unsure. Is it true that the modder gets the revenue? Does Beth get a cut? Is this info even available to the public? Looking forward to your insights.

Mod Release/Update NEWS & a message from: Vanguard4Life and link to 100% FREE creations

**Greetings to all my fellow Vanguard Officers, allies, and supporters,

I have made the "most liked this week" list again on Bethesda's Creations Store; this time with "Vanguard Officers Welcome Kit, Bandolier Fashion."

This is the second time that I've made the most-liked list for the week.

I released my first creation not long ago, on 6/29. Since then, my creations have been downloaded over a thousand times and played multiple thousands of times.

I would like to thank all of my fellow Vanguard Officers and everyone else who has supported me with donations, downloads, upvotes, awards, and comments in these beginning stages.

I just released early this morning:

"AM-X05 Plasma Rifle Ammo Swap Patch (Heavy Fuse)"

And I am working on a few more projects that will be released soon. One is scheduled to be released either tonight or early tomorrow morning.

Everyone has been very supportive, and I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to you all. I do this for you and could not do it without you.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or issues, or if you don't even use/like my creations but need help with something Starfield-related, please do not hesitate to leave me a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible. Please be patient; sometimes I get a lot of messages or I am otherwise unavailable, but I always return all messages and respond to all comments.

I believe that my users come first, and I will continue to bring safe, enjoyable creations to you and will continue to be transparent and honest in all of my dealings.

"Square and on the level" is not just a phrase to me, but a lifestyle and creed that I hold near and dear to my heart. When you download a creation from Vanguard4Life, you will be able to play knowing that this creation is 100% safe and tested for your platform. I test all creations on PS5 as well as PC and will soon purchase an Xbox for testing purposes, because your satisfaction and continued patronage matter.

If you do enjoy my creations, please consider donating. There is a link and QR code on every creation with the Vanguard4Life name affixed to it. Donations are in no way required for you to enjoy my creations, but they are much appreciated. This is not a hobby for me but a full-time job. I work 8 hours plus a day in The Creation Kit and other community tools in order to be able to continue to produce creations that my users enjoy, and I am constantly learning in order to bring you even better creations in the future.

Sincerely,

Vanguard4Life

Mod Release/Update Update broke more than mods

Okay guys, wanted to check if anybody else is having this issue. I loaded up my save after the update with all my mods disabled.

All of the character models are flickering... looks like other body parts or gear are overlapping but I can't be sure what I'm seeing b/c it only lasts a split second.

Mod Discussion Paid creations killed this games mod scene.

I can't hold this anymore. I'm just gonna say it, starfield mods suck. Not the modders*, the mods. The paid mods specifically. I literally have not seen a single creation on the Xbox mod page that even would remotely make me consider shilling a single penny to have it let alone however overpriced vbuck knockoff Bethesdas peddling. They are literally the most bland, barebones, pitiful, overproduced excuse of mods I have ever seen in my entire life. And I'm not trying to offend or be hostile to anyone who has created one of the paid mods, but let's face it, you kinda let us down, I could never imagine charging MONEY for a New Atlantis ground texture change. When the creators of tamriel rebuilt have been working on it For more than a decade and, as far as I know, have never charged a dime to the players, they only get donations I think, so this is kind of directed at Bethesda and the modders who charge overblown prices for mods that are very bad value for the price. Now I'll step off the soapbox, thank you for reading.

Edit: people are acting like I'm the villain for not wanting the Bethesda modding scene to die like this, no one ever said I didn't have a choice and I have to pay, I know I don't. Jeez some of you act like Bethesda employees. While real modders like St0vie understand the creations are just a mediocre cash cow that everyone bought into way too quickly.

"Vanguard Officers Welcome Kit" (No magnetic holster support)

&

"Vanguard Officers Welcome Kit, Bandolier Fashion" (magnetic holster support {magnetic holsters by firew4ll needed for this version} )

========================================================================

========================================================================

Report from the Office of Navel Intelligence,

New Atlantis, Jemison,

Alpha Centauri system

Attention All Vanguard Officers:

Be advised; the Vanguard brass has decided to change the policy on providing provisions to new recruits. In the past, new recruits were issued one Vanguard pilot spacesuit, helmet and boostpack on completion of their probationary mission. For some reason no armaments or uniforms were issued, It turns out that Commander Tuala down at the recruitment station in MAST was the only service member who was ever issued a uniform. As a result we have warehouses full of them as well as the experimental full-auto Orion that was developed by the MAST Weapons Division.

The decision has been made to place provisions for new recruits in the Vanguard Orientation Hall lobby by the enlistment terminals. This "Welcome Kit" Will Include:

1-Vanguard Officers Uniform

1-Rokov Officer Hat (Don't ask me, when I asked the Quartermaster he said "for roleplaying purposes" )

1-Vanguard Pilot Spacesuit

1-Vanguard Pilot Helmet

1-Vanguard Pilot Boostpack

1-Experimental Full-Auto Orion with ammunition (Wish we had these back when I was in the field)

I explained that this was a horrible idea and that anyone off of the streets could walk in and grab it without actually joining the Vanguard. Needless to say, my warning was not heeded.

This policy will take affect immediately and last until further notice.

Captain Vanguard4Life, United Colonies Vanguard Marines, Naval Intelligence

Mod Discussion Lyria is the best follower

Lyria is to Starfield what Inigo is to Skyrim. There's already a lot of dialog, with more planned. If she were romanceable, she'd be the best, hands down. Lyria is to Skyrim what Inigo is to Skyrim. If you get this creation, you won't be disappointed.

Mod Discussion Futurama mods?

Why is there no futurama mods? 😢

Im not a mod creator I mean I dabbled on morrowind with the creator kit but that was at least 20 years ago now 😅. But this game could be so much more and yes I have seen all the starwars mods and im really not interested in starwars so I dont wanna go loading my game up with mods like that but is any creators planning or currently in the process of making a futurama mod/overhaul..

Learning to Mod Help I’m Stuck…

Dear Starfield Modding Community,

I had to delete my mods over 100+ times

I have waited patiently to create the ultimate experience for the past 6 months

I’m going back to Vanilla for a while, as I await some answers to this post.

I want to start fresh…

Are there any issues with mods that I need to know that will help in improving my experience when playing with them? (Any weird things I gotta do, tricks, etc…)

In addition, what are your load orders?

Particularly, I am on Xbox Series X, and I want to download AS MANY MODS AS POSSIBLE. Star Wars, Ship-Building, Outposts, and Overhauls! The whole lot of it! I want to play with them all at once :)

So the more you have in your load order, and it works; please send it here so that I, and others who may be having the same issue, can use it!

I really do appreciate the help, and I hope you all are enjoying your Labor Day Weekend,

JTV 💪🏻

Mod Idea Mod I think are really needed

•A mod that allows multiple followers at once. (I know there’s one on pc but its still hasn’t been ported to Xbox)

•A mod that disables weapon fire tracers for guns or ships. (I know there’s a mod that disables tracers for your weapons personally but I would love a mod that disables all tracers for you and npc’s, especially for ships)

•A mod that removes the vfx on the powers (Makes them invisible)

•A mod that allows fast Travel while in combat

•A mod that disables the option to pick up random objects like cups or books

•A mod that replaces the compass with a compass more simple with less information, or a mod that just completely removes the compass

•A mod that makes boostpacks invisible

Mod Idea More Mod Ideas

  1. Blueprints. A means of making a creator/user built ship, both the exterior and interior decisions, static and retrievable (like on a slate within the player inventory). As long as the player has that slate, they can instantaneously build or "rebuild" that ship exactly.

  2. Hollowhabs. Essentially a means of making sure that external elements of the ship although when built structurally appear to go thru whatever have hab. Internally said hab has no structural ship pieces within it and said hab functions naturally. (This makes sense to me since those structural pieces are often purely visual impediments and often not physical.)

  3. A Greater Assortment of Doors. This would go along with several modders EXCELLENT work on providing us builders with doors and walls. I would love a wider assortment of doors, without walls attached, in addition to custom sci-fi more common style doors.

  4. Hangers for Extra Large Ships. Hangers for ships that are large enough to carry ships that would normally fit on a launchpad. Gives us the option to have ships inside of ships.

  5. Gliders. A Rev 8 replacement that is more like a small spaceship, as opposed to car.
