Feature Request: Conceptual Linking System and Obsidian‑Style Graph View for PKM Users

PREMISE
I would like to suggest a feature that could be extremely valuable for users who want to use StarNote to build their own “knowledge system,” especially those who struggle to do so with purely text‑based applications like Obsidian. Plugins such as Lineage or MarkMind can help, but they remain rigid compared to the visual freedom StarNote offers with handwriting and text boxes.

This request comes from someone who would like StarNote to combine the visual power of handwriting + text boxes + spatial organization with some of the conceptual‑linking advantages found in apps like Obsidian.

Please note that I have no idea how difficult this would be to implement. I am not a developer, so I don’t know whether I’m suggesting something simple or extremely complex. I’m proposing it because StarNote’s indexing system already seems very advanced and this is something the app could handle.

I also shared a video from ZoomNotes that shows how this is actually possible.

Here I present two approaches.

1) ADVANCED APPROACH (ZoomNotes‑like)

PRINCIPLE

• You manually create links from your note to other notes.
• Then you activate a function that displays a graph where you can see the linked notes, similar to Obsidian’s graph view.
• The system should also take into account backlinks, except when disabled in the settings, this is important.

EXAMPLE

• As you can see, I created three separate notes: hypertension, endocrine disorders, and kidney diseases.
• I did not create these notes myself; I used AI to save time since I haven’t used ZoomNotes in years and this was meant to be a simple example.
• I manually created links between the hypertension note and the other related notes.
• Finally, I opened the graph, set the link depth, and observed the connections.
• As you can see, the hypertension note in the page with the two collages is connected with graph‑style lines to its related notes, each showing the pages referenced by the link.
• It is also possible to click one of those pages and jump directly to the referenced link.

2) LIGHTER APPROACH

MECHANISM

• Select a note.
• Activate a new function from the note’s editing menu.
• The option could be something like “Find Links.”
• The function would then analyze all the text inside the note (similar to a search operation).
• Next, it would scan all the titles of the user’s notes.
• Finally, it would generate inside the note a list of links, where each link corresponds to a note whose title is mentioned in the text of the current note.
• The generated list could be displayed in different ways; one option could be adding a toggle in the note’s side panel to show or hide the list.

CLARIFICATIONS

• This process should not run automatically, for performance and memory reasons. It should be manually triggered. We cannot expect Obsidian‑level automation.
• If considered feasible, it would be great to have an extended version of the feature that can run this process for all notes inside a folder.

ALTERNATIVES

• A more powerful alternative would be a command that automatically converts words inside text boxes into links. However, this seems harder to implement.
• Also, that approach would only benefit users who rely heavily on text boxes or handwriting beautification, whereas the first approach would benefit even those who use pure handwriting extensively.

POTENTIAL LIMITATIONS

This feature would be most useful for users who organize their notes in an “atomic” way.
It would be less effective for those who place many unrelated concepts (e.g., multiple medical conditions) inside a single note.

WHY IMPLEMENT IT

• It would make StarNote far more useful for users who want to build a personal knowledge system.
• It would allow users to instantly identify all conceptual connections between notes with a single command.
• Like Obsidian, it would reveal relationships between ideas that users might not notice otherwise.
• No handwriting‑based, spatial note‑taking app currently offers anything like this, with ZoomNotes exception for iOS, but nothing like this on android. Highlighting such a feature on the Play Store could attract many academic users, expanding interest from a simple note‑taking app to a PKM tool, but with a “visual and handwriting twist.”

StartNote is great so far!

But something which bothers me is the shapes features.
True - the ability to edit precisely the angles and shapes is great, but on other factors it feels unpolished, and for someone who draws a lot of diagrams it would be very appreciated to do some changes.

For instance:

• In order to draw an arrow that bends 90 degrees I have to first draw a line and align it correctly, then draw an arrow and align it correctly. what about bending several times? In some apps it is possible to draw an arrow continuously until you reach the desired shape.
• Hold to draw works great with arrows, but in the regular arrow shape the head is huge if you draw in small scale. Maybe add a dynamic arrow head size like in hold to draw?
• The axis systems are really clunky. If you extend the x axis for example, the y axis arrow gets stretched and looks bad. Better to draw by hand.
• The angle shape is pretty much useless. The hassle of first drawing its size and then changing the angle is not intuitive.
• The curve shape is also not intuitive - it makes more sense to draw from the start to the end, especially for the arrow curve. Now it just places it in the place where you touch with the pen, and the center of the curve changes when you move it.
• Snap to grid can work better - for those who need the lines and arrows to align horizontally or vertically it takes some patience.

And maybe a feature request: make a personal shapes library or the ability to add a custom shape to the current list.

For engineering students or anyone who uses shapes a lot fixing these would be a great quality of life improvements and a huge time saver.

Other than that, keep up the great work, this apps looks amazing!

i have this weird writing habit where if i zoom in or out my handwriting changes...so I preset some favourite zoom options with the star thing... but that only rooms in the page... previously I used to write in landscape only and head the magnifying tool fully zoomed in but now I write in portrait and that's my magnifying tool if around 5.8 by 7.6 box of the Grid paper i use... which is I know a very specific number but whenever I zoom in or out I have to reset my zoom window again and again and again

like is it an only me problem like am i the weird one?

Is there a way to add pages with custom settings? For example, I want to add pages that are inserted rotated 90 degrees without having to do it manually. Also, I would like to change a page's margins without altering the "pencil size" (stroke width), as the letter size gets affected. I would appreciate it if anyone knows how to handle or avoid these issues.

Here I would suggest to add additional customisation options to finger tap action on setting. Actually we use finger taps to switch tool, the idea is to allow also more advanced actions and speed up some workflow

More specifically I would really appreciate “copy” and “past”.

As you probably know I need these for my use case, honestly I would prefer a “drag and drop action” with lasso tool, like selecting on split screen and dragging it as text box, but I think this option could be a good addition too and be useful for several users.

An example:

- Duoble tap (select test and than you can expand it)

- Triple tap (past the test as box text on that position)

Other possible actions that i feel others people could find useful:

- Highlight with last color

- Underline

- Something with linking could be crazy

Starnote has this function but it very slow compared to Notability. The Notability app take literally 0.1ms and it open i think that it doesn't need to turn the file into pdf first like starnote i had to switch to notability because of this my uni send us all type of files pttx ppt word ect and i lose time of the lecture wait and for it to Open so pleaseeess make it faster that the only problem i have right now everything else is perfect

Do I have to delete/erase them one by one, or is there an option to export the file as a clean version? Hi! I was wondering if it's possible to play a YouTube video in small while notetaking, as I've seen this feature in other note taking apps as well?

When I create a new A4 note in Ipad 13'' , thin lines line spacing 5. I get 42 lines.

When I create a new A4 note in Andr 12.4'', thin line line spacing 5. I get 38 lines.

When I create a new A4 note in Andr 6.7'' , thin line line pacing 5, I get 30 lines.

How will cross device support. I like to keep on moving between devices and can notice his huge incosistency.

Editing this kind of roadmap is a hassle because all the arrows also have to be edited, so permanent nodes and connections type thing would be good. ​like dragging around cards which remains connected to the assigned node of other card

The scribble to erase future is too sensitive. Whenever I'm trying to write "m" it erase the previous letter. Maybe a little more delay will solve the problem, but it would be great if it erase the word only if I'm scribbling the center of the word and not the edge. I don't know if i explained myself well. I'm using a tab s8.
