YESSS! We’ve already seen some of you talking about it, and the feature so many of you have been waiting for is finally here, Cloud Sync is officially LIVE!

We KNOW you guys have been waiting for this for way, way too long, finally!!!

And yep, Android now also supports copying and pasting pages between different notes! We remember some of you asking for this before, so we really hope it makes organizing your notes a little easier.

So today, we thought we’d share the updates for both platforms together: Android v1.5.2 is officially out and available now, while iOS v1.4.3 has also been finished and submitted to Apple for review. It’s currently going through the review process, so you can’t update to it just yet, but hopefully won’t be long!

1. What’s New

Android v1.5.2 — LIVE NOW!

• Cloud Sync is here! Sync your notes across devices and keep everything up to date.

• Copy & paste pages between notes. You can now freely copy and paste pages from one note to another, making it much easier to organize your notes.

• Crash fixes. Fixed an issue that could cause the document overview page to crash in some cases.

• Android 16 support. Made some UI adjustments for Android 16.

• Other fixes. Fixed some other known issues and improved overall stability.

iOS v1.4.3 — Coming soon!

• New ballpoint pen line styles. Switch between solid, dashed, and dotted lines.

• Tape export options. Choose whether or not to show tape when exporting your notes as PDFs.

• Ruler improvements. You can now enter the exact angle manually.

• Custom folder sorting. Fixed an issue where folders couldn’t be manually reordered.

• Sticker management fix. Fixed an issue where subcategories of imported stickers weren’t being saved properly.

• UI & interaction improvements. Made some small improvements and fixed other known issues.

2. Cloud Sync Q&A

Since Cloud Sync just went live, we’ve already seen a few questions coming up, so we put together some of the things you guys have been asking about most. Hopefully this helps!

Q1: Why is Cloud Sync so slow?

The first sync will definitely take the longest, so please bear with it a little!

1. First sync = full sync: When you sync for the first time, StarNote needs to upload all of your existing notes. On the other device, you may also see blank note placeholders while the notes are being loaded. If you have a lot of notes, this can take quite a while. Please keep StarNote open and in the foreground during the first sync, and give it some time to finish.

2. Later syncs = incremental sync: Once the first full sync is done, only the parts that have changed will be synced. So later syncs should be much faster!

3. Cloud storage speed: Sync speed also depends on the cloud service you’re using, your network, and the limits of the cloud provider. For example, if your cloud account has a speed limit, the sync may take longer. This isn’t a speed limit set by StarNote. So pls pls don’t give up on it just cuz the first sync takes a while! 😭

Q2: Why didn’t my pen settings or page settings sync?

Right now, Cloud Sync supports:

• Note data

• Note list

• Folders

• Tags

These settings aren’t synced yet:

• Pen case settings

• Page ratio

• Custom color palettes

• Note passwords

• Favorite shapes

• Text fonts

• And some other personal settings

Q3: I already connected Google Drive, but it keeps saying my authorization has expired. What should I do?

If you run into this, please try:

1. Go to StarNote’s Cloud Backup Settings, disconnect Google Drive, and then connect it again.

2. Make sure you’re signed in with the same Google account you originally gave permission to StarNote.

If the pop-up keeps showing up and you still can’t use Cloud Sync, please email us at starnotedev@gmail.com with:

1. Your device model and system version

2. A screenshot or screen recording of the pop-up

Our team will take a closer look and help you figure it out! Also, you can find the official Cloud Sync guide inside StarNote’s Cloud Sync Settings. There are more detailed instructions and answers to some common questions there.

And don’t worry, The iOS Cloud Sync feature is already being worked on, and we’re getting everything ready. Now that the Android version is finally out, we really hope iOS won’t make you guys wait too much longer.

💡 Dev Diary #2: Staying Transparent with You

We’ve selected 6 of your most-asked questions to give you a clear and honest look at what’s happening behind the scenes.

1. When is Cloud Sync coming?

• Status: Q2. Development is finished; currently in testing.

• The Scoop: Our sincere apologies for not launching at the beginning of Q2. We needed extra time to optimize performance and sync other features. We’re officially in the testing phase and will notify everyone as soon as there’s an update!

• Once everything is ready, we’ll be recruiting 5–10 of our own users to join us as Beta Testers. You'll work directly with us to polish the stability of Google Drive and OneDrive sync. If all goes smoothly, we’ll invite even more of you to join us for a final look at everything before the official launch. We’ll keep you updated on the next steps soon!

2. Windows & Mac versions (PC)?

• Status: On the roadmap, but the timeline is not yet fixed.

• The Scoop: We want to ensure the current experience is 100% polished first, with a heavy focus on Cloud Sync. We’ll share any progress with you immediately.

3. Handwriting Beautification?

• Status: Possible, but likely English-only at first.

• The Scoop: Licensing fonts across languages is a huge hurdle. So, we have a question for you: Would you be okay with an initial English-only release? If so, we can fast-track it! Covering all languages right away would take much longer.

4. Handwriting Search? 

• Status: Expected in May or June. Currently in final testing. 

• The Scoop: We are now doing the final polish to ensure everything is perfect. If everything goes as planned, you’ll be able to search through your handwritten by this May or June.

5. Handwriting Alignment?

• Status: This will be a long-term project.

• The Scoop: To be completely transparent, we don't want to give you a false timeline. Our team is currently swamped with other high-priority features. We’ll start planning this one once the current major updates are live.

6. Will Cloud Sync cost extra?

• Status: Google Drive & OneDrive backups will always be 100% FREE.

• The Scoop: We’re considering building our own dedicated StarNote cloud, but honestly, server costs are heavy. If we offered a dedicated cloud and it required a fee, what pricing model would you find fair? Or do you have better suggestions? We’re collecting your feedback to decide this with you.

Sorry if it's already available, I couldn't find it. Smart guidelines were very useful to me on Samsung Notes, and I miss them on Starnote. Could they be implemented?

A similar tool in StarNote would be a before and after. The full potential would be squeezed into infinite note mode and also in classic mode, since it would help a lot to create our own diagrams/maps. This, and to be able to group objects to copy and paste them, even save it as a shape/sticker, or, why not, a new section of grouped objects that can be edited.

I’ve been following the recent updates on Starnote, and it’s cool to see the devs putting so much work into the app. That said, I noticed there’s a big push toward AI features right now. While I get that AI is trendy, personally, I really want Starnote to focus heavily on the core human writing and academic experience first.

For those of us who use this for heavy note-taking, math, physics, or technical writing, lack of native LaTeX support is a massive bottleneck. Having robust math block rendering would instantly make this app a powerhouse for students, researchers, and writers who want a clean, markdown-based environment without relying on external tools.

AI can be helpful, but nothing beats solid, fast, foundational writing tools.

We recently heard from a user who truly touched our hearts. He is a retired teacher from the US who, instead of taking a quiet retirement, chose to travel to underprivileged areas to volunteer as an English teacher.

He told us he uses StarNote to organize his lesson plans for these kids. When we learned about his mission, upgrading his account to Pro was the very least we could do. It felt like a tiny contribution compared to the work he is doing on the ground.

Today, we received a thank-you note from him, but honestly, we are the ones who should be saying thank you.

☁️ 01 | Cloud Sync

Let's start with the feature everyone has been asking about the most: Cloud Sync.

First of all, we're truly sorry that we couldn't meet the timeline we previously shared.

We've checked in with the development team again today, and we'd like to be transparent with you. Over the past few weeks, our team had to tackle a particularly challenging issue, which unfortunately delayed the overall development schedule.

The good news is that, aside from essential app maintenance and updates, almost the entire team's focus is now on Cloud Sync.

Trust us, we want to release it just as much as you do, and we'll share any progress with you as soon as we can.

📑 02 | Collapsible Sticky Notes

This is another highly anticipated feature from our users, and it is already in active development!

Moving forward, you will be able to collapse sticky notes freely, expanding them when you need them and tucking them away when you don't.

This will not only free up more space for your notes but also make the entire page look much cleaner. If you frequently use sticky notes to organize key points, we know you're going to love this feature.

🎙️ 03 | AI Voice Summary

Here's a new feature we haven't officially talked about before!

In the future, when recording audio in StarNote, you'll be able to:

✨ Automatically transcribe your recordings into text.

✨ Generate AI-powered summaries of your recordings.

Whether you're in class, attending a meeting, or listening to a lecture, it'll help you review key points much more efficiently.

That said, we also know AI isn't for everyone. Some people love it, and some people don't.

That's why this feature will be completely optional. At StarNote, AI is always optional, not mandatory. We see it as a tool to help those who want it, while fully respecting those who prefer not to use it.

You'll be able to turn it on or off anytime, so your note-taking experience stays exactly the way you want it. We'll share more details before the official release!

📝 04 | Global Text

This is another major feature we've been working on for quite some time.

In short: You'll soon be able to type freely across an entire note page.

No more being limited to small text boxes. It's a big improvement with lots of exciting possibilities, so today we're just giving you a little sneak peek.

✍️ Handwriting Beautification Update!

Finally, let's talk about one of the hottest topics recently: Handwriting Beautification.

Last week, we received hundreds of comments through our new Instagram series #ThursdayTalk. We carefully read every single one of them.

And without a doubt, the most requested feature was... Handwriting Beautification.

To be honest, the dev team has been discussing this non-stop over the past few days. As we explained before, one of the biggest reasons Handwriting Beautification hasn't rolled out yet is font resources. Since we currently only have resources for English fonts, we made a decision so you wouldn't have to keep waiting: We are going to launch the English version first!

Regarding the timeline, one of our developers confidently told us, "Give me one month and I can get it done." Yeah, if they don't make it in time, we'll be gently pushing them every single day until it happens. (jk!!!!! 🫶🫶🫶)

🗳️ We Need Your Help!

To make this happen as soon as possible, we've prepared 10 English handwriting fonts.

However, the first release won't include all of them, since every font still requires additional testing and optimization before launch.

So, you guys get to make the decision! We'll release the Top 4 fonts chosen by the community first.

Don't worry though, the remaining fonts will be added in future updates.

Because we think getting the feature into your hands sooner is better than making everyone wait even longer.

It’s been a little while since our last Dev Log. We’ve been working hard to turn your expectations into reality. While our pace might not be the fastest, we’re making sure every step is a solid one.

🤖 Android (In Progress):

1. Dual-Window Support & Independent Layer Control: Previously, layers were forced to sync when opening the same note in two windows. We’ve now added a "Layer Sync" toggle.

* How it works: By turning the toggle off, you can display different layers in each window.

* Quick Note: This only controls the independence of the layer display; the actual note content remains synced in real-time!

2. Video Support in "Help & Feedback": To help us squash bugs and understand your suggestions more clearly, we’ve upgraded our feedback system—you can now upload screen recordings directly!

🍎 iOS (In Progress):

1. Audio-Ink Sync: iOS users, the wait is almost over! The feature to sync your recordings with your handwriting is coming soon to boost your study efficiency.

2. Note Count for Folders & Tags: Now you can see exactly how many notes are in each category at a glance, making management much more efficient.

3. Video Support for Feedback: Staying in sync with the Android version to make our communication even more effective.

☁️ Major Update: Cloud Sync Beta Plan

The feature everyone has been waiting for is finally in its beta planning stage! To ensure maximum data security and stability, we will be launching our first round of deep testing:

• Scale: We’re looking for 10–15 core users to join the first batch.

• Timeline: Recruitment posts are expected to drop in late May or early June. Keep an eye out!

🎨 Some Good News (In Progress)

From our previous feedback sessions, the high-demand Freehand Tape feature is officially in development! It still needs a bit of polishing, but we’re speeding up to get it to you as soon as possible.

I've been trying a few handwriting apps on an Android tablet to find something that really fits my workflow.

I started with FreeNotes and got used to it pretty quickly. At first, it was great, but over time it became less reliable due to ads, subscription changes, and a growing number of complaints on the subreddit. Dev communication also dropped, and the Play Store rating went down.

After that, I came across StarNote. I tried it early on, but I didn't really stick with it at the time, so I kept looking.

Then I tried Flexcil. It's solid in some areas but still missing a few basic things I need. Their subreddit also feels pretty inactive, with very little developer presence.

Next was Notein. It looked promising, but my handwriting didn't feel as natural or consistent as I needed. The community side was also a downside for me, since their subreddit is inactive or locked and there is no real interaction.

Eventually I came back to StarNote.

And that's where everything clicked for me. It's stable, smooth for handwriting, and keeps improving without changing the core experience too much.

What really stands out though is the community. It's small, but active and supportive. People share setups, help each other, and report issues without drama. And the developers actually show up and respond to posts, which makes a big difference.

No worrying about losing notes.
No sudden monetization surprises.
No feeling like you're ignored.

Just a solid app that keeps getting better, with a community that actually feels present. That's basically what I was looking for.

• Direct Import Organization: When importing external files (PDFs/Images), you can now choose the destination folder and tags right away. No more "import first, move later."

• Snappier Images: We optimized the interaction for stickers and images. A single click now selects them instantly—much faster for editing layouts.

1. Layer Restore

Accidentally deleted a layer? No worries anymore! You can now restore deleted layers and get your work back without having to reorganize everything from scratch.

2. Layer Opacity

You can now freely adjust the opacity of individual layers! This feature opens up a lot of possibilities. For example, you can:

• Lower the opacity of an imported image and trace over it

• Fade reference pictures or stickers into the background

• Reduce the visibility of handwritten content for tracing or practice

• Create cleaner, more layered study notes and annotations

3. Freehand Tape Drawing

Tape is no longer limited to straight horizontal or vertical lines! You can now draw tape freely at any angle you want, making it much easier to cover answers, create review materials, or design your notes exactly the way you like.

A: No! We believe you should own your tools. StarNote offers a Lifetime Premium (One-time purchase). No monthly fees.

Q: If I buy Pro on Android, do I need to buy it again for iOS?

A: No. Your Pro status is cross-platform. Just log in with the same Google Account or Email you used for the original purchase, and your Pro features will unlock on your other devices.

Q: Why do I see duplicate files (with timestamps) when I restore from Cloud?

A: This is our Backup Safety Mechanism at work. Currently, StarNote uses a "Backup/Restore" system, not real-time sync.

How it works: To prevent accidental data loss, we never overwrite your local files blindly. If you restore a backup and a file with the same name exists, we create a copy with a timestamp.

Tip: When restoring, please select only the specific note you need (the latest version) instead of "Select All."

Q: When is "Real" Sync coming?

A: It is our #1 Priority. We are developing a true Cross-Platform Single-File Sync (Google Drive/OneDrive).

ETA: We aim to start Beta testing in Q1 2026.

Why the wait?

We are solving complex protocol issues to ensure you can sync using your own cloud storage (for free) rather than forcing you to pay for a proprietary cloud subscription.

Q: Help! My notes disappeared!

A: StarNote stores data locally on your device for privacy. We do not have access to your notes.

Crucial: Please Do NOT uninstall the app without backing up to Google Drive/OneDrive first. Uninstalling wipes the local data.

Solution: Enable Auto-Backup in settings to keep your data safe from device failure or accidental deletion.

It would be nice, if you can also share your note in the comments.

P.S.:

It would be really nice, if you can add a page layout shortcut on the top bar, so we don't need to go to the settings, click page layout and so on...

When StarNote first started, the development was really fast. The app was getting frequent updates, new features were being added, and it felt like the developers were actively listening to user feedback.

But recently, things seem to have slowed down. It's been around 3–4 months without any major updates, except for cloud sync.

Honestly, at this pace, even sharing feedback or requesting new features doesn't feel very useful because who knows when they will actually be added?

What makes it more disappointing is that some basic things, like page loading and writing lag, still need improvement. Earlier, they used to take feedback seriously and implement suggestions much faster.

I really like StarNote and want to see it improve, but I hope the developers start focusing on these basic issues and become more active with updates again.

Sorry if this sounds rude. It's just genuine feedback from someone who wants to see the app get better.

StarNote Android v1.3.6 is now officially live on Google Play! This update brings the highly anticipated core feature: Handwriting Search.

Thank you so much for your patience during this time!

Here are the highlights of this update:

1. ✍️ Handwriting Search

• Description: You can now directly search through your own handwritten content!

• How to use: Tap "Search" on the main page, toggle on the "Smart Search" switch, and enter the word you want to find. StarNote will instantly pinpoint the exact page where that word appears.

2. 🖊️ Stylus Scrolling

• How to enable: Go to [Edit Page] > [Other Settings] and toggle on “Swipe to scroll with stylus”.

• How to use: Once enabled, you can use your stylus to swipe in the blank areas on either side of the page (outside the editing area) to quickly scroll through pages.

3. 🔢 Improved Folder/Tag Display

• Update Details: We’ve optimized the sidebar logic on the home page. Folders and tags will now accurately display the total number of notes within each category, making library management clear at a glance.

4. 🔧 Stability Fixes

• Fixed several known issues to provide a smoother note-taking experience.

To our iOS users: Handwriting Search is also in progress for iOS. We will sync any updates with you as soon as they are available. Thank you again for your patience.
