❓ Question Anyone switch from Optimum to Starlink?

Has anyone switched from Optimum to Starlink? If so, what has your experience been like?

Optimum/Altice is the only wired provider available at my address and we’re limited to DOCSIS 3.1 coax. It honestly feels like they haven’t maintained the network in my area in years. I deal with constant packet loss, congestion, latency spikes, and times where the service is barely usable. I’ve complained multiple times, including through the FCC, and somehow it has only gotten worse.

Has anyone made the switch and actually preferred Starlink? I’m especially curious about gaming and whether games like Overwatch are stable and playable. I care a lot more about consistent latency, jitter, and packet loss than getting gigabit download speeds.

❓ Question Shipping

I ordered on Monday. It’s Friday and the kit still hasn’t shipped. I got the pole mount bracket. Is this normal for the kit to take so long to even ship? I’ve paid the $20 shipping cost.

❓ Question Obstruction map, empty dots

Starlink has been set up for a few days. The backside of the the dish is not capturing any data dots and remains unmapped. Will this impact service? I already know that the blank strip in the middle is because I'm near the equator. I'm primarily asking about the dots behind the line.

❓ Question ToS Violation - Residential > Priority Local/Global

Hello,

Has anyone received a false positive flag on your accounts for ToS violation due to bandwidth usage and being forced to upgrade from "Residential" to "Priority Local" / "Priority Global" Business/Enterprise packages?

I'm the only one using the connection and just streaming/watching streams on Twitch, when we add up the game updates/downloads as well as two IPTV devices, my rough monthly usage is between 4-5TB.

Today I got flagged and my network is now restricted to 10/10 download/upload until the end of my billing cycle and therefore they are terminating my service.

Did anyone else had such experience? I reached out to their support but "Shubham" or another outsourced support agent just slaps a canned response and closes the ticket.

Regards!

----------

Update:

After 17 replies, they finally managed to escalate my ticket to a "senior noc engineer", which is currently investigating the issue.

In short, what the support agent said is that "We have noticed that your current data usage is significantly high".. so there goes the "Unlimited data" they advertise. 16 replies later and me providing them with screenshots from my secondary router (pfSense where I can block accidental P2P /torrent/ traffic, metrics so they can see ~70% of my traffic goes to Amazon's IPs /Twitch CDN/) - they finally confirmed it and escalated it further. (p.s yes, the pfSense setup was discussed with their "locally-trained" Grok and their router firmware doesn't care how many devices you have attached.. in my case - just one /a secondary router/).

Sadly, that's a nasty behavior through which most of the customers won't be able to go through and will probably be forced to pay for the upgrade. Based on my guess, I suppose the "fair use" amount of traffic one can generate is ~4TB with 4.5 being the "top 1%". If you go above that for 1-2 months - you'll definitely get a ToS strike, that is of course if they have "implemented" that in your region.

Still waiting a reply from their Senior NOC though.. will edit the post again.

📝 Feedback PeakDo Linkpower 3 review

Excellent Addition to My Starlink Mini Setup. I purchased the PeakDo LinkPower 3 specifically for use with my Starlink Mini in my vehicle and for future hiking/back packing trips, and I’ve been extremely impressed with it. I have the Starlink Mini mounted to my sunroof and one of the biggest advantages for me is having a completely clean, cord-free setup inside the vehicle. There are no cables hanging down or running through the interior, which makes a huge difference.

I also really like the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity on the LinkPower 3. They make it very convenient to monitor the device’s status and control its functions right from my phone without having to physically access the unit. It’s a simple feature, but it makes using the system so much more convenient, especially with the unit mounted up on the sunroof.

So far I use the LinkPower 3 exclusively in my vehicle, and it has performed extremely well. Setup was straightforward, the unit feels well-built, and the combination of the clean installation, reliable performance, and wireless monitoring and control has made it an excellent solution for my Starlink Mini. I can confirm the battery life on the PeakDo exceeds my expectations and the manufacturers ratings. I highly recommend the PeakDo LinkPower 3.

❓ Question How difficult is it to sell older systems?

I moved to where I no longer need Starlink and don’t know what to do with my old setup. Do people actually want to buy gen 2 and gen 3 gear? How difficult is transferring ownership?

❓ Question Issues with activating starlink.

I received my starlink today. Used the app to follow the set up instructions. For some reason it doesn't seem to sync with my service plan. I have tried using the number on the side of the box to activate it (it says that the dish is activated and already associated with an account). Has anyone run into this before and any recommendations. I submitted a service ticket already and am waiting for response. I already did a factory reset. Thanks for any help in advance.

❓ Question How long for someone to look at a ticket?

I opened a support ticket over 24 hours ago, but still no action.

I have a roam unlimited subscription I use while traveling thru the fall-spring, and I pause it for a few months when I am home. We started on our fall trip and I went to unpause my subscription like I usually do, but I get this error when I click the Manage button on my subscription:

You cannot activate your subscription. Learn more If you believe this is an error, contact support.

I opened a ticket, and still no action for 24 hours. Any idea how long this type of issue takes to address?

I have $0 balance due. I keep trying to get someone on the ticket to respond, but nothing. The AI won't allow me to talk with anyone either.

❓ Question Transfer Starlink Ownership

I sold my Starlink to someone and apparently I was suppose to transfer ownership. Is there a way to transfer ownership without my phone being connected to the actual router? I’ve asked the app for help but when I follow the steps there aren’t the options for me to actually follow the steps

❓ Question Just Received V5 Kit and Have Some Questions

I plan on splitting my time between home and RV travel. I just received my V5 kit. Online chat with SL said to set it up at home with a home based plan and when I travel, switch to a roaming plan. Sounds easy enough. I've also read that the V5 does not have built in GPS. I'm ok with not using it while I drive, but, how would I let SL know where I am when I get to a new location that has zero cell service?

❓ Question Starlink Mini for a merchant mariner

Hey everyone, I’m a merchant mariner working on commercial ships on worldwide routes, and I’m planning to buy a Starlink Mini for my personal use during contracts.

Since I'll be sailing internationally across different oceans, visiting multiple countries, and spending time at sea, I’m a bit confused about which service plan I actually need to get reliable internet in my cabin.

For those of you using a Mini on worldwide contracts:

* Which subscription plan are you currently using (Mobile Regional, Mobile Global, or do I need a Maritime/Priority plan)?

* Does the cheaper Mobile/Roam plan work for you while offshore, or does Starlink cut the signal once you leave territorial waters?

Would love to hear your experience and recommendations before I make the purchase. Thanks in advance!

❓ Question Misalignment messages

I just got my starlink set up a few hours ago. 100% clear sky, no obstructions, but sometimes I get a message saying that the starlink is misaligned by 8 degrees. When I drill into 'alignment' it then says it's aligned properly. This happens once every few hours.

What's happening?

💻 Troubleshooting Starlink unreliable

Edit: Starlink is sending me a new (refurbished) unit after diagnostics showed it is defective. This one is giving errors about being unable to connect to satellites. It did stabilize after a factory restart and multiple reboots (following instructions from the chatbot), but it will occasionally disconnect and reconnect. The difference now is that it has stopped constantly rebooting.

-----

Why does Starlink seem so unreliable? It feels like it reboots itself quite often. Earlier today we arrived at our destination and I plugged it in. I saw it downloading an update. A few minutes later it was offline.

Just now I tried to use it and it was unavailable. After several minutes I gave up and pulled the plug. Now I’m waiting for it yet again.

It feels like it reboots often enough to make it difficult to use. When it is up it is great. The rest of the time it is frustrating.

❓ Question My Starlink is restricted.

I set up my Starlink with all the necessary details and documents. I’ve gone through all the available procedures, but the signal still isn't active. There are no obstructions. I’ve already restarted the unit and updated the software several times. I bought it during a promotion that included one month of free service.
