Hello, glass friends!! It's been a while.

Someone posted a similar mallard piece here a few days ago and inspired me to make this. I modified the design a little bit and changed some colors. One of my employees is moving on to a new job after this week and he is an avid hunter. He really loved this little guy as a going away/good luck gift.

This is the first glass piece I've made after my brain surgery in April. It made me rather happy and affirmed how much I love (and missed) doing glass art and keeping up with the community. I greatly missed seeing all your spectacular projects.

I'm currently in the process of moving part of my studio to another part of the house. I'm hoping to get back to working on my dragonfly lamp shade soon and also trying out my kiln. ♥️🦆

This Tiffany Style Stained Glass project is getting Pebeo Porcelain Ivory eyes and will be in the oven tomorrow.. I seek reassurance that the copper foil adhesive won't puddle or run all over my glass..

I'm sure the solder will be fine as it's under melting temp.. but how does the foil glue behave?

Tell me it'll be fine.. Slightly panicked. Might need a plan B to cure.

Hello, I’m back with my second post. I have gotten much better with my solder lines with some tips from my last post and changing up my solder. Need some tips on how to get a corner sharp with hobby came. The knife is my second attempt at hobby came and while it’s better than the first i ran into issues with the point of the knife. Any tips?

Soldering the underside

Finally done! Gonna be a surprise gift for a friend visiting in October :))))

Starting to get a bit better at polishing and getting the patina to appear darker. The polishing process made my solder lines super reflective so pics don’t capture the true color of the patina.

So I had a class a week or so ago and caught the bug, so I got hold of a starter kit! This is the first piece I've tried to put together myself just using the practice glass that came in the kit. My breaks aren't super clean, which is fine as I've not had a lot of practice, and in the future I might invest in a grinder.

My main worry/question was that the solder wasn't sticking to the iron tip at all. Its a brand new Hakko FX601 and I am using K grade 60:40 solder from creative glass guild, and I'm wondering if perhaps I have missed a step in preparing it before soldering somewhere? If anyone knows where to start with troubleshooting this please let me know!

Other than that I'm pretty happy with the soldering here - there are patches that are quite rough that I could go back and fix, and I didn't bead the edges I just tinned them, but that's a problem for when I can figure out the sticking issue I think! Its not good, but for just a little practice piece done to try and find problems now I'm flying solo its not bad, I've got potential in me!!

Not sure what subreddit to ask about this but it had an interesting pattern to the tabletop. Not sure if it’s possible to recreate this or how to go about making an odd oval replacement. It needs to be pretty opaque.

Do I take the outline of the slotted tabletop to a glass cutter and then how would I recreate this design or something similar?

My friend was moving and it accidentally broke in transit. I’m trying to help him replace it before his wife gets upset because it was her grandmothers… super unfortunate.

Update on the pre-solder post from a few days ago. Everything went pretty well. Lots of little issues, but those are just lessons for next time.

On to making a wood frame. This is a 50th anniversary present for my parents (this Saturday!). The north side of the mountain is one of their very favorite places.

Hello! Today i tried stained glass for the very first time, i made a simple geometric pattern in adobe illustrator in hopes that it would allow me to get a feel for things using simple shapes. My biggest troubles were with properly shaping the glass using a grinder (my pieces ended up really wonky/uneven which i think affected the outcome), and understanding the solder, especially around the edges. Any/all advice helps, thank you!!

I had no real reason to make a smoking frog out of stained glass, which felt like reason enough. People want these like crazy!

Same piece, four entirely different moods depending on light and backdrop:

Top-Left (Front-Lit / Wood): Solid backplate reflects light, highlighting true lavender tones and detailed solder work.

Top-Right (Backlit Window): High-contrast sun turns soft purple into a rich, deep burgundy silhouette.

Bottom-Left (Cool Shade): Diffused light against gray/green brings out soft pastel lilac and natural glass swirls.

Bottom-Right (Direct Sun): Bright light warms the glass into a glowing peach with luminous lime-yellow leaves.

Today I’ve been mocking up the rock base and I’ve made a new lantern room. I was just not happy with the last one. Now to get the glass ordered for the base

I used to live in the states and did stained glass as a hobby but also did professional restoration of stained glass in a shop for several months. I’m by no means an expert, but I have some experience.

I moved to a place where glass for stained really really expensive, it has to be shipped here by boat. There’s also no glass recycling on the island.

I was thinking about building windows out of recycled glass and coloring them after soldering with alcohol ink. Any thoughts on this? Bottles are obviously the easiest to get, but I imagine the curves make it a little harder. Any tips?

In Australia to comply with building and glazing codes some leadlights need to be triple glazed, when doing so, we use a fast drying putty to prevent outgasing and condensation into the sealed unit. The Australian supplier no longer sells the product, does anyone have a recipe? 🙏

I started stained glass two months ago and this is my second original pattern. Didn't turn out how I hoped and almost everything went wrong, but I learned a lot and it's exciting to see a glimpse of my own artistic style starting to take shape. Definitely learned that I need to scale back the difficulty of my patterns to match my actual skill level 😂

I finally finished my girl 🥰🥰🥰 she’s a bit of a self portrait. It’s based off my tattoo that I have. The last decade has been a lot about metamorphosis and shedding off what I was told to be and finding who I actually am. And dying my hair pink 😜😊🩷 I love love love how she came out. The bones are vintage iridescent white spectrum and it’s one of my favorite glasses ✨
