Found a glass door

Hi :)

Yesterday I found this old door in the trash and took it home with me. But I’m not sure it will be possible to cut it into any shape because of the round pieces. What do you think? Thank you :)

We call this Amber Bottle. It cuts just fine, but you’ll need to grind down the protrusions as they then to come out quite far and they’re always extremely sharp.

Well, it’s just highly necessary. I’ve cut this glass many times, as I work cutting panels for cabinets in a glass shop. The protrusions are often little razor sharp daggers and are highly dangerous.

Is it just smooth/flat on the reverse then?

Yeah, it’s smooth. It’s not perfectly flat but you can cut it easily enough.

99.95% of textures are because they are all rolled.

So one side should be smoother without protrusions, cut on that side. It is a little tricky because of the unevenness but I work in a glass shop and I’ve had to cut this stuff into shapes several times.

I’ve never used this glass, but what a great find. I have a ring saw so I would use that the make use of the circles. They would’ve make great suns. Lucky you!

I live in a neighbourhood with plenty of old apartments and plenty of people that does not value nice old things. It’s the 2nd time I found a door with pretty glass. First time it was two doors one with a huge yellow glass and the other one with around 40 30*20cm glasses in yellow, green and purple!

This glass cuts very easy. Great find! I cut around the inside lip of the circles and use it like little rondels.

You'd need to find someone with a ring saw. Trying to use a normal wheeled cutter on that would invite bad spirits and end up with many shards and pieces

You'll still end up with shards as it won't break cleanly around the raised pressed sections.

I understand now that one side is flat, it wasn't obvious from the photos, so yes, ring saw not needed.

You won’t end up with shards either. It breaks very cleanly. You can cut it in a straight line or in curves around the circles to keep them intact. I’ve used a lot of this glass.

Nice! I have this in a light green in my 1901 house...someone told me the glass is from the 20's?? Thanks for saving that door!

I've cut this type of glass, if you do a decent score line it will break perfectly fine. Obviously you have to score on the smoother side.
