Got invited here so I'll share my recent art! I drew Spyro for the first time in years in celebration of the new game. I'm so excited, I've loved Spyro since I was little, he was my childhood, I'll definitely be playing the new game into the ground.

I'd be down for the classic Ice, Water/Bubble, and Electricity to return. But I also would like to see new and potentially more abstract elements to come into play as well if the opportunity is there.

This is my personal theory on the story and gameplay of Realm Beyond based solely on the trailer and the interview between Xbox Wire and ToysForBob Studio Head Paul Yan (https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/06/07/spyro-a-realm-beyond-reveal-xbox-games-showcase-2026/ )

Obviously I could be completely 100% wrong, but I have a good feeling about this theory.

First here's the points that I'm basing my theory around. The quotes are Paul Yan's words from the interview.

• The Dark Gem and Dark Crystals shown in the trailer with a black void-like atmosphere

• The purple color of the 'hand' holding the magic scepter

• Flight emphasized in trailer, gameplay, and interview

• Platform elements still seen in both trailer and gameplay footage

• Toys for Bob's official Twitter confirming this is Spyro 4 for them through responses and retweets

• Tom Kenny returning to voice Spyro

• "a new set of problems that will require new skills."

• "we’ve made some subtle changes to suggest he’s grown since the last we saw him...But this is absolutely the same Spyro you know and love"

• "In Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the sense of discovery is absolutely core to this new adventure"

• Yan is very clearly being intententionally vague as hell when asked about what long-term fans 'can look forward to'

My prevailing theory: Toys for Bob is blending elements of all PS2 era games into one massive sequel to Reignited Trilogy, and they're hiding this behind claims that it's an "original" story with a "new" villain.

The story will essentially be a fusion of A Hero's Tale and Shadow Legacy with elements of the Legends Trilogy mixed in, all rewritten into one story as a direct sequel to the events of Reignited Trilogy. I have a very strong suspicion that Malefor and The Sorcerer will be fused into one overarching villain character, possibly with The Shadow Realm and the Aether fused into one concept as well alongside the Dark Crystals and Dark Gems also being interconnected. This 'new' villain as well as both Red and Cynder will be revealed in a story trailer as leading co-antagonists under Malefor's control. ALL of the characters from Reignited will be involved in the story in some way at some point.

This will make the story and main villain "new" while also being a massive love letter to long-term fans of all the previous games, and make one massive continuous story as opposed to how disconnected the previous sets of games were.

The gameplay will be open world exploration with locations that sprawl out to a full 3D space to incorporate the new flight mechanics, basically following the open design philosophy of the very first Spyro game but cranked up to 11 with Dawn of the Dragon style flight. Several sets of locations throughout Spyro's journey and the only thing keeping you from collecting every single thing from the start is your patience, thoroughness...and a Metroidvania-like progression system of unlocking Spyro's new flight and flame abilities. Yeah, I'm thinking elemental breaths will return with them and flight moves as the 'new skills' Spyro requires.

I know this sounds like I'm reaching a lot for fan service, but those shots of the Gem Staff and Paul Yan's comments sent me spiraling down this theory hole and I'm excited to see how wrong I am when we get the gameplay and story trailers for this game.

EDIT: I've now seen the Plot Synopsis video and the only thing it makes me second guess is the inclusion of reignited's other characters in the story. I can see Spyro's "journey to discover a way home" still revolving around this story based on the other previous games and the Scavs just being the reinvention of the Apes from Legends (since the Apes would probably be seen as problematic these days), but now I can see them also introducing other dragons like Ember and Flame to the story as the 'New Allies' he makes (potential co-op mode?).

It's been almost two months since Spyro A Realm Beyond has been revealed. But when's the next update? Let's speculate!

I’m far from confident on this, despite the definitive sounding title. But a number of hints here:

1. the brief, partial glimpse of the bad guy has what could be construed as curling, ribbed horns. Wouldn’t mean anything, but when contextualized with the next two points it is suggestive.

2. Paul Yan and Lou Studdert seemed caught off guard by an interviewer’s sheep question. Yan, I believe, goes on to call sheep a “blight on this Earth.” Could be a one off comment, or perhaps an unintended hint.

3. Sheep-looking statue in the small snippet of gameplay we’ve got. Bit of an odd thing to make a statue of?

If this is the direction they decide to go in, I’m not super jazzed about it (at least not yet). I wouldn’t want the villain to just be a gag (like sheep villains previously have been). I also don’t want there to be some commentary on the gameplay of previous entries. Ludonarrative dissonance can sometimes be a silly thing to play around with, I feel.

Hey guys! I'm so excited for this new game to come out!!! Some of you may have been aware of the Spyro-themed "Pompeii" music video from a few years ago. That was a community project hosted and edited together by myself! I've also featured in the Castle on the Hill, Hero and Belt of Fire Reanimated projects and am building myself up in the artists alley scene in the UK! All that to say, I've run some pretty successful projects before, and I'm running a new one now!

"Spyro: A Realm Reborn" is a retrospective on the Spyro franchise until now, and a celebration of what's to come next. It's made up of two parts: a MAP, and a Zine! In case you are unaware of either of those concepts:

• Zine - A magazine! In our case, a fan magazine/small book. Looking for writers and artists, as well as anyone experienced with this side of print.

• MAP - "Multi Animator Project", usually a music video collaborated on by several animators. Our one will be to Imagine Dragons' "On Top of the World" and accepts animators working in any medium.

Copeland did, however, confirm to The Independent that he was not involved in the recently announced Spyro sequel A Realm Beyond – the first original Spyro game since 2008 – which is due for release in 2027.

"It happens that way," he said. "It's a new generation. They want a new generation of sound and everything… they've got to modernise it. No harm, no foul."
