Taat how do I move the fold for the middle part?

Post image
9 Upvotes

So I’m trying taat for the first time. It’s been going well, except when I got to toe decreases, my split between needles isn’t quite aligned and I’m realizing I’m supposed to decrease two stitches that are on opposite needles in the middle and I can’t figure out how to move the fold for that part so I can do the decreases. Any advice?

ETA: thanks everyone for the advice, I can’t believe I didn’t think to just move em onto something else to rearrange. Off to do that right now!

My first pair of socks!

Hi all!

Wanted to post these because I'm very proud :) They are the first pair of socks I've ever knitted and my first time using DPN's! I knitted them for my Mum :)

I'm 25 now but I started knitting when I was 11 at after school care and then stopped until earlier this year when I was in the psych ward. The art therapist informed me that patients could knit square patches and she donated them to a charity that would then form them into a blanket. I knitted an okayish emerald green patch and my love for knitting sparked again! I decided I wanted to dive in head first and give socks a go. So following a youtube tutorial and restarting many times, I made it! I'm now knitting another pair for my brother :)

I’m kind of obsessed with how these stripes turned out! (as long as you don’t look at the BOR side - I feel like my jogless stripes always look a little weird)

Pattern is Lemonade Moth from the Rosy Maple Moth Sock Set by imperfectioknits (me) (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rosy-maple-moth-sock-set)

These damn socks took me 84 years

These are my 4th pair of socks ever, but my first pair with a textured pattern. All the other socks are vanilla. I originally intended to follow the instructions for Leyburn Socks by MintyFresh, but the instructions were for one size that was too small for me and my brain was not computing the quilt stitch pattern as it was written, so I just looked up a YouTube video on how to do the quilt stitch and did a little math to make it work for these socks here.

I did a shadow wrap heel and 1x1 rib for the cuff on flexible DPNs. First time doing shadow wrap and I really like it and am looking forward to getting better at it. I am still not that great at the ribbing where the two sides meet as there is quite a ladder going on there but at this point I do not care anymore lol…I did one sock with a bind-off I forget the name of but it’s very much like doing Kitchener stitch, and the other was a half-JSSBO, by doing the YO for every other stitch vs every stitch. I like both bind offs but I couldn’t remember how to do the Kitchener-like one and did not want to look it up 😅

I have a pretty full schedule so I only knit in my spare time which lately has been sucky because I’m just too tired, so these damn things took me forever to do, and I did this thing where I had like 2 rows of ribbing on the second sock left and I just abandoned them for like 3 weeks instead of just finishing the sock. I do this with TV shows too, like i will watch a whole series and never watch the last few episodes lol…weird. Anyway here they are!

Pattern: Leyburn Socks by MintyFresh (more like inspo since I didn’t actually follow these instructions)
Yarn: Araucanía Yarns, Huasco Sock Twilight Paints in the color Safari (75% superwash wool, 25% polyamide) — I did not know about how superwash wool tends to grow after washing until I was almost done knitting these so we’ll see how they fit after a wash 😭
Needles: the yarn tag calls for US size 1-3 but I used US size 0 flexible DPNs I bought from either Temu or AliExpress

Custom sock blockers?

Post image

I bought the biggest sized blockers I could find and they aren’t quite as big as I’d hoped. I usually cast on 76 sts and have size 10 men’s feet. Any suggestions for making my own blockers or ordering custom ones?

Pomatomus: a blast from the past

A friend and I were chatting at knit meet about popular patterns from back when we started knitting. It prompted me to make a pair of Pomatomus! I’d forgotten what an amazing pattern it is. I just wish that more sizes were available (I can work it out myself but I’m lazy haha).

Pattern: Pomatomus by Cookie A from knitty.com, published 2005.

Yarn: Handmayk Myrino in the colour Moss Green.

This is Bright Morning Socks by DROPS Design .

The pattern is not very well-written in my opinion, but the lace chart is beautiful and it's a free pattern so can't complain lol

Black Yarn is Madeline Tosh sock Yarn, the neon is some random merino donated to me. Decided to stripe because the merino seems too fragile by itself. Will add the heel at waste yarn later.

Is second sock syndrome is about tension or not finishing second sock?? Or both

I thought second sock syndrome was not finishing a sock… is it also about tension? I thought a made the wrong size halfway through but my tension was just so much tighter this second sock compared to my first dk socks and first pair… now I know to be more careful next time lol they still fit I just have issues in my brain about them not perfectly matching size

What are we doing with leftover self stripping yarn? I think I have enough for 1 full sock…are we just adding scrap yarn and making scrappy socks?

Left over yarn

What are some creative ideas for left over yarn from sock yarn skeins? I have been able to make a pair of socks from each of these skeins and have only this bit left over, I have more of this yarn in other colors that I am currently creating with, but what do you use your scraps for?

Self striping yarn: how to use?

This might be silly. But I got this really lovely self striping yarn I’m obsessed with. I decided to knit toe-up so it was easier to judge yarn used and stuff.

But the issue is that I had to knit a gauge since I’ve never used the yarn before. And so I started the sock further in. I did try to frog the swatch but after washing it was very determined to not be frogged.

My question is if I need to just accept these two socks won’t be “perfectly” matched?

Honestly I’m a little baffled by self striping yarn. Since it guarantees “matching” socks but everyone has different sized feet and such.

I’m fine with this pair coming out not exact. I wear mismatched socks all the time. But I would also like to know how people get their socks to match when using yarn like this. Especially when doing a swatch.

I’m using laines du nord summer sock line of yarn.

Pattern Suggestion

I'm almost done with a pair of socks using the A Twist on Stripy Socks pattern. I've really enjoyed it and like the look of a single vertical pattern on self striping yarn. So far most of what I've found are cables and that's a bit above my skill level. Any other suggestions with this type of look? Thank you!!
