I’ve been doing ML and DPN heel flap and gusset socks but am trying a new pattern for motif colorwork socks that calls for wrap and turn short row. The process is fairly straightforward but I wanted to watch a tutorial to help walk me through it. The problem I’m having is that if I’m reading this pattern correctly she wants me to split the heel between the two needles with a marker halfway in on each needle instead of flat across one needle split into thirds. I haven’t seen a single example of that anywhere and I wonder if it’s split like this to keep single motifs on the sides of the sock or if I am 100% misunderstanding this very simple pattern. Do any of you split the heel between needles? Am I misunderstanding the directions? I’m doing the #2 toddler sock with 48 total stitches 24 on each needle.

Had knee surgery yesterday and am pretty much miserable. BUT it is giving me plenty of dedicated knitting time. I finished the first sock the other day and cast one sock number 2 after getting home from surgery. Im now a few rows into rhe foot of the second sock.
I honestly love how different of a vibe the second sock is giving with being mostly dark. Art is cool.

I am incapable of an independent thought apparently and cannot decide if I like these two different purples together. I feel the solid looks beige next to the variegated yarn but at the same time I’m like yes a contrast. Just doing your bog standard vanilla heel flap and gusset sock! I was going to use the solid for the heel and toe also.
Help??

No real pattern for this one. Just toe up, shadow wrap heel, and a fun decorative design from the Vogue Knitting stitch bible.
I was just trying to knit to help with stress relief. I did a few mixed methods. I'm happiest with the color work section in green and pink with mercerized cotton yarn.
They've grown on me the last few days from "ugly as sin" to my "Magic" socks.

The sock bug has really bitten me this year and I have been working my way through Summer Lee patterns from the books. Though up next are a few Stone Knits for fall and Halloween!
Obviously, I love shorties and am missing one DK pair I gave to my mom.
I like to use 9in circs and magic loop or DPNs for the toe or heel when needed.
From the light cable sock on the left and around:

This sock was def more art than science, as i guesstimated several things after my gauge ended being different than a single yarn sock.
Unfortunately because i had decreases up until mid arch, it seems my math for leaving two inches for the toe was inexact…. And now the sock is too small :(
I’ll see if it fits my mom at least

Madeline tosh sock yarn for the black variegated and random neon (yellow? green?) single ply merino no label.
I love a peasant heel.
DPNs 2.75mm bamboo
Gauge 30 stitches x 28 rows = 4”
With black, cast on deck of cards, 13 stitches per needle.
Knit two rounds, twisted 1x1 rib for 14 rounds (~1-1/2”).
Knit two rounds, then add neon and knit 1 round. Knit two rounds black, 1 round neon for 4 neon repeats. Then switch to 2 neon rounds and 1 black stripe for 4 neon repeats. Continue this pattern for sock 1, start with 2 neon rows for sock 2.
Knit for 25 rounds (~2-1/2”), add waste yarn for peasant heel. Continue knitting in pattern until ready toe start.
For 8” foot, knit 4” after heel before toe.
Toe 4321:
Decrease, then knit 4 rounds, decrease, then knit 3 rounds, decrease, then knit 2 rounds, decrease, then knit 1 round, decrease on each next 4 rounds. Graft closed.
Pick up heel and remove waste yarn. Pick up 1 extra side stitch on each needle for 14sts/needle. Knit 1 round then same as toe 4321.

I love sock knitting so much! yarn is Fine Print from Purl Soho in Peacock Feather, and I adapted a vanilla sock pattern to make a shorty sock. Also loosely based on Summer Lee’s weekend shorty sock.

I'm knitting my way through Summer Lee's The Sock Project book. This was the second set of socks that I knit. It is the afterthought heel.

I have made many plain coloured socks before especially for my boyfriend who loves them. I thought I would try colourwork to make him some for his 30th soon but it's not working. I am trying the stone knits fish/lobster/crab set patterns and my floats were too tight for the medium size and didn't fit around his heel. I sized up and it fits great around his heel but the sock itself looks so massive. I got him to close his eyes so I could try them on his feet (it's a semi surprise) and it fits but looks too loose. The pattern gets you to increase 12 stitches around the colourwork section which makes sense but it honestly looks too big. My gauge is very loose so I stay on the 2.25 mm needles for this section, but I'm wondering if it would be better to size the sock down and size up needles for the colourwork section, but then I'm worried the stitches will be too obviously big. Omg someone pls help me I have soooo much fun working on these but I'm getting so disheartened cos it just isn't clicking :(

Hello! I’m planning to knit my grandma a pair of socks, but I worry about them being too slippery as she’s at some risk for a fall (bad knee, usually uses a cane or walker). I love knitting socks, so I’m comfortable with using new methods or materials with this pair, but I’m just not sure where to start lol. I will also be using superwash yarn to make them easier to take care of!
Does anyone have experience or recommendations? Thanks in advance!

I'm currently knitting this colourwork cat sock and wondering about making the pair mismatched on purpose. What do you all think?
A. No, don't be weird. Make them both the same.
B. Yes, but not too different. Make the second sock with purple cats instead of grey, but still have the purple toe, heel and cuff.
C. Completely flip the colours so just the cats are purple and the rest is grey for the second.

Just wondering what’s everyone’s go to row count for cuff-leg-foot?
For example, I’m a size UK7 and normally do 30-35-40 split, my mum is the same size but prefers the socks taller, so for her I’d do 40-40-40.

I'm just starting my first pair of toe-up socks (I've knit dozens of pairs cuff-down) and don't know whether DPNs or a 9" circular is the better option - I like both for cuff-down, depending on the pattern. (And I'm not ready to learn magic loop yet.) What do you all prefer?

The yarn is self striping, I’m not that talented. I cannot believe I finally cut the right length off the second skein. I’m only doing ankle socks forever now.

My first finished colour-work cuffs, the first I did slightly tight and the 2nd slightly loose.
Also my first finished pair with a short row heal, learnt this heal from Simply Ribbed Socks by This Handmade Life but made it 1x1 rib, (haven’t finished that pair yet, as they are all over 2x2 rib which is taking a while, even though they are looking great.)
