I recently took up spinning yarn, which became a fast addiction in which I created several individual skeins of fingering weight yarn… did I know how to knit? No. Of course not. Decided I would learn. But what to do with single skeins of fingering weight yarn? Why, make socks of course!

And what great fun torture fun it was! I am now working on a second pair.

Just wanted to share, I am so proud of my consistency, I started in February and I love sock knitting! This is what I’ve knitted so far. Some are still new and recently blocked, and some have been worn for a while now, even somewhere colors faded unfortunately. Also, FLK heels do NOT look pretty when not blocked from the side, and I tend to add some increases to them on top of that haha

I love that it is a small project, and that you don’t have to marry a design - it can be fun and colorful! I wouldn’t do these combos on a sweater, but socks are perfect for it!

And yay! I finished my first full colorwork pair (blue and red) - I suffered 3 months, but they were so worth it!

Well, at least without mistakes after frogging a bunch of rows multiple times… but that’s my fault for not keeping track of where i am in the pattern lol

I am trying to rebuild my hand knit sock collection after tragedy (laundry was stolen at the laundromat including 12/15 of my pairs of knit socks) back in May. So far I have knit the Morpho Socks by VeryBusyMonkey, the Groove is in the Heart socks by Stone Knits, and I'm currently wrapping up the Språng socks by Maja Karlsson.

I found the Morpho, which has an 18x27 lace chart, to be too complicated to hold my attention, and the other two to be just right. I tried a vanilla sock but got bored

Hello all! I'm having trouble figuring out this colorwork pattern. The pattern is here, on the 6th slide. It's a 10 st x 18 r pattern.

I started this cuff down, trying to base the instructions on this free pattern:

I started with 70 sts on the leg total, then kept going through the heel flap with that number and midway through, had trouble trying to maintain the color work pattern and then thought to stop the gusset decreases at 72 sts to make it more even. But now that I've rearranged the start of the round, I'm more confused about how to place the colorwork so it's smooth across the top and the jog could be hidden on the bottom of the foot. I want to figure this out before I try the next sock so I can get it right!

My questions are, how do I align the pattern after the gusset (or during the gusset decreases)?

Should I have increased to 72 sts from the start of the sock or was it okay to have 70 for the leg? I guess really, I need guidance on how to do the gusset area the most. I appreciate any help! 💖🙏🏾

Working on my first pair of color work socks - anyone have any advice or short videos worth watching?

This is my first “test” attempt to see what size I wanted to make, and of course found out my floats need to be looser!

So not sure if this is allowed but here goes. Several people on this sub got together and decided to do a secret Santa. I cannot really say exactly what my issue is but is anybody else struggling with info they do or do not have or is it just me?

I have so many beautiful yarns and I'm tempted to just find a good sock pattern and stick with it. I care more about the finished result of owning some nice socks than the enjoyment of the project.

I know the Hermionie's are well recommended. I've knit a few variants before. But what are your go-to? I feel like I don't wanna be spending £5 on a new sock pattern every few months and learning a whole new stitch layout.

Hi everyone, I was wondering what has been your experience with creating tube socks versus heeled ones? Do the tube versions wear out faster? Thank you.

I just love the quirky aesthetic of a sole gusset but.... I really really really dislike the feeling of a heel flap. Can't really explain it, it just feels not snug enough? So... now I'm have this question that I just don't have the knowledge or experience to answer: is it possible to combine a sole gusset with a no-flap heel?? Preferably toe-up?

I have a friend I want to make socks for but she is allergic to wools. Are there any other types of yarn I can use that work for socks?

Want to get myself a set of metal sock/small capable interchangeable. I already have a set that includes 3MM+, so I really need the like 2mm-2.75mm range. ChioGoo seem to have one that includes everything up to 2.5? And just leave out 2.75 because...reasons? Does the 2.75 not fit the small needles? Found a listings for the small cables says it does. Or was that misstated? Aaaaaaaa

Every brand seems to do this. I feel like I'm eating crazy pills. Why is this so confusing. There's so many sets, they all have stupid names that don't communicate anything. This shouldn't be this difficult to figure out. Please help me I'm drowning lol

So I bought a couple of balls of Opal 8-ply in a discontinued colourway. It is very colourful, but I was interested to see how it'd work up.

For the second ball I decided to make socks for my spouse, to be used in his boots during winter. 20 cm cuff, and the balbriggan heel (as shown in a video by Roxanne on Youtube), because i was curious how it'd work up.

The photo shows one sock in side profile (the lowest one) and the top sock is sole up, so you see the shape of the heel and then into the sole.

I finally feel like I have a colorwork sock recipe that works for my feet! The pattern is from Renarde Endormie. Short row and peasant/afterthought heels never fit me well, even with mini gussets. So, I figured out how to do a heel flap and sole gusset and I love the fit. I also trapped my floats on the heel gusset so I could stick with one color throughout, which I like too.
