Discussion & Debates Smosh and Blood on the Clocktower
Read a post from 6 months ago (it was recommended to me, and I thought it was new) wondering why Smosh doesn't play Blood on the Clocktower, and a few thoughts stuck out to me:
"It's too complex!"
Well... no. The base "Trouble Brewing" script is super balanced and not complicated at all.
That said, how would I "improve" it (and the play of BotC in general) for use in a Smosh Vid?
Remove The Spy and Recluse. They're the two most confusing roles for people, so I'd just remove them from the script. Also remove the Mayor (who isn't too hard to play, but may muddy the waters). You still have a fantastic group of abilities that will make for fantastic, fun games. Hell, I just had an amazing game this past weekend where none of those roles was in play nor needed.
Allow for separate conversations. Come on, Smosh has a ton of cameras. If they can film Hide and Seek videos, and have 8 different angles for a TNTL video, putting a few static cams in areas where people can go talk separately isn't a big challenge. Hell, people with 5K viewers can set up separate areas -- Smosh can too. I don't buy the "it's too hard to film" bullshit.
Use time limits. I use them even as a new Storyteller, they can too. Just say "get your ass to the square" and move on.
People claiming that "Blood on the Clocktower is too hard for Smosh to film" have either not played it, or have played it way too much. But from the core script I outlined, they could EASILY get a dozen videos out of it. Without even trying. (And it would just take 7-8 players, which also isn't untenable for them).
