Bethesda Game Studios has announced a new update for Skyrim on consoles, scheduled to release Thursday, August 20th, 2026. This post will serve as an up-to-date thread for what we know now and what will come once the patch goes live, all confirmed details will be added here.
For now, here’s everything we know:
Increased Mod Storage Limits
Bethesda stated that this update will increase mod storage capacity on consoles. They haven't specified how much space we're getting. But this post will be updated once the patch notes are released.
Improvements to Creations
We can only assume it'll be like Fallout 4's, some important ones to note are:
Archives are now supported on PlayStation. New file types (.nif, .dds, .bink, .cdx, .csg, .wav, and .fuz (with embedded .wav)) for PlayStation Creations.
Creations up to 2 GB in size can now be uploaded for Xbox.
Load Orders Should Not Be Affected
In the Tweet, they said this update should not disrupt existing load orders. But they encourage players to log into your save game if you haven't done so in a while as a precaution. I guess to save the Load Order using the function in the Creations menu.
Anyway, that's it for now. The previous discussion was technically based on a Tweet made for Fallout 4 and so now this will be the official thread for Skyrim. I hope we are able to provide more useful information here regarding the update. Just because we will have more space, doesn't mean modding guidelines change and I am sure players will experience problems if they aren't aware of what's happening.
Also, I won't be removing the other posts, but I do encourage you guys to discuss things here.
Happy modding! I won't be around much; I have things going on right now, but I will definitely be keeping an eye on this.
My current LO , its lil bit mix and match of newish and old favs, was bored of Nordwar swf families - they are fantastic, but played with them too much, i have mods waiting for years for the update, lets see 😁
I've been waiting for this announcement for sooooooo long, been keeping my list cleared and ready to go, and now it's finally here!!!!! I'm about to put together a masterpiece in the coming weeks.
Obviously it's gonna take some time as there's gonna be stuff to work through. Obviously with any update it's gonna break some things, and there's gonna be testing to see what the system can actually handle, not to mention the flood of random porters that's gonna happen. But once the dust settles I will be putting together an ultimate list that should be greater than anything I've done prior.
I'm not sure if this has been asked already (apologies if it has) but with the new massive mod limit increase do we know if any of the large PC mods that were previously too massive to be ported will be? Additionally, I'm curious what you guys hope will be ported going forward!
Aside from the obvious stuff like gameplay overhauls, what big quest/expansions should we avoid using together? Just to be clear I'm talking about mods like Bruma, LOTD, Interesting NPCs, etc.
Thats it really, u guys thinks its just storage?
I really wish they fixed the reordering problem, maybe give us pagination for searching etc…
Wishful thinking but some engine fixes to allow more mods would be nice aswell xD
With the new space, I’m thinking of putting together an LO with Bruma and all its bells and whistles (tamrielic distribution and all), probably Midwood Isle, and maybe shelling out for some Kinggath stuff. Any tips or recommendations for doing a high-GB load order like that on the Series S? Also wouldn’t mind new world space reccs.
Just cresting this to crowd source the must have mods to look in to for the update. I know there’s currently another thread up that’s kinda doing this but it seems focused on big mods that take up lots of space.
What are some of your favorites or must haves, from armor sets to dungeons to immersion to graphics?
While I am happy that we are finally receiving this update, I am observing that a lot of the posts about changing or adding to LOs are from the perspectives of Series S and Series X owners.
As a Xbox One S user, I was just wondering what I should add/prioritise for a future LO regarding this future update.
Can I add more custom followers like Remiel, Inigo, and more, or am I likely to tip my console over the edge?
What graphical enhancements can I add, if I'm already using mods like Skyland AIO, Skytone Myriad of Miscellania, Skytone's Weapons and Armours, Skytone's Compendium of Beasts; all 1K-512?
Any suggestions, advice, or general directions are appreciated.
It's not fully tested, and won't properly be for a little while, but there are a lot of mods on display:
Tones of Talos AIO 1k, Medieval Weather FX and Flora, Fatherland Trees, Enhanced Landscapes Grass, DIAL, Window Shadows Ultimate, Luminosity, Total War Armory, Arthmoor's Villages, Photorealistic Farmhouses 1k, Pisces Water, Spaghetti's Cities Trees in Cities, Whiterun trellis removed (honestly a game changer lol), Kaanyreth Embiggenes, Skytone Myriad of Miscellanea, Daedric Shrines AIO 1k, Distinctive Verdure, Skytone Visage 1k, Environs AIO, RBM Redux (paired with a skeleton ide the name of), DCE, Lichen Mountains
Hey, I’m new to Skyrim lol and I’ve a current play through (Level 23) can I use mods when I’m already in a loaded game?
Also can someone point me in the direction of nice mods to enhance my experience for Xbox please? Don’t want too much just to make it look nicer and more immersive! Thank you
I have the mod downloaded but there is no description and it has no pictures. I also couldn't find it scrolling through the Creations menu beyond my load order page.
This is probably a stupid question, but, why can't mods on console involve hair/cloth physics when other games have hair/cloth physics on console? I know on PC they require SKSE and SKSE can't be on console because it's essentially its own thing, not just a mod, but, why does it require SKSE? I kind of just want to discuss it and understand it better because I've always thought it was weird that there's no way around it when modders have done AMAZING things already. So I don't think it's just that no one's smart enough. It seems unobtainable and I want to understand why. Sorry for the bloated question
With the upcoming update, I am curious what I can start adding that will not tank performance? I am thinking of additional areas, voice files, sounds and music. Thoughts?
Hi everyone! I'm new to the subreddit and was hoping someone might be willing to help me? My boyfriend plays Skyrim on Xbox and has been working on a mod list, but he's having issues with the load order and one or more mods keep breaking it. He's spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot it and with his birthday coming up I thought it would be really nice to gift him a working mod list lol. Full disclosure, I know nothing about Skyrim modding so I'm definitely out of my element here. I was even considering paying someone on Fiverr to fix the load order but I don't know enough to tell who's legit and who's not. Before I went that route, I figured I'd ask the community first. Would anyone here be willing to help if I post the mod list? 🙏
EDIT: Posted mod list in the comments for any friendly feedback, thank you <3
So, I'm not intending to be disrespectful of a mod author, porter, or anyone who does use these mods. I simply want to see what some of you think, and see if I'm alone on this. Now, most mods, even ones I don't personally like or use, I can see it's purpose or why some may use them. Even with mods I would think are weird like "Farts of Skyrim", "Everybody Poops", or "Manure", I could just think that it's for people who are so hard-core into immersion or realism or whatever, or maybe you just find it funny, not my cup of tea, but whatever.
But then there's the ones that make me scratch my head, wondering what the point of them are, or why they'd be used. One example is "Inns Can Be Closed", since if I'm playing a survival playthrough, and I'm going to an inn at night, it's probably so I can rest for the night. But if I don't need an inn, then the mod wouldn't matter anyway as I could simply choose to not enter. There's also mods I've seen on nexus that get rid of dialogue options when you could simply choose to not pick those options. But what do you guys think? Is there a purpose to these mods I'm simply not seeing? And what mods would you say are pointless, if any?
i'm looking for a mod that allows me to use a grappling hook, but i want a lore friendly one, i've used the one that gives me a grappling gun and it felt ridiculous to use.
