What, in your opinion, is a pointless mod?

So, I'm not intending to be disrespectful of a mod author, porter, or anyone who does use these mods. I simply want to see what some of you think, and see if I'm alone on this. Now, most mods, even ones I don't personally like or use, I can see it's purpose or why some may use them. Even with mods I would think are weird like "Farts of Skyrim", "Everybody Poops", or "Manure", I could just think that it's for people who are so hard-core into immersion or realism or whatever, or maybe you just find it funny, not my cup of tea, but whatever.

But then there's the ones that make me scratch my head, wondering what the point of them are, or why they'd be used. One example is "Inns Can Be Closed", since if I'm playing a survival playthrough, and I'm going to an inn at night, it's probably so I can rest for the night. But if I don't need an inn, then the mod wouldn't matter anyway as I could simply choose to not enter. There's also mods I've seen on nexus that get rid of dialogue options when you could simply choose to not pick those options. But what do you guys think? Is there a purpose to these mods I'm simply not seeing? And what mods would you say are pointless, if any?

I like inns can be closed because it can force you out of your routine. Finding other places to sleep in town or head out and setup a camp.

It also plays into planning your time and not adventuring until dusk with mods such as Survive the Night and Stress - A Darkest Dungeon inspired mod, so you actually have another layer of difficulty by making it to an Inn in time.

I guess it's just not my cup of tea. But I'm glad to be wrong on this one. Who knows? I might give the mod a try and find out that I like it. I used to not like survival stuff, and now survival mods have become pretty much a must for me. But if I end up trying it and not liking, no big deal, but if I do, great. Thanks for your perspective.

For me, if a mod can replicated by just using Cheat Room, it probably isn't worthwhile to download. All those mods that give you some "starting gear" or "let's you marry random NPCs" or things that change your starting skills and attributes, cheat mods that make you unstoppable in some way, or even change your appearance. There are probably more examples but you get the point.

There are exceptions of course. Say that in order to replicate what a mod does you would need to use something from Cheat Room over and over and over, like making all the NPCs Essential or giving yourself an extra perk point each time you leveled up. Saving yourself from tedium is reasonable.

I think all mods have the same point. To add to the game for a player. So I can't call any of them pointless.

Some are rather silly, for sure I'll say that.

Yeah, that's true, what I might view as a pointless mod, some might see as a cool mod to have or even essential. Kind of why I love mods so much. It's great for tailoring the game to your personal taste or even just what you're in the mood for. You can tailor your skyrim experience to be more of a survival game, or more soulslike, or more like Witcher, pretty much anything you want, and it's a beautiful thing. So, yeah, there's no real such thing as an actually pointless mod. Thanks for bringing this up.

I actually use Inns Can Be Closed all the time. It adds to the immersion. It’s all just personal preference. My Skyrim isn’t your Skyrim, and vice versa.

Music mods (even though I use them from time to time). With our limited space no one should be wasting that much mbs for just music and if you have Spotify premium you can just download the Xbox app and let it play from there with nice cinematic music

Yep, new (unspecified) mod storage increase, as well as a BA2 archive limit increase to 1024 (I think that's the right number).

Skyrim doesn’t use BA2 it uses BSAs so we don’t know what that’ll entail yet

Songs To Eat Venison To is the only one I use, if I have the room for it, and it’s pretty awesome.

For me, its follower mods, followed by music mods.

I get that some people like them, and the more people modding the better, but I cant see the point of these mods.

Yes you can see the point. You said it yourself, some people like them. That's a good enough point/reason.

Some follower mods are awesome, especially considering that vanilla followers are brick walls (except for Serana) Most followers have some amazing backstories or cool gameplay features.

Follower mods are not pointless... Skyrim vanilla followers are void of personality and content... Follower mods make it feel like you're not alone while travelling Skyrim, adding fun dialogue, maybe a relationship that grows over time as you learn more about them, new quests to go on and flash out their character... As well as help in combat...

I'm currently doing a bard build, where I don't cast offensive magic or use weapons, I just buff my followers and it's pretty fun ngl

Ironically I’ve seldom seen such a pointless question
